She stood outside the door wondering is she should go
through with it, knock. She stared at the name on the
door ‘Angel Investigations’. This was where all her
traveling had lead her, to this door and this moment
but she was petrified. Finding the vampire with a
soul had been easy once she had learned he had a soul,
Drusilla had neglected to mention that about him in
all her rants but Dru had neglected to tell her a lot
of things. The thought of her sire sent a shiver down
her back but she ignored it, Drusilla had had enough
thought for now. Pushing her memories from her mind,
she knocked quietly.
"Angel will help me, I hope." She thought. "Just
don’t stack me or all this will be pointless."
There was no answer to her over cautious knock so she
forced herself to knock again. This time her knock
was answered by a cheery brunette opening the door.
"Hi," she greeted. "Welcome to Angel Investigations,
we help the hopeless." She opened the door wide to
reveal a large waiting room with a desk. The woman
hesitated. "Please, come in." the brunette smiled.
The vampire slowly entered the office behind the girl
who went to sit behind her desk. The girl’s eagerness
was easily picked up by the vampire.
"The business mustn’t be doing all that well." The
vampire thought. "Why else would this girl be
practically drooling on me?"
"By the way, my name is Cordelia. What can we do for
you?" She was still grinning ear to ear and the
vampire was, if anything, amused with the brunette.
"I am here to see the vampire with a soul, Angel."
The woman’s delicate voice crooned.
"Oh," Cordelia was surprised the woman knew of Angel.
"Do you know Angel?" Cordelia was suddenly very
curious.
The vampire smiled shyly, "I know of him, but he does
not know me."
Suddenly Cordelia was nervous. This was not a woman
sitting in front of her. She stood. "I’ll just go
and get Angel for you then." Her fear suddenly
apparent to the vampire, the girl ran into the inner
office.
The vampire’s nervousness was also mounting, it was
almost time to meet him, Angel, the sire of her sire.
It was a little unnerving, Angel technically owned her
now that Drusilla was gone.
Cordelia opened the downstairs door to find Angel
sitting on the couch immersed in a book. He was
looking for a blue demon he had seen a few nights
earlier to no avail.
Cordelia’s voice cut into his thoughts. "There is
someone upstairs wanting to see you."
Angel was a little surprised at Cordy’s nervousness.
"What’s wrong?"
"I think she’s a vampire." She blurted out.
"Really?" This disturbed Angel a little, why would a
vampire seek him out? He was suddenly very curious
about the woman waiting upstairs.
He climbed the stairs to his office and peered through
the blinds carefully. The creature in the outer
office was definitely a vampire, but there was also
something else, familiar almost. He watched her for a
minute trying to figure out what it was then it hit
him, she had Drusilla’s smell all over her, his blood
ran through her veins, she was Dru’s childe. He
watched her for a second more, she was beautiful, pale
but still radiant. She had long auburn almost rusty
hair, and deep hazel eyes. He felt very drawn to her.

Cordelia stood behind him, she saw the look on his
face and realized what it meant. It was the same look
he had whenever he would look at Buffy, the look
worried Cordy. All she needed was Angelus showing up,
she hated Angelus.
"Well is she?" Cordelia asked not hiding her worry.
"Yes." Angel practically had to force the word out.
"Go downstairs, I’ll deal with her."
Cordelia didn’t need to be told twice, she left him in
the office to go and research downstairs. Her worry
began to dissipate, Angel would stack the vampire and
then nothing would happen. No Angelus, no problems.
Angel walked to the door and opened it. She had felt
him watching her and was just waiting for him to come
out. She took a deep breath and inhaled his scent
before looking at him. She felt her whole body react,
his blood flowed threw her body and with him so close
it was on fire. She felt she had know him forever, he
had been with her forever without even seeing him.
She turned then and caught his eyes with hers. She
was trapped. He was angelic.
>From the moment their eyes met Angel knew she was not
merely a demon, there was something more, an innocence
he had never seen in the eyes of any vampire before.
He was speechless at the site of her.
"Hello." She barely whispered but it was enough to
break the silence that was threatening to drowned
them.
"Who are you?" He was still reeling from the site of
her.
"My name is Katrina." She paused. "I have been
looking for you for a long time Angel."
The sound of his name sent shivers threw him. "Why?"
He had to know.
"I am Drusilla’s final childe. She made me to replace
something she called Spike." A single tear slipped
and rolled down her face, she was so happy to see him
and she didn’t know why. "I need your help, I don’t
know what I am. Will you please tell me Angel?"
He was so beautiful, she couldn’t understand why
Drusilla had spoken so poorly of him or how she could
bare to be away from him. Katrina knew he was all she
had left, she needed him and part of her wanted him.
He looked into her mesmerizing eyes again, he was
sinking into them. He pitied her, Drusilla couldn’t
have been a wonderful sire, and this creature before
him was not anything normal as far as vampires went.
She radiated. He wanted to help her, ease her pain
but he didn’t know how, he didn’t know what she was
either. All he knew for sure in that moment was that
he could not let her leave until he found out.

It had been a week and she felt safe for the first
time in her life as a vampire. Angel had been
wonderful to her, he had let her stay with him under
his office. There had been a lot of tension between
them but it was still nice for her to be in his
company. He had given her piles of books to read
about vampires and the history of himself which
included Drusilla and the vampire Spike. She had
learned a lot in that week, Dru had neglected to tell
her so much. Katrina was also finding herself
fascinated by the vampire Spike, he was a ruthless
killer yet a strong protector and love to Dru.
Katrina didn’t understand how or why the two would
have split company but she intended to find Spike
next, maybe Angel knew where he was.
Angel hadn’t asked her anything about her past yet, in
truth Katrina didn’t remember her human life at all
and she was glad Angel hadn’t pushed her to tell him
about where Drusilla was or how she had escaped her.
She wasn’t ready to tell him yet, she knew she would
have to soon but not yet.
He had been watching her for days reading and
sleeping. She was a wonder to him and he was very
drawn to her. He noted that she had not hunted while
with him and that when she did fed from the blood he
had in the fridge she didn’t look to enjoy it too
much. She had nightmare that were telling him a lot
of what he was sure she didn’t want to answer. She
would talk and scream about Drusilla and things she
was doing. Angel felt so much compassion for her,
Drusilla could be cruel when she wanted to be and it
appeared to him that Dru took out a lot on poor
Katrina. Wesley was trying to find any clue as to
what else Katrina was other than the obvious vampire,
Angel was sure she was also something else. He didn’t
think she had a soul but there was something else
about her that he could not understand yet. It was
hard and pointless for Wesley, the only vampire that
was unusual in history seemed to be Angel because of
his soul.
Cordelia was worried about Angel, his growing
interest in the female vampire was more than unnerving
for her. All Cordy could do was hope that Angel had
enough restraint to not pursue any felling he was
having for her. It was more than apparent to Cordy
that Angel was quickly falling in love with Katrina.
Whenever she was near him, he went from brooding to
giddy, it was unnatural for Angel to act giddy in
Cordelia’s mind. He was downstairs watching her right
now.
"Hello Angel." Katrina had felt his eyes on here the
moment he looked at her but had waited, he watched he
a lot and she liked his attention. She was getting to
the point where she could sense him anywhere in the
building.
He stepped out of the shadows. "Discover anything
interesting today?" He smiled.
"Not really. I think I need to find someone before
all the questions I have are answered." She
whispered.
"Who?" he was curious and hoped she would not be
leaving to soon. He still wanted to find out her
secrets and he did like her company.
"Spike. Drusilla made me to replace him. I have read
all about their relationship and I need o know why he
left her or she left him. I want to meet him,
horrible or not, it is something I need to do." She
couldn’t look him in the eyes for she would stay here
with him forever if she did.
He stood. "I will make a few calls and find out if he
is still in Sunnydale." His voice had a hint of
disappointment. Maybe once she met Spike she would
come back to him.
"Thank you." She smiled but he was already halfway up
to his office.
She settled back to reading the book in front of her
when she heard a large crash from the upstairs. In
seconds Katrina was on her feet and up to the inner
office. Angel was in the outer office struggling with
a large blue demon and it was winning. Cordelia was
about to hit the demon with an ax when it hit her and
sent her across the room. Katrina didn’t hesitate,
she rushed across the room and kicked the demon hard
in the stomach. It released it’s hold on Angel and
began to attack her, Katrina blocked the demon’s
efforts to hit her. She then hit it several times in
the head and kicked it to the floor. She then grabbed
the discarded ax Cordelia had had and sliced into the
demons midsection. It screamed and pointed at her.
"You will destroy the balance." It said, surprising
Angel because it was speaking English.
Katrina ignored it’s words and swung the ax
decapitating in. The body fell to the floor and
Katrina dropped the ax. She didn’t believe she had
just killed a demon. Angel stood, he didn’t believe
what he had just seen, she had moved with the strength
and agility of a slayer. That demon had almost killed
him. He looked at Katrina, she was shacking with a
look of shock on her face. Without thinking Angel
stepped over the dead demon and pulled her into his
strong arms. They stood there, locked in an embrace
until her shacking subsided then he released her to
check on Cordy.

Angel sat alone on the rooftop of his building. It
was a clear night and the stars were shining. For
some reason it reminded him of Buffy. He missed her,
but for now he couldn’t get the image of Katrina
killing the demon out of his head. She had moved with
the power and agility he had only even seen a slayer
weld. She had saved his life today. She was amazing.
The fight itself was not what was bothering him, it
was what the demon had said to her before she killed
it. "You will destroy the balance." It had said.
Angel didn’t know what it meant but he didn’t like it.
He had Wesley searching every book in the office for
the demon but had not yet found it, Cordelia couldn’t
even find it on the Internet. Angel was tempted to
call Giles but then he would have to ask about Spike
and he really wanted to stall Katrina’s mission to
find his bleach blond childe.
His mind began to wonder. She couldn’t be a slayer
yet, Faith and Buffy were still very alive, but what
if she was a slayer to be, the next in line? As far
as Angel knew all slayers were killed, not changed.
They were too much of a threat to vampires to leave
alive and too strong to force them to drink the
infected blood of the undead. Angel also knew that
there was no slayer in history that had been changed
into a vampire. It gave him an idea, he stood and
left the night into the building. He found Wesley and
Cordelia sitting in the outer office looking through
books for the third time trying to find the demon that
had attacked them today. They were immersed in their
reading when he entered.
"Wesley," Angel tried to draw his friend’s attention
from the book.
"Yes Angel?" He was still glued to the book.
"I need to know if you can still get information from
the Watcher’s Council." Angel stated a little louder.
This got Wesley’s attention "What for?" he was
wondering what his vampire employer was thinking.
"I need to know who the next slayer to be summoned was
going to be. Can you find out for me?" Angel wasn’t
going to give him an inch yet.
"I’ll try to Angel but such information is usually
guarded under lock and key at the Council. It will be
difficult to attain." Wesley was now very curious as
to Angel’s inquiry.
"Why do you want to know that Angel?" Cordelia asked
before Wesley had the chance. "This wouldn’t have
anything to do with Miss Queen-of-the-dead downstairs
would it?"
Angel didn’t really want to discuss Katrina with them,
he knew the vampire made both of them nervous to the
point they both were wearing crosses around the office
and Cordelia had a bottle of holy water in her desk.
Wesley had wanted Angel to stack Katrina, he thought
it better to be safe than sorry. Angel realized they
couldn’t really understand why he was helping her but
he really couldn’t explain it himself. He knew she
was not evil in the vampire sense of the term. She
had also saved him and that made his trust for her
even stronger. He knew she was special and there was
no time like the present to tell them his theory as to
why.
"There has never been a slayer in history to be turned
into a vampire. Vampire would just kill them if the
opportunity presented itself." He began. "I believe
that Katrina was destined to be the next slayer but
never had the chance to. Drusilla changed her before
she was summoned."
Wesley was intrigued but had a few thoughts on the
subject himself. "I see, because of her destiny to
fight evil she lost all memories of her human life
when she became a vampire. It is a safety for the
Council so that the dark side doesn’t gain any of
their secrets." He continued. "It makes perfect
sense. As you said, you have never seen a vampire
kill like she did today. Perhaps her slayer powers
were unleashed when she was changed accidentally."
"There is something else about her too." Angel said.

"What is that?" Wesley inquired.
"I don’t think she enjoys killing to fed. She is all
to eager to fed from the blood downstairs than go out
and hunt. She hasn’t hunted since she arrived here.
If she is the next slayer it may explain her
consciousness and hesitation to kill."
"A vampire slayer. Remarkable, she could be a very
lethal ally." Wesley declared.
Angel left them with their thoughts, he wanted to see
how Katrina was, she had been very shaken after
killing the demon. He found her asleep on the couch
with a book in her lap. Angel picked up the book, it
was one telling about Drusilla and Spike after he had
been cursed with a soul. He placed it on the coffee
table and sat down on it. He unconsciously began to
run his fingers through her long hair, it was so soft
to touch. His mind began to wonder as he sat in front
of her sleeping form. He thought of Drusilla, if she
was dead than according to vampire law Katrina
belonged to him. The thought made a smile dance
across his face for a second. He hadn’t had the
company of another vampire for a very long time.
Drusilla had good taste, he would give her that.
She watched him as his face played the emotions of his
thoughts. He hadn’t noticed her awakening and was
still stroking her hair. He was so careful and
gentle, she wanted him to take her into his arms again
as he had today but knew it wasn’t a good idea. She
had wanted his touch from the first moment she had
seen him but Cordelia had told her the real curse of
Angel’s soul. He could never have a woman for than
his delicate soul would be lost and he would again be
Angelus. She admired Angel, even with all the history
of horror he invoked in the world as Angelus, Angelus
was not the man before her. He was doing all of this
for a redemption that he never caused the pain for.

She started to lean into his touch without thinking.
The pressure on his hand brought Angel back to
reality. He quickly pulled away from her, he was
attracted to her but he had had enough pain from love.
Buffy flashed threw his mind.
"Hi." She purred.
"Hi." His voice caught in his throat.
She placed her hand on his but he pulled away.
"I have a surprise for you." He stood and took both
her hands in his lifting her from the couch.
"A surprise?" She couldn’t help but be curious.
He lead her to the roof. The view was magnificent.
The city stretched before them in a twinkling
splendor. Katrina was breathless, it was truly
beautiful. She turned to Angel, he was watching her
expression as she gazed at his city. She laughed and
began to twirl around in circles, her dress and hair
flying out around her. She was happy for the first
time in ages.
Angel smiled, he thought she would enjoy the view but
didn’t realize something so simple would make her so
happy. He watched her stop spinning and walk out of
his line of sight. He waited and suddenly the air was
filled with music. Katrina reappeared carrying a
small radio long forgotten by it’s owner. She put it
on the ground and walked towards him.
"Dance with me Angel?" She asked shyly.
He found her impossible to resist, the moonlight made
her look so inviting. He took her hand and they began
to dance to the soft melody from the radio. The song
ended and another began but the pair of vampires
didn’t notice. Each was lost in their own thoughts
when suddenly their eyes met and locked. Their bodies
slowly closed the gap between them and the music was
long forgotten. Angel moved his hands around
Katrina’s back as she wrapped hers around his neck.
Their eyes never left each others. He breathed her
in, she smelled so good. The distance between their
lips slowly vanished. They both closed their eyes in
anticipation.
"Angel," Cordelia’s voice broke the spell the
vampires were casting on each other. "There is an
important client on the phone for you."
Cordy watched the two figures separate.
"That was too close." Cordy thought as she waited for
Angel to come to get the phone.
