"What?" Several voices spoke at once.
Spike ignored them, lost in his memories.
"Explain. Please?" Buffy said, seeing the look in the vampire's eyes.
She had not expected him to answer the way he had. She wanted to know what Damien had to do with Dru.
Spike spoke softly, emotion filling his voice as he remembered, "Damien chose her as one of his playthings."
"Huh?" Cordelia said.
Spike looked towards Angel. "Why don't you ask Poof here about Damien's playthings. He had experience in that field."
Angel frowned. He saw them turn to him and he knew he had to answer.
"Damien has a history of choosing a woman to be his toy so to speak. It can be anyone that strikes his fancy. Human, vampire, witch, demon...It doesn't matter. He chooses a woman, then tortures her until she breaks. After that, he discards her and moves on to another one. He is a sadistic bastard."
Buffy felt disgusted at the portrait he had painted of Damien. "What did Spike mean that you had experience in that field?"
Angel looked away, "After he chooses his next human toy, he waits. Stalks them. Makes sure they are good and scared before he takes them. If it is a demon or such, he doesn't care about playing that game. There is no challenge. One time, Angelus interfered and fed on one of Damien's intended victims. He was very upset that his game had been halted. Damien is a control freak. He wants everything to work his way." Angel let his voice trail off. He didn't want to elaborate on that time of his past.
"What happened?" Xander asked. Angel ignored the question.
Spike snickered. "Not so fun having to answer all the questions is it Daddy?"
"Angel?" Buffy asked.
"Damien found out who had killed the girl. He then made a pact with some Rom that he knew...." Angel looked at them. "That is the true reason I was cursed. It was the worst torture that Damien could think of. He knew Angelus's past...knew what I would have to live with...just because I snacked on one of his numerous toys."
"You're serious?"
"Deadly." Spike spoke up. "Warned you pet. Damien is truly horrific. He loves to inflict pain. He gets off on screams and fear. He has always been a psychotic bastard."
"Tell me about Dru." Buffy asked, wanting to know what she was going to have to face.
Spike's eyes took on a faraway look. "He got her in July, right after we left this damn place. I assume her innocence attracted him. We were in New York. She was mad at me still over the whole bloody sire thing. She went hunting alone. She never returned. I tracked her. Took me more than a month before finding her..."
"She lasted a month with Damien?" Angel said, surprised.
Most only lasted a week. Two weeks tops. Damien had perfected the art of torture. He was crueler than anything Angelus could ever have imagined. "Shocking huh?" Spike said, smiling slightly. "She made it. I was able to get her out, but she'd been with him for five months before I had an opportunity. I didn't understand then why he hadn't killed her....." his voice trailed off. "Anyway, I got her out. It was too late. She was dying. She left me not two days after her escape." He felt the tears in his eyes as he remembered his Princess. "Then and there I vowed to destroy Damien, even if it was the last thing I did."
"How did you and Willow hook up?" Xander asked.
"Met up with her. Feel in love, decided to take care of her....watch out for her. She decided to help me kill Damien. End of story." Spike said shortly.
"If he is so evil and all, why do you think you can kill him?" Cordelia asked.
"I doubt that I can. But, for Dru, I have to try." Spike said, staring at the girl. "Enough questions. I'm going to get Willow. She's probably worried. We'll be back." He said as he turned and left, memories still occupying his mind.
"I have a really bad feeling about this." Buffy said, feeling scared for the first time in years.
