Spike was bored. He glanced at the time and finally made a decision. He wanted to see her. It had felt like forever, but the truth was they never got to know each other. Making his way up to her room, he saw her bedroom door open and glanced inside, leaning against the doorframe.

She wasn't doing anything exciting. Just putting away her clothes and other things that she had brought with her. He saw her laptop and a few magic books. His roaming eyes moved back to her form. She seemed so much older than she really was. 'Guess the Hellmouth will do that to you.' Her body moved gracefully as her vibrant red hair seemed to float around her face. Suddenly he froze when he saw her staring at him.

"Um.hi. How long have you been there?"

"A bit. Thought you might want some company. Actually I kinda wanted some company."

"Sure."

"Wanna watch the telle?"

"Anything good on?

"I guess we'll find out."

~~~*~~~
They had made it halfway through the program they were watching when Willow finally turned to him. Taking a sip of her soft drink, she took a deep breath. "You can ask about her, you know."
Spike pulled his eyes away from the television. Truth was he hadn't been watching it; he just didn't want to be alone. "About who, luv?"
Willow rolled her eyes. "About who? About Buffy, Spike."
"Why would I want to know about Buffy?"
"You don't? Then why are we spending time together?" The second she said it, she felt guilty. The look on his face almost brought tears to her face.
His undead heart broke on the inside. "I kinda thought you wanted to. Spend time with me, that is. Apparently not, though."
"Spike I didn't mean it like that. It's just.the only time you ever even talked to us was when it concerned her. I just thought."
"You thought wrong," he said coldly. "If you thought I was being nice to you to get information out of you, then why did you do the whole scene with Peaches?"
"Huh?"
"Defending me to my grand-sire."
"What I said was true. He's stuck on who you were, not are. Besides it's about time someone stood up for you," she mumbled. Willow picked the remote up off the table and flipped the television off. "I don't understand."
"Understand what?"
"You loved her. You loved Buffy!"
"Did I? Was it love, pet? Love isn't supposed to be like that. Chip messed me up good, I guess. Couldn't kill her but I had to have her." A long pause passed between the two of them before he spoke again. "As a human I was a lot like you, Red. I was full of innocence and purity. It was the reason why Dru was drawn to me. The reason she turned me. And it was the reason why Angelus tried to destroy me. To mold me until I was what he was, a pure monster. Funny thing is a part of my humanity stayed with me I guess."
"The love and devotion and caring part?"
"Yeah. As a human, I was passionate about things. I cared about things. About my mum and my.my."
"Writing?" she whispered.
"How did you know about that?"
"Maybe that's a different conversation for a different day?"
"Right then. Anyway, there was and still is a passion that stirs inside of me. A passion she didn't have herself. A passion she couldn't match. If I did love her, which I don't think I really did, the feeling is gone now."
Willow reached for something to say. She assumed that Buffy was the reason he was being nice to her. To find out it wasn't, was a bit of a surprise. "I know we were never real friends or anything like that, but." Willow looked everywhere except at Spike. "But I missed you," she said softly.
Spike couldn't tear his eyes away from her. 'She missed him?' Before he could say anything she decided to speak up.
'I should have never told him anything. He's all quiet now and that's only making me more nervous. And why am I nervous? This is Spike!' "Maybe we should turn the TV back on?"
"Yeah." As Willow handed him the controller, their fingers brushed gently against each other. And in that moment it was the most comfortable gesture in the world. Spike flipped the program back on and they continued to watch in silence.
~~~*~~~

The program ended and Spike leaned back into the sofa. "So pet, what did you think about that?" Hearing silence, he looked over at her. She was asleep. He stood up and stood in front of her. Spike watched her for a moment. Her eyes shut. Her breathing even. He reached out and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. "Luv," he whispered. "Luv, the program is over."

"Mmhm," she mumbled. "Sleepy time."

He gave her a smile. Spike placed his arms under her body and proceeded to pick her up and take her to her room. He didn't want to leave her on the couch. The smile became wider as she rested her face against his neck. "I missed you too," he whispered, carrying her to her room.
