The next evening Spike and Willow arrived at Giles’ flat. Buffy, Xander, and Anya had already been there for over an hour and talked about what had happened the day before. Buffy had apologized to Xander but wasn’t sure if it would help. As the door opened Buffy jumped to greet Spike and Willow.
“Hi, guys.” She said.
“Buffy.” Willow said and went to greet the others.
“Slayer.” Spike greeted as he flopped into a chair in the corner.
Buffy sighed knowing that this was going to be hard. Giles quietly watched from the kitchen. Finally, Buffy decided to give talking another shot.
“Will, can I talk to you please?” Buffy asked.
“Sure, we can go into the court yard. Spike can see us from the window.” Willow said, without having to hear Spike’s protest.
Spike knew what she meant so he said nothing.
Outside
“What did you want, Buffy?” Willow asked.
“I wanted to apologize for hitting you yesterday.” Buffy said.
“I wanted to apologize too, for the stuff I said about Angel yesterday. It was wrong. I wasn’t even thinking. I’m sorry. I’m not even sure the stuff I said was true.” Willow babbled.
“So, what happens now?” the slayer asked.
“Spike and I are moving to L.A. soon.” Willow answered shyly.
“WHAT? WHY?” Buffy shouted loud enough for everyone in Giles’ building to hear, and bringing everyone in Giles’ out into the doorway.
Buffy continued to yell at Willow while the others listened from behind her.
“You can’t leave with him. He’s dangerous. L.A., running isn’t like you, Will. Oz leaves you and you lose your mind, is that it?” She shouted.
The last comment finally broke all of them out of there state of shock, and broke the remaining hope Willow had been holding on to that Buffy would get over this. The others rushed to Willow’s side as she collapsed in tears. Xander lashed out and punched Buffy, before anyone could react, including the slayer knocking her out.
Spike was stunned, he didn’t know about what had happened the day before with Xander and Buffy, and seeing him hit the slayer gave Spike new respect for Chubs. His arms were by then the only thing holding Willow up as she sobbed her broken heart out.
Giles looked at the scene before him and cringed, knowing that Xander was only protecting Willow was the only thing keeping him from yelling at the boy. Buffy had crossed a line that he knew she could never take back, especially with that Oz comment. He’d heard everything that she’s said to Willow since they’d opened the door, and knew Buffy was lucky that Spike’s chip was still working. Picking up her limp body he carried her into his flat and the others followed, Spike carrying Willow and Xander holding Anya close.
Once the door was closed Xander began to talk, almost babbling like Willow.
“Anya and I are leaving Sunnydale, moving. I’ve nearly killed Buffy twice in the last two days. I don’t think it’s safe for us to stay here right now.” Xander explained.
“Twice, mate? You really need to explain that.” Spike said as he rubbed Willow’s back. She was finally calming down.
“Spike and I were going to leave for L.A. in a few days, but I think we should leave now. She obviously is not going to let this go. I don’t want to be here when she wakes up.” Willow said.
Out of no where, Anya finally spoke up, “If I still had my powers, I’d…” The rest of her comment was muffled by Xander’s hand.
Giles hugged Willow, Xander and Anya his children, were leaving because of the actions of one thoughtless person. He shook Spike’s hand out of respect, tonight he’d shown great respect and love for Willow by behaving unlike his normal self and being quite.
Goodbyes were shared and addresses were exchanged all while Buffy was passed out on Giles’ sofa.
An hour before dawn
In L.A.
Spike’s blacked out window Desoto pulled up in front of Angel Investigations. Looking over at Willow, he smiled at the dreamy expression on her face as she slept. Not having the heart to wake his love, he carried her into the offices.
When the door opened to the outer offices, Angel came out to greet who ever it was reading a file. Looking up he spotted Spike setting Willow down on the office couch, obviously Willow was sleeping quite well not to have waken.
“What are you doing here?” Angel asked Spike in a whispered voice.
“Well, Peaches, it’s like this.” Spike said explaining to Angel what had happened over the last few days after Angel had spotted the bruises on Willow’s face.
All the while Willow was fast asleep on Spike’s lap and he was running his fingers through her hair, while she dreamed of what had lead to their early arrival in L.A.
