        Spike sat on the sofa in the Watcher's house, participating
in yet another Scooby Gang research party. He had joined awhile ago,

        He didn't remember when it happened but he had fallen in love
with her. She deserved better than what she'd been given. The dog
used her shamelessly, the tossed her aside once he met that other
bitch. Her parents were always away, never considering the daughter
they were leaving alone. Her friends weren't much help. They didn't
appreciate all that she gave them. They could never appreciate her as
much as he did.

        He was the one who listened to her pour her heart out over
the wolf and the way she blamed herself for him leaving. He would sit
on her balcony at night and hear her cry, wishing she wasn't so alone
and thinking no one cared about her. If only she knew how much he
loved her.

        She was the only thing that kept him from putting a stake in
his unbeating heart. She treated him like a person, not an impotent
demon. She had helped him get over Dru and made him laugh with her
constant rambling. She was his reason for living.

        Willow excused herself from the group and walked out the
door. the vampire grabbed his duster and headed out after her. He
found her just a few blocks away from the campus.
        "Want some company?" He asked.
         Willow turned around to face him and gave him a sad smile.
"Sure."
        If it could have, his undead heart would have skipped a beat.
"You know pet, you shouldn't be walking out here alone at night. It's
not safe."
        "I know, but I just wanted to get away from everything."
Willow lowered her head as the tears started to form.
        Spike stopped their stroll, concern written all over his
face. "Are you all right, luv?"
        The redhead looked up, tears running down her face. "No, not
really."
        Spike led her over to one of the benches on campus. He wiped
the tears away with his thumb. "What's wrong, pet?"
        "Oz came back."

        "He said he was sorry about everything that happened and
asked me to take him back." Willow sobbed.
        "What did you say?" The platinum blonde wondered knowing that
if she said yes it would break his heart.
        "I said no." She replied, softly.
Spike looked at her, confused. "Why, pet?"
        Willow looked him right in the eye, icy blue meeting sad
green. "Because I'm in love with someone else."
        "Who?"
        "You." Willow jumped off the bench and ran into her dorm,
leaving a stunned vampire alone with his thoughts, under the stars.
