Chapter 5

Buffy ran and ran, she really didn't know why or where. She just ran until her legs finally gave out on her, she slowly stopped next to a nearby bench and noticed she was barefoot and that her hair was still wet. She shivered from the cold breeze and felt Goosebumps covering her exposed skin.

But none of that really mattered 'cause there was only one thought on her mind

What the hell just happened?

She kissed Spike, on the lips. There was tongue action even. It was Spike, and the way he looked at her! He never looked at her like that before. Why did she kiss Spike?

She sat on the bench and didn't know what to do. She couldn't go back. She couldn't handle Spike’s reaction right now….no it was too much….

After 15 minutes of sitting and gazing at the deserted campus, Buffy decided she should go back and face the music.

Maybe he left…she hoped

She got to her dorm and opened the door slowly, carefully glancing inside

Spike wasn't there.

Buffy walked into the room feeling a bit disappointed?

Standing next to her desk, she suddenly heard the door open.

She turned around and saw Spike standing across the room, staring at her. His gaze was so intense she thought he could see right through her.

Spike took one slow step and watched her shifted uncomfortably.

"Don't yell at me," Buffy blurted gazing at him sheepishly.

"Not gonna yell at you," he said taking another step

"Don't laugh at me," Buffy said with a strangled voice.

Spike watched her quiver and took another step. He couldn't believe how insecure she looked. It was almost as if she was scared of him

"Not gonna laugh at you," he closed the gap between them

Buffy felt like all the air had been sucked out of her lungs as she gazed at Spike's face, only a few inches from hers.

Not tearing her eyes from him, with the little power left in her, she tried to speak

"What are yo-"

Spike’s lips crushing against hers, pushing her back to lean on the desk cut her off.

Buffy wrapped her arms around his neck and deepened the kiss, opening her mouth when she felt his tongue against her lips.

Holding one another, both rough and gentle at the same time the two moaned as they explored each other’s mouths. Not breaking the kiss, Buffy wrapped her legs around Spike’s waist and let him carry to the bed.

Standing next to the edge of the bed Spike dropped Buffy to her feet and broke the kiss, panting.

"Buffy," Spike inhaled sharply and brushed a lock of hair from her face.

"Spike?" Buffy said quietly, almost afraid of his reaction.

Spike let his hand roam over her chest and watched her shiver.

"I want you,"

"Then take me," Buffy leaned to kiss him, pulling him to the bed.

Spike hovered over her, his bulge pressing between her legs.

"God Buffy," he broke the kiss to look at her with awe "tell me to stop," he suddenly blurted closing his eyes, trying to control his emotions.

"Why?" Buffy asked but pulled the hem of his shirt,

"Xander-" Spike panted

"Xander's not here," she said lustfully.

Spike leaned to kiss her again, his hands trying to reach every part of her body

"I don't want to hurt you," Spike whispered as he started kissing along her neck

"So don't stop," Buffy let out a moan as his mouth moved to kiss her breast through the thin martial of her shirt.

Suddenly Buffy pushed him away. Spike raised his head and stared at her confused

"I want to take my shirt off," she explained

Spike sat on the bed and took off his boots and shirt as well, when he was done he turned to gaze at Buffy and saw her stretched out on the bed with nothing but her panties.

Buffy shivered as she noticed his penetrating stare.

"Do you have one?" she broke the silence.

"What?"

"A condom?" she answered blushing

"Oh…yeah," Spike took out a wallet from his back pocket and held out a condom awkwardly.

"Buffy-" he hesitated but before he could say another word Buffy set on the bed to unzipped his pants.

Clenching his teeth, he looked down and watched her as she took him out of his pants.
Buffy stroked him a few times and heard him moan her name, she looked up, saw his eyes darken, she took the condom wrapper from his hand, and opened it with her teeth, and quickly taking the condom with her free hand, she wrapped it over his penis.

"Fuck… Buffy," Spike met her eyes and leaned to kiss her. He pushed her back on the bed and covered her body with his.

Buffy opened her legs to him and heard him groan, Spike looked up to meet her gaze as he slowly pushed into her,

Eyes never leaving each other, they both moaned as Spike was buried inside her

Amazed, Spike brought his hands to the sides of her face,

"You feel so good," he said and leaned to kiss her gently.

"I want to feel you move," Buffy said against his lips "please Spike" she gazed into his blue eyes.

Spike complied by pushing in and out of her with slow and deep strokes

Buffy moaned loudly, feeling overwhelmed by what Spike was doing to her. She never felt so alive; she didn't know this kind desire existed. She had only had sex once and it was cold and fast. However, something was building inside of her, feelings she had no control over,

She wanted to let Spike in completely and she had no problem letting down all of her barriers

"Harder," she gasped and dug her nails into his back.

Spike swallowed hard and moved faster, determined to push her over the edge.

"Ahhh," Buffy grasped his shoulders

"God Buffy…." Spike watched her arch her neck "So beautiful," he murmured

"Spike…Ahhh," Buffy let the wave of climax wash over her

"Christ," Spike breathed, feeling her inner walls clenching around him. He made a few hard thrusts before coming himself.

Spike collapsed on his back panting, he rolled on his side and took the condom off before turning to the girl lying beside him. When he noticed she was cuddling next to him he took her in his arms and let her head nestle against his chest.

Spike didn't know what to say. He stroked Buffy's back and felt her shivering under his touch. He looked down at her and noticed her eyes were closed.

He closed his heavy eyelids eyes as well and felt himself drifting off.

Half asleep, he heard a soft whisper, three little words that echoed in his ears.

"I love you,"

Buffy awoke and stretched slowly on her bed, feeling the empty space beside her she quickly sat up and looked around confused

"Spike?" Her voice cracked

Noticing a piece of paper on her nightstand, she
reached for it.

The was only two words written there

I'm sorry

"That bastard," Buffy muttered and threw the paper away.

She couldn't believe it happened to her again. She couldn't believe Spike of all people would do that her. She had said some harsh things about him in the past but she never meant them

She never believed they were true, until now.

Buffy brought her hands to her face and let out a sob, a moment passed before she wiped her cheeks and got off the bed,

No I'm not gonna play the victim again

"I'll show you sorry," she muttered and got dressed.

Spike thought he must have broken a bloody world record driving as fast as he could back to N.Y. His heart was pounding in his chest, his hands sweaty as he held the wheel firmly

"Such a wanker!" he spat looking at himself at the mirror.

"What are you doing Spike"? He asked himself his thoughts fixated on the woman he left behind.

"What the bloody hell have you done?" he murmured.

"Can I get a cup of coffee here?" a man grumbled across the room at Alex's Place

"Jody can you handle that," Willow requested before picking up the ringing phone.

"Hello,"

"Willow," Buffy said quietly.

"Buffy, thank god, we were so worried, how are you?"

"I'm coming home," Buffy simply stated.

"What wrong honey?" Willow asked hearing her friend’s broken voice.

"I hate it here," Buffy began sobbing, letting go of the tension inside her "I hate this life…I hate Spike…" she muttered, trying to push back her feelings.

"Oh sweetie, why didn't ask Spike to take you back?"

"He left," Buffy swallowed hard not sure if she should tell her friend the whole story.

"What'd happened Buffy?" Willow asked after a moment of silence.

"We slept together," Buffy, blurted without thinking.

"What?" Willow eyes widened.

"Oh god Willow, please don't tell Xander," Buffy realized what she said.

"Slept together? You mean like the naked kind of together?"

"Willow please," Buffy pleaded

"Buffy… How? Why? I thought you guys hate each other,"

"Willow c'mon…all those innuendos and the quarreling …"

There was silence at the other side of the line, until Willow spoke slowly

"So what, he just left afterwards?"

"Yes," Buffy murmured

"Come home Buffy, I'm sure everything will be alright,"

"I need to leave my stuff here and find a ride or a bus…"

"We'll worry about that later. Just have a safe trip back okay?"

"Okay…bye Willow,"

Willow hung up the phone as Xander walked in.

"Xander!" she said in total surprise "what are you doing here, what about your weekend with Anya?"

"Anya got sick and I just- -I just got sick of worrying…did you hear from Buffy?" he asked short on breath, standing behind the counter.

Willow bit her lip

"I'll take that as a yes…and from the message I got from Spike, its bad huh?"

"She's coming back-"

"Well that's great Will!" Xander smiled widely and then added, "This has something to do with Spike right?"

"W-why would say that?" Willow panicked

Pleased with himself and oblivious to the nervous girl in front of him Xander gazed around the room.

"Anya had this crazy idea…she said Buffy and Spike have feelings for each other and a trip could be a chance to get them together…of course I was against it but then she said Spike could bring Buffy back…."

"So you tricked them…" Willow said in shock

Xander caught her concerned expression and turned to her

"But it's all good right? I mean its Buffy and Spike…they fight and tease each other that’s what they do ….it's not like they would-"

"Sleep together?" Willow muttered under her breath.

"What happened, Will?" Xander glared at her.

"What do you think happened, Xander?" Willow couldn't hold back her anger

"Don't play games," Xander said firmly

"You're the one who plays games! You can't trick people and not expect any consequences Xander," Willow snapped

"Buffy and Spike slept together? Is that what you saying?"

"And then Spike left," Willow regretted the words as soon as they were out of her mouth.

"Left?"

"Yeah,"

"Without Buffy?"

Willow just stared at him.

There was a long pause before Xander turned on his heels.

"Wait …where are you going?" Willow watched him

Oh god…

Chapter 6

"…I mean they make studies on that kind of behavior you know, some kind of multiple personality-"

Tara gazed at the girl sitting next her at the car with a sympathetic smile. She'd been babbling about that Spike guy ever since they’d left campus and she had a feeling she wasn’t going to stop anytime soon.

"And the accent! What's the deal with that? Do you know how long he's been in the states…?" Buffy looked at Tara like she waiting for an answer but quickly added "10 years! That how long….you'd think he'd adjust or something, but Nooo….he's got to have his stupid accent with his stupid words, bloody, bugger, bollocks, bint…I don't know what bint even means!" she gazed at Tara with fire in her eyes.

Tara wanted to say something but kept her eyes on the road.

"So smug and arrogant…not that he’d have something to be so damn proud of. He's not so smart you know….he always got his way because he knew how to manipulate people…with those fake smiles…and those puppy eyes and cheek bones…" Buffy slowly became quiet.

"Buffy," Tara glanced at her after a moment and saw Buffy's lower lip tremble right before she started sobbing loudly.

Spike slammed the door behind him and walked warily into his dark apartment, when he suddenly spotted a figure sitting in the middle of the living room

"Hey man…" Xander said trying to sound casual

"Harris….almost scared the shit out of me," Spike approached him

"Oh I'm sorry," Xander got up from the chair and closed the gap between them

"How was the trip?" he asked coldly.

"It went fine," Spike shrugged avoiding his gaze.

"Really….'cause you know, I got your message and-"

"Yeah, about that-" Spike turned to face him but was knocked to the floor.

"Bloody hell!" Spike yelped as Xander launched himself at him again

Spike pushed Xander back enough to see how furious he really was.

"You slept with my sister?!" Xander stated with rage

"Harris I-" Spike froze, feeling blood on his lips.

"What!?...what are you going to say? There's nothing you can say to get out of this one Spike…you going to tell me that you didn't use her like she was one of those sluts you pick up at the bar…"

"It wasn't like that!" Spike got back on his feet, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.

"So what was it, uh?"

Spike took a moment before gazing at Xander. He didn't know what to say. It was too soon. He needed some time to figure things out but of course things always had to be complicated when it came down to Buffy. Why the hell didn’t she tell him what happened? …must have been red….he realized

"It better be a good one Spike, because I know a few good lawyers that can get anyone off with

murder…and you know I mean it when it comes to my sister,"

"I know mate," Spike nodded "I care about her too,"

"You have a funny way of showing it! Leaving her like that,"

"I freaked alright…I wasn't ready…" Spike lowered his gazed and sighed

"Ready…for what?"

Spike inhaled sharply before looking up

"I think I'm in love with her,"

Xander gazed at him blankly and then started laughing

"Whelp?" Spike raised a brow

Xander turned to look at him after a moment, shaking his head

"You two deserve each other,"

Xander watched Spike walking to door and raised a brow

"Where are you going?"

Spike stormed out the door without giving him a second glace

"Spike!" Xander called him in the hallway, but didn't make a move to stop him.

"Wow, I can believe we got here so fast," Buffy glanced at Tara as they parked near Xander's pub.

"I was highly motivated," Tara muttered

Buffy ignored her insinuation "You know we could have been pulled over by the police when you switched to third gear at that intersection-"

"I didn't mind taking that chance,"

"You know when Spike and I-"

"Buffy," Tara cut through her words and turned to look at her "why don't we go meet your friend and get something to drink huh?"

"Oh alright…of course…and thank you Tara, for the lift and everything,"

"Don't mention it," Tara smiled at her

Really

As soon as Buffy and Tara got out of the car Buffy stopped by the sidewalk and stare at the very familiar car parked next to them.

"Something wrong?" Tara gazed at stunned Buffy.

"Yes," Buffy mumbled and then turned to her resolved "I'm going to kill my brother,"

"You told him!" Buffy glared at Willow widened eyed

"I was so mad…ever since he told me about the car-"

"Yeah he's really going to pay for that one," Buffy clenched her teeth.

"Hi..i'm Tara by the way," Tara waved at Willow

"Nice to meet you," Willow smiled at her

Buffy watched as the two exchanged looks and smiled inwardly.

"So um… Buffy," Willow broke the silence after a minute. "Are you mad?"

Buffy raised a brow

"Um not in general because… um , obviously you are...just-"

"Will, relax," Buffy, said in a soothing tone "I hold way too many grudges now, you're the last person on the hit list,"

"So I'm on the list…?"

"It's a long list,"

"Good to know," Willow smiled widely and turned to Tara

"Something to drink?"

Buffy sat with Willow and Tara by the empty bar and watched as the two got to know each other. It was as if she wasn't even there, she didn't know why she was wasting time waiting for Xander. She didn't want to face him and she could think about Spike…he probably won't show his face here again she thought …if Xander knows…there's no telling what'd happen between them…

"Anya I've told you-" Xander barged in with his girlfriend by his side.

Buffy got up from her chair and glared at him,

Xander glared right back at her.

"You know this is where usually people say 'hello'" Anya gazed at the two " but then again that's what happens between siblings when one of them is boinking their brother's best friend," Anya glanced at Buffy

"You told Anya?" Buffy narrowed her eyes at Xander.

"Buffy what the hell-" Xander started talking but Buffy cut through his words

"I guess I should be surprised since Willow told it was her idea," Buffy took a step closer to him.

"It wasn't an idea…we just thought-"

"You didn't think at all Xander, so don't try to defend her," Buffy closed the gap between them so they were standing face to face.

"I'm standing right here, you know," Anya cut in

"Yes Anya I've noticed," Buffy glared at her

"Just saying," Anya mumbled and took a step back "people keep talking about me like I'm not here," she added more quietly and walked away.

Buffy turned to Xander again "After what you pulled I don't think you have a right to be mad at me, so whatever you had planned, save it,"

"I wasn't going to yell at you at all Buff, I'm just glad you here," Xander said quietly.

Buffy raised a brow "okay then…"

"Let's just forget about it alright, you're here. You never should have gone to that college, now you can go to art school like you wanted, everyone's happy," Xander was about to walked past her but Buffy caught him by the arm.

"What gives?"

"Nothing," Xander shrugged and smiled slightly.

"Where is Spike?"

Xander gazed at floor

"Xander?" Buffy said harshly.

"I hit him a few times and then he left,"

"Left where?" Buffy eyes widened.

"He took his car." Xander looked up at her "my guess…he's going back to get you,"

Buffy grabbed her handbag and turned to Xander reaching out her hand.

"Give me the keys."

"What?"

"The keys to your car! Now!"

Xander sighed and took the car keys out of his pocket

"Buffy I don't think-" Xander started protesting but Buffy grabbed the keys and walked past him.

An hour later Buffy was lost on the road

"Dammit Spike," she cursed and banged her hands against the steering wheel

If I wasn't so busy fighting you maybe I could tell where the hell I'm going…

Buffy wasn't sure why she was going after Spike. She wasn't sure if he was actually coming back to get her, but she knew she couldn't just sit around and wait for him. She was angry of course and she wanted to make him sorry, but a part of her , a big part just wanted to understand what happened. Her mind was in a daze since she woke up alone in her dorm room, and things just started to sink in…were they enemies?...were they ever friends…did they even care about each other?

"This place looks familiar," Buffy glanced at the parking lot, figuring it was the same inn in which she and Spike had spent the night.

A well known black car was parked near the entrance and Buffy pulled over instantly as soon as she spotted it.

Walking into the inn, Buffy started to panic. What would she say to Spike when she saw him? There wasn’t an easy way to fix this, there was no turning back after what they’d done. They would never look at each other the same way.

So much easier to talk to when he wanted to strangle me….

Spike was sitting at the inn's bar; gazing into his glass, he didn't notice the blond at the entrance

"Oh boy," Buffy mumbled to herself. She walked to stand at the other side of the room looking at Spike's back.

Buffy clenched her fists and scanned the room; she then noticed the jukebox next to her

She turned to look at it, when she came up with an idea. She took out a few coins from her pocket and put them into the machine, pressing the same buttons as she did before.

Buffy turned to face the bar again and crossed her arms nervously.

"You're dangerous 'cause you're honest
You're dangerous, you don't know what you want
Well you left my heart empty as a vacant lot
For any spirit to haunt…"

Buffy glanced at Spike’s back with a deep intensity.

"You're an accident waiting to happen
You're a piece of glass left there on the beach
Well you tell me things I know you're not supposed to Then you leave me just out of reach…"

"I guess that's only works at the movies," Buffy muttered under her breath.

Gazing down Buffy wondered if she should give up the whole thing. Spike obviously had the same doubts as she did, otherwise why would he stop to sit at a bar in the middle of nowhere…

"Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna drown in your blue sea,"

Buffy was about to leave when she looked up and found Spike staring at her from across the room.

"Who's gonna ride your wild horses
Who's gonna fall at the foot of thee…"

Biting her lip as he approached, Buffy took a few steps and closed the gap between them.

"What are you doing here?" Spike asked, bemused.

"I c-came back to town and then-" Buffy stuttered avoiding his gaze

"Hey," Spike lifted her chin to look at him.

"Oh my god Spike," her eyes widened as she stared at his split lip. "Xander did this?"

"Yeah," Spike dropped his hand and took a step back "um…look can we talk?" he asked anxiously and looked at the table next to them.

"Oh ...okay," Buffy said and sat down

Spike sat in front of Buffy, he gazed at his hands for a moment before looking at her.

Buffy's eyes wandered across the room unable to meet his piercing stare.

"Um Buffy look-" Spike hesitated

"I'm thirsty," Buffy blurted nervously

Spike glared at her, surprised. He actually felt relieved she had interrupted him. He wasn't quite sure what he was going to say.

"I can get you something to drink pet," he stated and got up from his chair.

"Thank you," Buffy smiled shyly "Um...diet coke,"

"Alright," Spike nodded before turning to the bar , I'm acting like a complete git he thought.

Buffy took a deep breath I should be yelling at him, punching him even but instead I'm concerned about his well being…WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?

"There you go," Spike put the glass on the table when something caught his eye through the window.

"Thanks," Buffy said and put the straw in her mouth, gulping quickly trying to calm down her nerves.

Spike narrowed his eyes at the window as he sat down slowly

"Summers…" he said warily and turned to face Buffy

"How did you get here?" Spike asked glaring at her.

Buffy continued drinking trough the straw her eyes gazing at the table.

Spike watched her for a moment before pressing at the straw and stopping her from taking another sip.

Buffy looked up to see Spike’s angry face, staring at her.

"I t-took Alex's car…" she mumbled, her mouth opened and closed failing to say more.

Spike got up from his seat and turned to the exit

"Spike wait!" Buffy followed him to the inn's entrance.

"I didn't know about it," she said when Spike turned to her.

"I believe you," Spike muttered and stepped outside.

Buffy stood beside him and glanced at him

"Look Buffy…" Spike turned to her, trying to find the right words "I shouldn't have taken advantage of you-"

"Taken advantage?" Buffy repeated

"No matter what feelings you have for me, I should have known better than-"

"Wait feelings? What feelings?" Buffy snapped, "The only feelings I have for you are disgust and revulsion Spike," she added without thinking.

"You said you love me," Spike spat angrily, aggravated by her attitude.

"Love you? What are you talking about?!…I don't even like you!"

"You really are going to deny it Summers? You were in my arms and I heard you," Spike took a step closer to Buffy

Buffy didn't recall saying anything to Spike right up that moment…her eyes widened as she remembered her words.

"Yeah well…. obviously I was thinking of Angel," she lied, meeting his gaze.

Spike clenched his teeth and tried to remain calm after hearing the name of her ex

"We both know you weren't thinking of bloody Angel," he muttered wryly

"I know you are an arrogant bastard Spike, I didn't think were delusional too," Buffy sneered and took a step back "love you?…. as if."

Spike opened his mouth to say something but Buffy cut him off

"And just for the record I blame what we shared on temporary insanity," Buffy added and turned to leave, biting her lip when she did.

"Yeah," Spike paused trying to control his anger "Well, you know what….you right! You're insane!" He yelled, watching her walking away.

"And just so you know!" Spike stopped before turning to his car "you were the worst shag I've ever had!"

"You weren't so great yourself!" Buffy yelled back at him before getting into the car.

"Pig," Buffy slammed the door behind her and rested her forehead on the steering wheel.

I need to get out of here Buffy lifted her head,

She took a deep breath before putting the gear in reverse and pressing the gas hard

Hearing a crunch of metal from behind her, she gazed at mirror in shock

"No...Not again," Buffy mumbled and craned her face to look at the vehicle behind her

It was Spike's.

Buffy stepped out of the car slowly and saw Spike standing at the edge of the car examining the damage with a face void of emotion. He raised his head to her as soon as she opened her mouth. .

"Spike I-" Buffy began

However, before she could say another word, Spike launched at her, crashing his lips against hers.

"I did it on purpose," he said against her lips before resuming the kiss.

Coming out of her shock, Buffy deepened the kiss, holding Spike by shoulders and crushing her chest against his.

Though the kiss was most passionate, letting all of her anger slip away, Buffy could not let go of a specific words spike had thrown at her.

Breaking the kiss with a gasp, she glared at him.

"Am I really the worst shag you ever had?" She said frowning

"You were the best Summers," Spike wanted to laugh but he was afraid it'd scare her off.

"But what about-"

He realized the best way to get her to shut up was to kiss her, and he didn't mind doing it until all of her doubts were laid to rest.

The End.

Chapter 7

A week later…

"So I told him 'you're not a part of my life anymore and if you think you can control me by a remote think again, and then I hung up on him,"

"Way to go Buff!" Willow said and raised her glass

"Yes, I can say for sure that I'm no longer the black sheep of this family," Xander said smiling, as he sat by the table between the two girls

"Oh please Xander, you never were a black sheep," Buffy patted his shoulder "Dolly the sheep maybe, or out to a different pasture sheep, but never a black sheep," she and Willow giggled

"Very funny!" Xander removed her hand from his shoulder and then noticed someone entering the pub.

"Spike!" Xander called to his friend. He hadn't seen him in days.

Buffy glanced at the door and met Spike's gaze, she lowered her eyes and smiled slightly as he approached.

"Hi," Spike walked warily towards the table.

"Come sit with us," Willow said

"No work?" Spike glanced at the empty pub as he sat,

"Slow day," Willow said and then noticed Spike and Buffy were avoiding each other's gaze.

"Dead is more like it," Xander corrected her and then turned to Spike

"So how is work?" Xander glared at his friend’s suit and tie, still not used to seeing him so dressed up.

"I think I'm going to quit," Spike blurted

Buffy quickly turned her head to look at him with surprise

"Really?" Xander asked, bemused

"Yeah," Spike said glancing at Buffy's face, amused by her reaction.

"They're firing you," Buffy smirked after a second.

"Yeah," Spike replied quickly with a matching smile, knowing he couldn't have fooled her.

They kept their eyes on each other even as the sound of loud giggling came through the door.

"Will, customers," Xander said getting up from his seat

Willow sighed and followed him, leaving the two blonds sitting next to each other.

"So…" Spike broke the silence and closed the gap between them

"So…" Buffy glared at him willing him to continue

"Um… I see Xander isn't busting my chops… you talked to him?"

"Yeah I-"

"Spikey?" a whiney voice cut through Buffy’s words.

Spike's face fell as he turned to the source of the voice

"Harmony," he said surprised, giving Buffy a sideways glance, noticing her rolling her eyes.

"You said you'd call me Blondie bear!" Harmony complained, "I thought you’d died or worse!"

"I'm fine Harm," Spike looked at her annoyed and most of all concerned about the girl that was sitting next to him, her expression spoke louder then words.

"Where have you been?"

"Around," Spike said impatiently and clenched his teeth.

Two girls came to stand next to Harmony and giggled, one of them leaned to whisper in her ear, Harmony laughed and turned to look back at Spike.

"Okay Spikey I have to go now…I'll call ya," she smiled and turned to follow her friends

Spike shook his head and turned his attention back to Buffy who was glaring at him aggressively

"Buffy I -"

"Save it," Buffy quickly got up from her seat

"Wait," Spike jumped and blocked her way

"You didn't break up with her?" Buffy yelled at him

"I didn't have time," Spike waved his hands defensively

"Oh that's rich!" Buffy tried to walked past him when she felt a hard grip on her arm

"I thought she'd get the message when I didn't call her back. It’s not like I was ever her top priority,"

"Well obviously she hasn't, and you are. Let go of my arm!" Buffy snapped and pulled her arm.

"Not until you listen!" Spike tightened his grip on her as Buffy struggled to free herself

Spike's attempt to calm Buffy down got her even more furious. After one last try to free her arm, she did the one thing she could do…

She took the bottle of ketchup that was on the table and aimed it at Spike's shirt.

Spike let go of her as soon as he noticed the red substance dripping off his tie.

Buffy didn't stay long enough to witness his reaction.

Buffy ran up the stairs to the apartment she now shared with her stepbrother. He was hardly ever there, always spending his time in the pub or at Anya's, so she knew she could have some peace and quiet.

She herself didn't think she'd see the crappy apartment for a while. Since she got back from her trip, everything seemed to focus on her and Spike

They hadn't really started a relationship, things were just too weird at first. She wasn't sure if she had forgiven him for leaving her like he did. How could she? Spike said he was sorry and that he wanted to be with her. A part of her really wanted to believe him, but the other part wanted to punch him in the face so hard his nose would bleed.

I should have done that years ago…maybe it would had more effect then the slandering…

Now there was Harmony, reminding her of the abruptness of this new situation.
Things looked more real now that she was home, everything she'd been through with Spike the last few years came rushing back.

Did I really think I could trust him?…I thought I knew better then that

Buffy stopped pacing in her room and looked at herself in the mirror

She studied her face and wondered what was going in Spike's mind. What did he see in her that changed his attitude towards her so drastically?

"You ruined my favorite tie," she heard a husky voice from behind her.

Buffy glanced at the mirror before turning to look at Spike with irritation.

"You don't even like ties, how could you have a favorite one!" she complained, and turned to clear her stuff from the nightstand.

"Well this is my favorite one and now it's ruined thanks to you," Spike got closer to her

"I'll buy you a new one"

"I don't want a new one, I liked that one,"

Buffy then felt the blood boiling in her veins. She reached to the drawer and took out a fair of scissors, before Spike knew what was happening, Buffy turned to face him and cut his tie in half.

"Bloody hell!" Spike gazed at his shredded tie "Why did you do that?"

"Why do you think?" Buffy said calmly

"Because you’re a childish brat!" Spike narrowed his eyes at the smiling blond.

However, Buffy's smirk faded as Spike grabbed the scissors roughly from her hand. She yelped when she realized what he was about to do and tried to escape.

"Not so fast missy," Spike grabbed Buffy by the waist, smirking when he heard her screaming at him to release her.

"Don't you dare Spike! I mean it," Buffy threatened but it was too late, Spike took the scissors and cut a lock of her hair.

Buffy pushed Spike away and turned to look at him horrified

Spike smirked at Buffy's reaction, her expression was priceless, her chin quivered and her eyes widened in shock as she looked at the lock of hair on the floor. She looked as if she was about to cry, but instead she launched at him with her tiny fists.

"I- can't –believe- you –did- that!" Buffy smacked his chest with the accented beat of her words.

Spike chuckled lightly.

"Relax goldilocks," he took a step back "it will grow back," he then threw the scissors aside.

"Unlike my tie," he grumbled, narrowing his eyes at her.

Buffy glared at him for a long moment before glancing at the scissors on her bed.

"Don't you even think about it!" Spike warned her.

As if he was reading her mind, a second later Spike found himself pushing Buffy to the bed and straddling her.

Spike held Buffy's wrist as she reached for the scissors

"No one ever told playing with pointy objects is dangerous?"

"I didn't hear you complaining," Buffy panted still trying to escape

"Give it up Summers," Spike pulled her wrists above her head and gazed at her face grinning.

"Never!" Buffy tried her best not to sound as helpless as she felt.

Spike leaned and brushed his lips against her "You're losing pet," he whispered

"I hate you," Buffy mumbled her eyes fixed on his.

"No you don't," Spike said softly

"Yes I do,"

"No…" Spike nudged her lips with his, not breaking eye contact, "You don't"

"Xander lets go already," Anya rushed her boyfriend, who stood behind the counter.

"In a minute An, I just need to go upstairs to tell Buffy something," Xander turned to the stairs

"Oh no you don't…stop right there buddy," Willow blocked his way.

"Will…I'm in a hurry here," Xander glanced at her impatiently

"You can't…Spike and Buffy are there,"

"So?"

"They kinda had a fight earlier and Spike went there to talk to her," Willow looked at him intensely, trying to make him to see her point.

"Oh I see…" Xander nodded "You want me to step back and let my best friend shack up with my sister? Sure, no problem," Xander narrowed his eyes at her and tried to walked past her

"I mean it Xander," Willow stopped him again

Xander stared at Willow’s resolved face and sighed.

"C'mon Xander you’ve seen the way they look at each other,"

"Yeah that’s what I'm worried about!"

"They're in love,"

"They're in-something…" Xander muttered, "Look, Will," Xander gazed at his friend’s face "Spike is a good guy okay, he's my best friend, we've been through a lot together. That's why I know what I'm talking about….it's not going to be easy for either of them. I just don't want to see anybody getting hurt,"

"You know," Willow, said most attentively, "You occasionally say some smart stuff," she glared at him and watched him smile slightly.

"But what you said right now was a bunch of crap!" Willow snapped.

"What?" Xander’s smile dissolved

"You just can't handle it!" Willow glared at him

"Buffy and Spike have a chance to be really happy. I can't, I won't," Willow corrected herself, "let you stand in their way!"

Xander looked at her stunned

"I think she's right," Anya cut in "It's not fair for you to stand between a couple and their many potential orgasms,”

"An!"

"Just saying"

Spike stopped kissing Buffy only to be punched in the face, and fly off the bed.

It took him a moment to realize what had just happened. He knew Buffy was still mad at him but he really thought they were making progress.

"Bloody hell women…what does it take?" he said getting up from the floor

"More then that," Buffy gnashed her teeth and got up as well.

Spike studied her heated expression and sighed, gazing up the ceiling.

"Buffy, I'll break up with her…she means nothing to me," he gazed at her

"And I do?" Buffy crossed her arms and glared at him

"Of course you do" Spike said softly closing the gap between them.

"I know I've been a jerk," Spike started explaining in a low voice and before Buffy could say something, he added, "I shouldn't have left you. If I could take that back I would….but I can't….all I know is that I've changed Buffy. The way I feel…about you…" Spike smiled slightly when he noticed Buffy's face softened.

"There's something between us Summers, and I want to make it work,"

Buffy looked down for a moment before meeting his gaze with a serious expression.

"Then prove it,"

Chapter 8

"So what do you want me to do? Stand out on a sodding fire-escape and sing you a bloody serenade?"

"OUT!" Buffy pushed Spike towards the door

"Summers," Spike said in a more soothing tone "I was only joking,"

"I don't care," Buffy pushed him again, until he was outside.

"Pet listen-" Spike took a step forward but the door was slammed to his face.

"Women!" Spike mumbled as he looked down on his drink.

"What about them?" a familiar voice responded

Spike turned his head and saw Xander, sitting next to him at the bar

"What are you doing here Harris?"

"I thought I'd check out the competition," Xander scanned the
area of pub.

"Your pub is at the other side of town, mate,"

"Yeah," Xander glared at the hectic crowd "and now I know where all the action is,"

"How did you find me?"

"Anya told me you hang here…I've got to say I was a little disappointed. You know I make a great Metropolitan,” Xander glared at Spike's drink.

"It's a Manhattan…and I don't think you're here to criticize my drinking,"

"You right, I'm not," Xander took a moment before sending his friend a harsh look.

"Spike… your thing for a lack of a better term…with Buffy, it has to stop you know that, right?" Xander watched his friend closely, as he leaned forward and waited for his reaction.

Spike clenched his teeth and gazed back on his drink

"I know the last few times we talked…things got a little out of control-"

Spike glared at Xander mid-sentence

"I'm sorry about the car scheme and the split lip… it looks much better by the way," Xander smiled awkwardly

Spike finished his drink and murmured, "You’ve got nothing to worry about,"

"What's that?" Xander tried to catch his words

"I said you got nothing to worry about," Spike turned wearily to his best friend. "Your little sis and I are far from having any kind of relationship…unless I'll make a bloody pillock out of myself…and then-" Spike put his hand on Xander's shoulder, sounding more drunk then before. "Even then…be sure she'll take much pleasure in tearing my bleeding heart out,"

"Spike…" Xander raised a brow "what are you talking about?"

"So what did you want to talk to me about?" Willow took off her apron and sat next to Buffy by the bar.

Buffy glared at her friend for a long moment before speaking quietly

"I think….i think I made a mistake,"

"Is this about Spike?"

Hearing his name almost made Buffy jump off her chair, she clenched her fists and sighed, looking back at her patient friend.

"Spike has power now. He has power over me…it looks like
he knows about my feelings more then I do and….i don't like it," Buffy pouted

"Spike cares about you," Willow simply stated, trying to make her friend feel better.

"No…well maybe…" Buffy shook her head "but that's not the point"

"What is the point?"

"Will…there're a lot of things you don't know about Spike and I, about our history."

"What kinda things?"

4 years earlier…

"Bollocks to the all things! I don't even want to go to that bloody party,"

Buffy was standing near her locker, watching her brother and his best friend walking down the hallway.

"What are two talking about?" she asked as they stood next to her

"None of your business brat," Spike turned to look at her

Buffy bit her lip and looked away. She didn't understand why the young Brit was always so mean to her.

"He's just touchy today because he and Dru break up again," Xander explained

"Drusilla will come around," Spike said and took his things from his locker.

"How many times do have to I tell you?...get rid of that crazy bit-"

"Don't finish that sentence," Spike warned, narrowing his eyes

Buffy watched him as he put his coat on and turned to leave.

'"I-I like your coat," she mumbled

Spike raised a brow and glared at her for a moment, before turning back to his friend.

"I'm not coming,"

"Why the hell not?" Xander snapped

"I want to come," Buffy blurted without thinking

"You're a freshmen Buff…" Xander explained

"So?" Buffy crossed her arms

"Yeah Harris …let the bit live a little," Spike smirked "experience new things, expanding her horizons,"

"No! There's no way i-"

"You know what goldilocks… I'll take ya," Spike turned to the young girl who smiled at him shyly

"Spike!" Xander snapped, but before he could say anything else, his bleached headed friend turned to leave.

"Don't worry whelp…we'll have lots of fun," Spike said while walking away

Buffy turned to her stepbrother with a glint in her eye.

The night of the party arrived and Buffy was pacing in her room, restless.

"Let's go Buff," Xander knocked on the door

Buffy opened it quickly "Is Spike here already?" she asked

"No... Change of plans…we're gonna meet him there,"

"Oh…okay," Buffy tried to hide her disappointment and followed her brother to the car.

When Buffy and Xander arrived, Buffy almost jumped out of the car before it stopped.

She knocked at the front door and smiled brightly when it opened

"Who are you?" a grumpy guy scanned her up and down.

"She's with me,” Xander quickly stood beside his sister. He gave her a scolding gaze before the guy let the two in.

"Where is Spike?" Buffy asked and looked around the room full of people.

"I think I see him," Xander held Buffy by the arm "He's there with Dru," Xander pointed to the corner of the room near the fireplace.

Buffy's face fall as soon as she spotted the two together

"Let’s say hello," Xander pulled her by the arm

Buffy wanted nothing more than ran. However, she knew she had no choice, but follow her brother.

"Well looky here...you brought the bit after all,” Spike grinned when the two approached him.

"Who's that William?" Dru tightened her grip around Spike's waist and glared at Buffy.

"That's Xander's little sis, she goes to our school Dru,"

"What's her name?"

"Her name is Buffy," Buffy snapped and narrowed her eyes at brunette

"Aww feisty," Drusilla turned to Spike grinning

"Sorry I didn't come to pick you up whelp…Dru needed me," Spike explained to Xander.

"That's okay man," Xander looked around and spotted drinks at the bar

"I'm gonna get us drinks Buff,” he glanced at his sister before leaving. Buffy jumped in her place. She wanted to follow him, but staying a few steps from the couple, she desperately tried to avoid.

"Pretty little thing isn't she?”

Buffy overheard Drusilla comment to Spike

"She's a child Dru," Spike replied coldly

"Lovely sundress," Drusilla giggled and Spike laughed along with her.

"I think she has a crush on you, my Spike," she added

"She's just an annoying brat looking for attention. Her mom and dad left the country and now she wandering around. Like a stray dog looking for a home…even her brother is constantly trying to get rid of her. I feel sorry for whatever git she ends up with,"

Not able to hear more, Buffy held back her tears and tried to escape quickly through the crowd of people.

Present day…

Willow glared at her friend for a moment, after she finished her story.

"Well, that explains some things," she finally said, with a tiny smile.

"I guess since then my attitude had changed a little…a lot," Buffy corrected when her friend raised a brow.

"I wanted to put everyone in their place…starting with Spike," Buffy smiled bitterly "I'm not saying he caused me to rebel, and do all those stupid things I've done over the years…but he was a major part of it,"

"I sorry that happened to you sweetie, but that's in the past," Willow paused for a moment "what you gonna do now?...about Spike?"

"He needs to prove himself,"

"Buffy…" Willow said with a smirk

"He ran away," Buffy explained defensively

"And he came back, you know he's sorry,"

"I know…it's not like I'm looking for a declaration of love or anything," Buffy shrugged

"You're not?" Willow asked skeptically

"No…I just want to be sure," Buffy muttered, as she played with her hands.

"Sure of what?"

Buffy gazed up and glared at her friend with a straight face.

"Sure he won't hurt me again,"

Cutting the evening short, Spike returned to his apartment. He was actually glad his best friend had showed up when he did. Otherwise, he would have continued drinking the night away. Still talking to Xander was hard these days. They both felt a lot of resentment towards each other, Xander was always very tolerant with Spike, but when it came to his sister all bets were off. Spike knew Xander was very protective of her and with a good reason too.

Spike froze outside his apartment, as he noticed the front door was slightly opened. He opened it slowly, and was relieved as he saw his belongings were in their place.

He sighed in relief. The last thing he needed was to be fired and get robbed at the same week.

Walking wearily to his bedroom Spike's eyes widened when he switched the lights on

"Harmony!"

"Hi Spikey," the ditzy blond leaned at the side of Spike's king size bed and smiled at him.

"What the bloody hell are you doing here?" Spike took a few steps closer.

"Thought I'll surprise you silly…." Harmony was about to get up on her knees, when Spike stopped her by holding out his hand.

"Are you…are you naked under there?" Spike mumbled pointing at the sheet that was wrapped around her.

"Well Duh! Of course I am," Harmony rolled her eyes and leaned back frowning "I was waiting here for hours. Where have you been?"

"Harm…" Spike tried not to lose his temper as he glared at her "we need to talk," Harmony got rid of the sheet quickly and stretched out on the bed, smiling.

"Are you sure about that Blondie bear?"
