Angie Collins opened up the last box and started to empty out it contents. She was a tall girl with strawberry blond hair that fell down past her shoulders. She smiled lightly as her hazel eyes scanned the interior of the box

“Last one,” she chirped happily as her mother entered the room.

“Finally,” Veronica replied, “Who thought it would have taken three whole weeks to be completely unpacked.”

“Yeah, well, maybe if you stopped collecting teaspoons . . .”

Veronica shot her teenage daughter a look.

“Those teaspoons are going to be worth money some day just you wait and see, “she replied, “I might be paying your college tuition with them.”

“Oh yay,” Angie replied sarcastically, “I can’t wait for my teaspoon fund to mature.”

Veronica rolled her eyes. she looked up at the clock and saw the time.

“Sweetie you better get to bed you start school tomorrow.”

Angie yawned and got to her feet. she kissed her mother good night and got ready for bed. after she got changed into her pajamas she sat down in front of her mirror and started to brush her hair. on the back of her neck was a large, ridged mound her parents told her it was a birth defect but Angie was never that sure. Angie was very embarrassed about it and usually wore scarves to cover it up. after she finished brushing she climbed into bed and switched off the light. it didn’t take long for her to drift into a long peaceful sleep.

A few minutes later three small spines extruded from the mound on the back of her neck. They were white and about an inch long and they started to glow. the energy shimmered brightly and soon it began to snake its way across her entire body. it didn’t take long for the teenager to be covered by the strange ethereal glow. there was a bright flash and Angie completely vanished. With no form to hold them up Angie’s covers and pajamas deflated.

There was a light knocking on her door. Veronica opened it and entered the room quietly.

“Honey?” she asked softly, “are you asleep?”

She looked at the empty bed in horror and rushed over to it. she ripped off the covers to discover that her daughter had completely vanished and all that was left was her empty pajamas left in the position she was sleeping in.

“Oh no,” Veronica said in a panic, “not here.”

For the next hour or so Veronica paced in the lounge in a complete sate of worry. Somebody knocked on the front door and Veronica rushed over energetically. She answered it and there on the other side stood Angie. Her hair was completely full of leaves and twigs as a good portion of her body was covered in mud. Angie frowned miserably as she held the two pieces of old news paper tightly against her body for cover. Veronica sighed in relief and hugged Angie tightly. She then looked her daughter straight in the eye.

“It happened again didn’t it.” she said

Alex stood in the kitchen. He was cooking up a storm when he heard the sound of the front door opening. Turning down the heat he wandered into the lounge where Rebecca and Belle had just entered.

“Hi you two.” Alex said happily

“Hi sweetie,” Rebecca replied kissing him lightly, “Dinner nearly ready?”

“Almost, hope you two are hungry.”

“After that Patrol definitely.” Belle said

Alex nodded and returned to the kitchen. Rebecca had sensing some tension coming from him since the whole incident with the wolf seal but decided that if he wanted to talk about it he will. she was relieved thought that he knows what’s happening now and she doesn’t have to lie anymore. Rebecca turned her attention back to the slayer.

“You did great tonight,” she commented, “I think you’re almost ready to patrol on your own soon.”

“Great. So how old do you think those vamps were tonight?” Belle replied

Rebecca pondered this thoughtfully.

“From the way they were dressed at least four centuries.”

“It kinda freaked me out when they started to swing their swords at me and shouted in the weird language.”

“I think it was Latin,” Rebecca replied

“What ever it was it didn’t make me feel any better.”

“Well their dust now so you don’t have to worry about it.”

Belle smiled and held up the sword she was carrying.

“Yeah and I got this cool prize.”

“You better put it down. Alex has this rule about swords at the table.”

Belle smirked and leaned the weapon in the doorway. she looked up on the lounge room wall and saw something. She walked over and studied the weapon closely.

“Hey Rebecca, “Belle asked, “What’s that?”

Rebecca looked over to where Belle was looking. The memories came flooding back as she looked at the gold colored blade.

“That’s the Scythe.” She replied

“The what?”

“The Golden Scythe,” Rebecca replied, “used to be The Scythe of the slayers until I found out it was made for me.”

Belle looked over at the Divine One curiously. There is so much about this woman she didn’t know but decided not to ask because it looked like it upset her too much. Rebecca sat down in the armchair and looked over to Belle.

“So was it hard to get out of the house tonight?”

Belle sat down on the sofa and shrugged,

“A little,” she replied, “I’m supposed to be grounded.”

“Why?”

“you remember a couple of weeks ago when we found that headless guy that Meredith ate the brains out of?”

“Yeah”

“My dad caught me heading home. I think he’s getting suspicious.”

Rebecca smiled at her.

“Don’t worry I’ll help you come up with some reasons for heading out.”

Alex laughed from the kitchen. Rebecca shot him a look.

“What?” she asked him

“You’re going to help her come up with excuses?” Alex replied laughing

“Yeah. what about it?”

“Sorry it’s just that I still remember the excuses you used on me.”

Belle looked at the two of them with interest.

“What did she say?” she asked

Alex thought about this for a moment.

“I think my favorite was ‘I’ll be back in a minute’.”

Belle turned and smirked at Rebecca.

“Oh my god.” She exclaimed

“I was under a lot of pressure back then I had to think quickly.” Rebecca snapped

Alex looked up from his cooking and shook his head at his wife.

“’I have to go to the bathroom’ that was your quick thinking?” he remarked, “I’m surprised you didn’t point your finger and shout ‘look over there’.”

Rebecca glared playfully at Alex.

“Alright, Alright I think you made your point.”

“Oh no I have more.”

“You want me to make my point?”

Alex looked at the expression on Rebecca's face.

“I’ll think I’ll get back to the dinner.”

The next morning Veronica pulled up in front of Raleighfield high. She looked over to Angie who was still upset.

“Here we are,” Veronica said lightly

Angie said nothing she just sat still with her arms folded. Veronica stroked her daughter’s hair.

“Come on you’re going to have a great time I know it,” she continued, “Raleighfield’s a nice place I don’t think there’s anything here that can hurt us.”

“What if it happens again mom?” Angie snapped, “what if I go someplace I can’t come back from?”

“Honey you know this doesn’t happen every night. We’ll deal with it the way we’ve always dealt with it. come on you’re going to be late.”

Angie looked over to her Mom’s bright expression and sighed. she was right it never happens every night. She leaned over and kissed her mother on the cheek before climbing out of the car. For the longest moment she stood and stared at the building she was going to school in. she took a deep breath and walked in. near the doorway Principal Crawford stood. he was chatting with one of the teachers when he noticed the timid student walk in. Excusing himself from the conversation he went over to her.

“You’re Angie right?” he asked, “I’m Principal Crawford.”

“Hi,” Angie replied nervously

Principal Crawford smiled at her.

“Don’t worry this place only looks scary.” He replied

Just then Nolan walked through the front door. he was about to head for the library when Principal Crawford stopped him.

“Hey Nolan, this is Angie, you wouldn’t mind giving her a tour?” he asked

He looked over to the blond and shrugged lightly.

“Sure,” he replied, “I can do that.”

Nolan gestured to Angie and she followed him. for the first few moment both of them were silent.

“So . . . You’re new huh?” Nolan asked

“Yeah,” Angie replied nervously, “me and my mom move here a couple of weeks ago.”

Nolan nodded with interest.

“Cool. Hey, you’re not a giant spider are you?”

Angie looked over at Nolan strangely

“What?”

“Sorry it’s just I have this whole thing about giant spiders after one nearly . . .”

Nolan stopped after he noticed the expression on Angie’s face. he quickly cleared his throat

“So . . . You’re new huh?”

“This is simply extraordinary,” Nigel said as he held up the sword

“Glad you like it,” Belle replied, “Got it off one of the vamps I dusted last night.”

“Well this definitely is an interesting piece. Off the top of my head I’d say this was one of the weapons used during the crusades.”

“They fought like knights,” Rebecca commented

“Indeed this is going to require further study.”

Nigel swung the blade around experimentally. Belle and Heidi, who was sitting near by, look at each other and smirked. Nigel got into his motions but stopped when he noticed Nolan standing in the doorway with an unfamiliar girl. Both Nolan and Angie stared at Nigel.

“ . . . And this is the library.” Nolan said anxiously

“Ah,” Nigel said awkwardly, “I suppose you’re wondering what I’m doing?”

“I think we’re all wondering that Nige.” Belle commented

“Yes, well, I was preparing for the, ah, medieval theme day I’m having in the library.”

“Yeah that’s right,” Nolan replied confused, “Nigel’s really big on . . . theme days.”

“I think I’ll look around myself,” Angie said, “We still on for lunch?”

“Yeah I’ll meet you at the cafeteria.”

Shooting one last stage look at Nigel Angie turned and left. after the coast was clear Nolan walked over to Nigel.

“Theme day?”

“It was all I could think of at the time.”

Nolan sat down next to Belle and stared at the watcher.

“You sure there’s enough oxygen in this library?”

“ha, ha.” Nigel replied sarcastically as he put the sword away

“So who was that?” Belle asked

“Some new girl,” Nolan replied

“Another one? you hoping she’s gonna jump all over you like the last one did?”

“I don’t think this one’s evil. I did the giant spider test and there was nothing.”

“Okay,” Belle replied curiously, “how does that work?”

“It too complicated for you to understand.” Nolan replied

Later that evening Angie and Veronica we’re quietly eating dinner.

“How was school?” Veronica asked

“It’s okay,” Angie replied, “lot of weird people though. I saw the librarian swinging a sword.”

“Really?”

“Yeah he said it was for some kind of theme day.”

“Anything else?”

A small smile crossed Angie’s face

“There was this guy.”

Veronica smirked at her daughter.

“Oh.”

“Yeah, he was kinda cute in a goofy sought of way.”

“Did you talk to him?”

“he asked me if I was a giant spider.”

“Any reason why?”

“I don’t know,” Angie replied, “I think he was just trying to talk to me.”

“I’m sure he’s a nice boy.”

Angie looked up at the clock. It was about a quarter past eleven. Angie was still getting used to these late dinners since her mom had to work long ours at her job. Excusing herself she got changed and went to bed.

Nolan stirred lightly in his bed. he had a lot of homework to do and ended up spending most of the night on it. by the time he was finished it was practically midnight and he didn’t even bother getting changed before he crashed for the night. He squinted his eyes slightly as he thought he saw a bright light reflecting off his mirror but when he looked there was nothing there. He turned over and his hand fell on something.

It was warm and spongy and kind of roundish with a lump on the top. By this stage Nolan was completely out of it and didn’t register what was happening to him. Frowning he squeezed the strange object experimentally to try and figure out what it was. A he felt around the area he found out there was another one exactly the same right next to it This was really weird he didn’t remember bringing anything like that with him to bed. he let his hand wander and discovered that there was something larger attached to these two strange things. He must be going insane because if he didn’t know any better he’d swear there was a girl laying next to him.

Angie stirred uncomfortably. She had this weird sensation all over her body like someone was feeling her up. she slid over slightly and her lips pressed against something almost like she was kissing. In unison both Angie and Nolan opened there eyes. they stared at each other in shock before Nolan flew backwards out of his bed and against the wall. Angie quickly sat up and used the pillow to cover herself. she looked around Nolan’s room in confusion. It happened again . . . But it never happens twice in a row. It was then she saw panicking Nolan staring at her. she

“Nolan?” she asked curiously

“Angie?” Nolan replied looking at the girl cautiously, “how did you . . . ah . . . why aren’t you . . .”

Angie raised her hand defensively.

“I can totally explain this,” Angie said, “Just don’t freak out.”
