Part 2

Ron Weasley looked up from the cupboard he had been cleaning out at the sound of glass shattering. Turning around he looked at the glass shards on the floor surrounding the bushy haired girl across the room. That was the fourth glass today. He had lost count of how many things she’d broken in the last weeks. She had been this way since arriving at headquarters the week after the school term ended.

Hermione Granger stomped her foot in anger. This had been happening all summer. She would pick something up and would grip too hard and it would shatter. Problem was, she didn’t feel like she was gripping that hard. A lot of things seemed off for her lately. The other day Fred Weasley had thrown a dung bomb at her, she had not only caught it before it exploded but when she threw it back at him, it hit with enough force to knock him down, much to the amusement of Ron, and George, Fred’s twin brother. She also felt things she hadn’t felt before. The last few days she felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up every time Professor Lupin came in the room.

“Hermione did you break another one?” Ron asked, pulling her out of her thoughts.

“I don’t know why that keeps happening,” she complained to the youngest of the red headed Weasley brothers.

“Maybe you should ask mum for something to do that doesn’t involve anything breakable,” Ron suggested.

Hermione glared at him. That wasn’t an answer to why everything she touched was breaking. It wasn’t as if she was clumsy and he knew that, they had known each other for almost six years now. Since they were eleven years old and had first met on the Hogwarts Express. She wasn’t really angry at him, he couldn’t do anything about it, nor was he causing it. She had even questioned Fred and George to be sure they hadn’t done something to her, that would make this happen. Fred had pointed out that why would he charm her with a spell to give her that kind of strength and then stand there while she threw a dung bomb at him.

“Maybe you’re right,” She finally replied. She couldn’t very well continue to destroy all the breakable items in the house. Maybe there were some doxies that needed to be cleaned out or something. Sighing she quickly cleaned up the broken glass dumping it in the trash bin and headed to the kitchen to find Molly Weasley.

Molly Weasley was beginning to prepare dinner. Harry Potter would be arriving today. Albus Dumbledore had insisted that Harry must return to his aunt and uncle’s home for at least a few weeks every year. As long as he could call that his home he would be protected from Lord Voldemort. But he had been there almost a month now and Remus and Mad-eye were on their way to get him and bring him here for the rest of the summer.

Dumbledore would be here for dinner tonight too. He didn’t often stay for dinner. He would come for the meetings and leave. He was the one most actively searching out Voldemort. Severus Snape as well, he was a former member of Voldemort’s Death Eaters and was currently spying on the dark wizard and making reports to the Order. Dumbledore was going to be here because Harry would be arriving. They had found papers belonging to Sirius Black after his death at the hands of the Death Eaters. He had left this house, the house that was currently being used for the Order of the Phoenix Headquarters to Harry. He had no remaining family and Harry was his god child so he had left the home to him. Dumbledore was going to tell Harry tonight.

“Mrs. Weasley?” Hermione said quietly. The older woman had been lost in her own thoughts and she hadn’t wanted to interrupt.

“Yes dear?” She turned her attention away from the knives currently chopping vegetables.

“I um, I broke another glass, you know?” Hermione admitted, “Ron suggested maybe you have something I could do that wouldn’t break?”

“Another? Oh dear. Are you alright?” Mrs. Weasley asked. The child had been breaking a lot of things lately. After assuring herself that Hermione was okay, “You could check the curtains for doxies. We haven’t done that in a while and you know they keep coming back.”

“I’ll do that,” Hermione quickly found the spray bottle and a bag and left to begin her new unbreakable task.

Remus had said he was contacting someone about Hermione’s recent problems. He hadn’t wanted to give any details until he heard something. But he had told them the other day that he had an idea what was causing the child’s unexpected shows of strength. He had a friend that might be able to help them but he would have to contact him and it might take a few days. He didn’t want anything said to Hermione or the other kids until they knew something for certain.

Mrs. Weasley was just finishing setting the large table when she heard a crash near the front door, quickly followed by the yelling of the portraits lining the front hall.

“Tonks!” She yelled, “You need to be more careful.”

She ran into the front hall and began helping Fred and George pull curtain that was supposed to be covering Sirius Black’s mother’s portrait closed. The woman hated having them in her home. Not that as a painting on the wall she could do much about it other than make their lives miserable with her yelling at the slightest noise. Just as they finished covering her the door opened again.

Harry Potter, Remus Lupin, and Mad-Eye Moody walked in quietly. They had heard the yelling outside the door and knew there would be hell to pay if they gained the woman’s attention so soon after Mrs. Weasley had quieted her.

“Harry dear, so nice to see you,” Mrs. Weasley hugged the boy and motioned everyone to the kitchen, “Fred, George please go find the other’s let them know that Harry is here and dinner will be ready as soon as Professor Dumbledore arrives.”

Both boys quickly said hello to Harry and went off to find Ron, Hermione, Ginny and their father.

“How have you been dear?” Mrs. Weasley asked as Harry took a seat across from Lupin and Moody, and next to Tonks who, today, had bright green spike-y hair.

“Fine, the Dursleys were so frightened by Professor Moody that they barely spoke to me since I’ve been home.” He smiled at the memory of the last weeks.

Every day his uncle had reminded him to send letters to Moody, Lupin, Tonks and Mr. Weasley. Harry had taken a lot of delight in pretending to forget to send letters for a few days to just watch his aunt and uncle watching the windows in fear of someone seeing ‘those people’ coming to the house.

“They were good to you then?” Moody asked his magical eye watching Harry closely.

“As good as they can be.”

“Harry you’re finally here!” Hermione ran into the room throwing her arms around Harry, hugging him tightly.

“Hermione --can’t breathe,” Harry said struggling to get away from the girl. “Huh, been working out or something?”

“Oh, I’m so sorry I don’t know what…” Hermione sat in the chair next to Tonks covering her face.

“She’s been wicked strong lately,” Ron said sitting in the chair next to Harry, “It’s kind of scary. But you should have seen her knock Fred out with a dung bomb.”

“That was great,” Ginny agreed, “Hi Harry.”

Mr. Weasley greeted Harry as he came in the room followed closely by the twins. Everyone was taking their seats at the table when Dumbledore walked in.

“Hello. Am I late,” He asked, seeing everyone already seated.

“Oh no. We were just catching up with Harry,” Tonks assured the older wizard.

“Well then I don’t want to hold up dinner or catching up on summer activities,” He took the empty seat at the end of the table, as the Ginny and Hermione stood to help Mrs. Weasley bring the food to the table. “Hello Harry.”

The table was quiet once dinner was on the table as everyone ate. Hermione once again breaking a glass when she lifted it to take a drink. She hid her face in her hands to hide her blush when Professor Dumbledore waved his wand, charming a new glass so that it wouldn’t break.

“Remus I’d like to talk to you about that letter you sent before I leave,” He said quietly after the mess had been cleaned up.

Lupin nodded in agreement. He hadn’t heard anything yet but he had just sent the letter two days ago and he wasn’t sure how long muggle post would take, or how long it would take Rupert Giles to respond. Once dinner was finished and the mess cleaned up Dumbledore told Harry he needed to speak to him alone. Harry, not sure what the Headmaster wanted quietly followed him to the small office across the hall.

“Harry, we have to talk about some things we found belonging to Sirius,” Dumbledore said as Harry pushed the door closed behind him, “Please sit.”

Harry looked at the older wizard; he didn’t want to talk about Sirius. He was still angry about his god father’s death. Still angry at Dumbledore for trusting Professor Snape. Still angry about a lot or things.

“Harry, we found some papers. As you know Sirius was the last member of the Black family,” When Harry nodded Dumbledore continued, “He left this.”

Harry took the paper Dumbledore was holding out to him. It was written in writing he recognized as belonging to his god father. Harry read the paper slowly twice before looking back at the man across from him.

“What does this mean?’

“It means, Harry, that this is now your house,” Dumbledore said quietly.

“Mine?” Harry stared at the room around him, he was sixteen what was he going to do with a house.

“Yes. It is yours to do with as you see fit,” Dumbledore said, “You can sell it if you wish. I do urge you not to decide to move into it though. As I told you in June, you are under a certain amount of protection as long as you call the Dursleys house your home.”

“Why would I… I can’t sell it,” Harry said, “You still need it for the Order right, you still need a headquarters?”

“If you wish to sell it we will think of something Harry.”

“This is my fight as much as yours,” Harry told Dumbledore, “And Professor Lupin’s been living here too right?”

“Don’t make your decision because of me Harry,” Remus walked in and was standing behind Harry. “I’ve been in worse positions than I am right now. I’ll manage.”

“No I want to keep the house. I want you to live here,” He looked at Lupin, “I want it to stay the Order’s headquarters. It’s what Sirius would want.”

“If you’re sure,” Dumbledore agreed. He had been fairly certain of Harry’s decision but he had to give the boy his choices.

“I’m sure. Was there anything else?” Harry asked.

“No go see your friends.” Dumbledore said then waited for Harry to leave before turning his attention to Remus Lupin. “Have you heard from your friend regarding Miss Granger?”

“It’s only been a few days. I had to use muggle post. And I didn’t have a current address. I had to send it to a friend of his in Los Angeles. I don’t know how long it will take for a reply.”

“I see now what you were saying about her shows of strength,” Dumbledore said, “We can only hope that none of the new power manifests itself in her magic before we talk to your friend and find a way to deal with it.”

“I agree, this situation is upsetting her and I’m afraid it may come out magically.”

“Watch her carefully, I’d rather not tell her anything until we know something concrete but if it appears to be a problem tell her,” Dumbledore told the younger man.
