Homecoming

The Slayer knocked timidly on the door of the hotel. No answer. She tried
the doorknob. Unlocked. She peeked into the empty lobby.
"Hello?"
Silence.
She stepped inside, and darted curious looks at the room. Footsteps on the
stairs.
"Have we found the amulet?" a familiar voice called. He looked up from the
papers he held. She shifted nervously next to the counter, and met his eyes.
"It can't be."
"It is."
The papers hit the floor. His arms were tight around her waist, her feet
dangled, his lips in her hair. She smiled a little against his shoulder.
