The Renaissance Hotel, Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Memorial Day Weekend, May 28-30, 2004

The Conference

The Music City, Nashville, Tennessee, will play host, May 28-30, to an international conference intended to be a definitive post-mortem / wake / summing up for Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2003), one of television's greatest shows.

The first such gathering to be held in the United States,*  The Slayage Conference on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, sponsored by Middle Tennessee State University, will bring BtVS scholars and serious fans from 39 states and 7 countries to the Renaissance Hotel over the 2004 Memorial Day weekend to present papers on all aspects of the series. Those not wishing to present papers are, of course, welcome to attend the Slayage Conference as well.

After an opening reception at 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 27th, the SCBtVS will offer three days of fascinating forays into Buffy Studies. A banquet is planned for Friday evening.

Conference attendees will hear as well from four keynote speakers: James South, editor of Buffy and Philosophy: Fear and Loathing in Sunnydale, Nancy Holder, co-author of The Watcher Guides, Sue Turnbull, author of Bite Me: Narrative Structures and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and David Bianculli, The New York Daily News television critic. Featured speakers include Rhonda V. Wilcox, David Lavery, John Pungente, S. J., Jana Riess, Gerry Bloustien, and Michael Adams.

An onsite All Things Buffy store will be run by Hastings Entertainment Superstores. A conference poster, created by graphic design students at the Watkins College of Art and Design, a coffee mug, and t-shirts will also be available.

The vibrant city of Nashville is within driving distance of 1/2 the population of the United States, and with a guaranteed rate of only $95 a night at one of Nashville's premiere hotels, conference participants will want to come early and stay late, enjoying all that Nashville in the Spring has to offer outside the Buffyverse. The conference conveners have arranged a bus tour (on Monday, May 31st) to Memphis (about 230 miles away), which will include stops at Beale Street, The Civil Rights Museum, and, of course, Graceland. Go here to learn more about it. If you want to reserve a seat, e-mail us at memphis@slayage.tv

Come out and slay! Join us in Nashville.
