| FR-7 | Stories for all ages

| FR-13 | Minor language/violence. Suitable for those under 13

| FR-15 | Increase of bad language/sexual innuendo/violence. Not suitable for anyone under 13

| FR-18 | More of everything. Explicit language, violence and sex. Not meant for those under 13

| FR-21 | Top of the line when it comes to sex, violence & nasty language. Could also include graphic torture (S&M), Female/Female and/or Male/Male relationships, PWP's and possibly anything else not found in FR-18 rating's. Only suitable for those that are 18 and over

Fanfic Terms


If you aren't sure what certain terms mean, here is a short guide to help you understand.

Canon vs. non-canon - canon is an event which can be seen in the show, non canon is something invented by the fans.

UC - similar idea. UC stands for unconventional and usually applies to relationships. UC couples can be either m/m, f/f or f/m, as long as they don't appear together in the show.

Het vs. slash - het is just an abbrieviation of heterosexual, and can be canon, or non canon. Slash implies same sex relationships, like Spike and Xander or Angel and Oz.

Fluff - Refers to a fic where everything goes perfectly right for the couple of choice.

Smut - Term used in adult fic to imply sex scenes.

PWP - Porn Without Plot or Plot? What Plot? Stories consisting only of a sex scene with no plot to it.

UST - unresolved sexual tension.

AU - alternative universe.

Conventional Couple - A couple that actually has appeared on the show, like Buffy/Angel or Xander/Cordelia.

Futurefic - Story set in the future

POV - Point Of View. Stories written in first person.

'Ship - Relationship - a couple on the show, or an UnConventional couple.

Spoilers - Information about an episode you haven't seen yet, which gives away major plot lines or the ending of the episode.

Songfic - A story based on a song which is written in the fic

WIP - Work In Progress. A story that isn't finished and that's posted either to a website or a mailing list one chapter at the time, as they're written.
