Jewel Staite Updates Her Blog For July (11 July 2006)

Jewel Staite has updated her blog at Jewel Staite.net and here's what she had to say:

I'm back in Vancouver now, having finally finished the Tribe. I feel like I've been on that movie since 2002. I am so exhausted and so spent, I don't know how I'm going to be able to lift this martini to my lips.

It was a success, for the most part, but definitely not without it's trials and tribulations. For the last week in Costa Rica we got rained on so badly, we were unable to finish shooting until the production hired workers to come in and fit the jungle with giant tarps to keep the rain out. It was muddy and cold and wet, and since were were doing night shoots at the end, dark and scary, too, with God-knows-what lurking at our ankles while we made the trek from our hotel rooms to the set every evening. But, shockingly enough, we survived relatively unscathed (a few scratches and very frightening bug bites, complete with larvae and the like—no, I'm not joking, and thank you, heaven, for not letting it happen to me), and then continued on to LA to finish the remainder of the movie.

I managed to jinx myself every morning by saying, "well, the worst is over, now it's just the fun stuff!" We shot on a boat for the better part of a week, swaying and going green for twelve hours at a time, trying to get a shot with no boat traffic in the background so it actually looked like we were properly "lost and deserted". Then we moved on to the sound stage to film the sequences in the caves, complete with real rats and real boa constrictors (can you say heart attack?), and then, mercifully, it was over.

But I will say this: I had no idea I could do all that I've done! I've conquered a lot of fears and proved to myself that I'm one tough cookie when I need to be. This coming from a girl who wouldn't ride a bike for fear of falling... major breakthroughs, here. I feel like Wonder Woman! (Joss, are you reading this?) Seriously though, I won't lie: it was an absolute bitch, and I had no idea it was going to be as hard as it was, but I'm thinking that because we all worked so hard, it'll pay off in the long run somehow. I cannot wait to see it all cut together, especially the final fight sequence, which took us three days to shoot.

I'm in this headspace right now where I'm contentedly letting go of the control I have over my own destiny. Sometimes I find myself stressing about the future too much, worrying about tomorrow when I'm not finished with today yet, punishing myself for something I can't help... and lately I've come to realize that it's not up to me. All I can do is do the best job I can and work really hard and be who I want to be, and the rest is up to the universe, which is strangely comforting.

I am SO happy to be home with all the little conveniences of life that I missed while I was away in Costa Rica (a big grocery store with all my favorite snacks right across the street, clean water and pinot grigio), and back with my family in my own bed. It is the most wonderful feeling to come home after being away for so long. I have a whole new appreciation for things like puppy breath and my husband's dirty socks and cooking my own meals. Funny what you miss, huh?

I'm off to Toronto, though, next weekend, because it will be my first-ever Canadian convention called Ti-Con. I was asked at the last minute and thought, what the hell? so I'm taking my best friend and we're going to have some fun.

After that, who knows?

love Jewel

Joss Whedon Posts on Serenity Day (1 July 2006)

Joss Whedon recently posted on Whedonesque in response to his many birthday wishes and the Serenity Now/Equality Now screenings. Here's what he said:

The Claw of Doom. It's coming. And it can't be stopped. But anyway...

Sorry I don't have a link, and about that whole claw mislead -- the claw isn't actually coming, it's resting peacefully. (The Beak of Waking Up Really Cranky is, however, on the move.)

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say, yes I AM interested in meeting, your web-photos are pretty intoxicating, so E-mail me at VikingPrincess3.org and please make sure absolutely no one finds out about... ah, which site is this? Hmmm. 'Kay. Uh, that was a joke, like the claw thing. This is the "Thank you" message. I got it now.

Thank you. All. First, for all your birthday wishes, which meant a lot to my spectacularly old self. (Special kudos to the person who pointed out that I am now old enough to order a drink twice over, as I have quoted that extensively, and also had more drinks.) I had a very nice birthday and feel terribly well-preserved, 'cept for that damn knee. I saw my friends and destroyed my enemies, so it was a mellow day. And all your wishes were read and appreciated.

But the second "Thank You" is obviously for the screenings, and everyone's involvement. Apparantly there is only One True B!x and we should stop worshipping false B!x's (I had a golden B!x calf that was SO cute, but it's e-bay bound). What an achievement. I wish I could have been at one, but destroying my enemies is time-consuming (and where the @#$% do I hide Goddard's body? He's ENORMOUS!). I got an E-mail from Jessica Neuwirth, who was of course thrilled and grateful for the whole thing. It's by your efforts that my movie has become inexorably linked to such a vital, under-recognized cause, and so y'all should be frantically patting yourselves on the backs. Thank you. It matters. Plus, fun!

I have lurked, but I've restrained myself from yakkin' 'cause I didn't feel right about it while the official, no-really-I-mean-it-this-time first draft of Wonder Woman was unfinished. But I'm posting now. Hmmm, what could that mean?

Well, I gotta go. Or, sit right here but type other stuff. Many many thanks, or as Morena Baccarin would say, "Huh?"

Yours Gratefully, VikingPrincess3.

Jewel Staite Updates her Blog from Costa Rica (9 June 2006)

Jewel Staite is currently filming Thge Tribe in Costa Rica and she has shared the highlights and lowlights on her blog at www.jewelstaite.net. Here's what she had to say:

Greetings from Costa Rica, land of rice and beans:

You'll have to excuse my punctuation.. There's something wrong with the computer keys at this hotel and it keeps trying to give me a little Ñ every time I try to put anything besides a period in my sentence. So no, I'm not drunk, just in the middle of nowhere.

I started off in New Zealand about a month and a bit ago (what day is it?), which was green and lush and gorgeous, and I had a great time with the New Zealand browncoats—to the guy who gave me the moonshine, thanks, and kudos to the double usage, it makes a great nail polish remover! After that, I flew to Sydney for a week and had a blast flitting around the city in my new slouchy boots (Aussies love skinny jeans and boots, I've discovered), dancing till dawn and eating chips every day. The convention went off without a hitch, the fans were lovely, and the questions some of the most original I've ever had, i.e. what was my first kiss like? and can we take a picture of your cleavage? and if you were on a deserted island, who would you want with you and why? (remember what we agreed, guys.. a secret's a secret, and I better not hear a thing about Justin Timberlake on those message boards)

Then, after a deliriously exhausted and semi tearful goodbye to my husband at the airport, I boarded the longest flight of my life to Costa Rica, where I was to start work the next morning. I met the cast, who are all wonderfully insane—Nikki Griffin, Kellan Lutz, Justin Baldoni, and Marc Bacher—, did a rehearsal and a wardrobe fitting, applied self-tanner, then promptly went to bed to wake up for my 4 AM call. The first week was shot at the beach in a national park with every single creature you could imagine: snakes, salt water crocs, monkeys, lizards, sharks, jellyfish... I honestly wouldn't have been surprised to see a unicorn waltz out of the jungle, it was that surreal. Our hotel is going to go down in history as one of the strangest I've ever stayed at, with howler monkeys moaning and groaning outside my cabin windows at all hours of the night, a persistent and cuddly cockroach snuggled up in my bed, a giant gecko watching over me on the wall while I slept... you get the picture. For those of you that know me, you know how much I had to swallow to endure this with optimism. But hey. That's what you get for shooting in the wild, and eventually I just sucked it up and embraced it.

Then came the Green River. We shot in what looked like a shanty town, with kids sitting on the sidewalks, horses tied up to store fronts, basically the kind of town you want to purchase just so you can save everyone from it and burn it to the ground. Notice I'm calling it Green River and not by it's real name, since I don't want to offend anyone who may be from there, like Satan. But the actual jungle location we shot in was spectacular, and just could not be duplicated anywhere else—everything was literally green, from the rocks to the massive trees surrounding the set... it was breathtaking. But dangerous. Lots of creepy crawlies hiding under things (the medic actually found a very pissed off viper about to attack and had to, um, decapitate it to save his own life—the glamour of the movie biz!), huge spiders, beautiful neon colored flying thingies and TONS of mosquitoes... but we got through it.

After that, we came to our last location, where we are now, a beautiful little Italian hotel with jungle along its perimeter that seems like Shangri-La after all we've been through. There's a nice spa, a bunch of cute walking trails, a bird sanctuary, a garden where they grow their own vegetables, a casino... I'm happy as a clam. Almost. Clams don't really know what they're missing anyway. We started doing the really intense stuff, most of our stunt work and fight sequences, which unfortunately take place at night, so there's been a lot of things to endure... and it of course won't stop raining, it being the rainy season and all. My husband showed up a few days ago and brought some peace and serenity with him, and US magazine (how I've missed you, Brangelina!!) so I'm not as homesick as I was. We have about a week left to get everything we need from this location, and then a few days off so I can go home and get some Teddy cuddles, and then it's on to LA to finish up shooting.

I've learned a lot about myself on this shoot, to say the least. When Matt got here he was absolutely astounded at what I've become, what with the scabs on my arms from various wipe outs, bruised knees, no make up, a dirty t-shirt and a Jansen backpack instead of my regular Juicy couture... but change is good, and discovering you could do things you never thought possible is even better. I feel like a warrior woman!! I'm insanely tired, and I honestly don't know how I'm going to get through the next few nights, but after this shoot is over, I'm going to feel invincible. It's nice to know I'm not as much of a wimp as I thought!

To get more info on the movie you can check out www.thetribemovie.blogspot.com Our EPK guy (who takes care of the special features on the DVD and such) has been keeping an almost daily blog and taking lots of photos as we've been going along. Kinda cool to see it all unfolding in such a personal way.

Wish me luck and I'll write again soon.

love Jewel

Jewel Staite Updates her Blog (14 April 2006)

Jewel Staite has updated her blog at www.jewelstaite.net. She talks, holdiays, conventions, new movie and getting nominated for an award. Here's what she said:

Here I am! I'm still alive! Just lazy and afraid of reporting the monotonous, like more traveling and more shopping. But then I realized, if you're reading this, chances are you've read my other letters to poor Roj and absolutely love the inanity of my shopping expeditions and are very interested in knowing how many air miles I plan to accumulate!

So here goes. Maui, back in February/early March, was wonderful, warm, relaxing, beautiful, etc etc. Two weeks spent lying on the beach, contemplating life, love, and where the best mai tai can be had (the Front Street Bar, in Lahaina, serves the BEST one on the island—trust me, I know: I tried several). What's funny about Maui is that you get so relaxed, so comfortable, so blissfully care-free, that you actually start looking to create problems just so you can feel normal again. The guilt sets in after week one, when you've done everything there is to do on the island, you've eaten yourself glutinous, you've shopped, you've sailed, you've whale watched... I got that itch in me that told it me it was time to work again, time to use up some of those creative juices and get the ball rolling. So the minute we got home, we planned a trip to LA to get back into the swing of things (sick of cliches yet?) and set off for a month.

But, work wasn't all that was on my mind, of course. LA is one of my favorite places to eat out, to go out, to see the people I never get to see anymore, so a lot of it was just more vacationing. Funny how I manage to work a vacation into everything I do. We ate at Hamasaku, that sushi place I'm always raving about, and on their new menu is a new roll named after yours truly! It's called something like the Great Canadian Jewel, which sounds like a cruise ship, but whatever. I love cruises, and the roll is awesome. We also saw Alan Tudyk for a night out, who always manages to give me the worst hangover of my life the next day but I love him, and we saved Santa Monica (life guard tower was on fire, we called 911, we're heroes). We had a great lunch with Gina Torres and gossiped over pinot and omelettes at the Chateau Marmont, which was my second home last year any time I was in town promoting Serenity—they have great fries. And we saw Morena (Baccarin) several times, once for a wine tasting and an amazing Italian dinner in Los Feliz, once for steaks at Taylor's in Korea town (AWESOME cheeseburgers), and once she even cooked us dinner and baked a cake, and it was actually edible and we didn't die from it. Anyway, it was really nice to see everybody who was in town, but now I kind of miss them all over again.

On to the work side of things: I've signed on to do a movie called The Tribe, and how they're pitching it is Lost meets Predator. Kind of weird, I know, but the script is great, and I get to do lots of action sequences and fun stuff like getting chased by scary things in the jungle (won't tell you what scary things). It's going to be probably the most demanding thing I've ever done; I'm in literally every scene except a couple, which I haven't done yet, and there's a ton of stunts and running for my life... but I'm always up for an adventure, so it should be a lot of fun. The next time I write will probably be from my hotel in Costa Rica, where the film will be shot, and I'm sure I'll have all kinds of stories to tell you by then. Hopefully not about snakes in my toilet or anything. Not so wild about the snakes.

Also, I'm sure this is floating around the internet somewhere, but for those of you who don't know, I've signed on to do a convention called Armageddon in Wellington, New Zealand, on the 29th of April, and another one called The Hub in Sydney, Australia on May 6th and 7th. After that, I literally fly straight to Costa Rica to begin filming, which means I'll be out of my mind with jetlag and wondering where the hell I am at that point, but I am SO excited to be going 'down undah' finally, and meeting a whole new group of Browncoats. I'm also going back to the UK for the next Starfury convention in September, and I can confirm that I'll be back in LA for the Flanvention in December as well. So get your party shoes on!

And for all of you Stargate: Atlantis fans, I just found out I've been nominated for a Gemini for my episode "Instinct". The Geminis are sort of the equivelant to the Canadian Golden Globe, and I'm absolutely thrilled. (so far, this month has rocked the socks)

To top it all off, on the 25th, Matty and I are celebrating our third wedding anniversary. I don't think we're at the point where we should be giving out marital advice, but I will say this: when he decides to make you a grilled cheese and he never cooks, let him... and even though it's the worst damn grilled cheese you have ever had, and he's put mayo and mustard and God knows what else on it and it's greasy and weird and stinks? Kiss him and say thank you.

Have a great rest of the month, and I'll write again soon.

Jewel

Joss Whedon Posts On Sam Loeb Comic Panel (23 March 2006)

Joss Whedon recently attended a panel at Wizard World with a host of other comic writers who will be completing a comic in memory of the late Sam Loeb (see previous news item). On his return he posted about it on Whedonesque. Here's what he said:

Sam Loeb and (a bunch of) The 26. A quick report from the frontlines -- of awesome!

Slid into Wizard World L.A. today to sit in on the panel for the upcoming comic by Sam Loeb and The 26 (reported on here earlier, don't ask me to link, I frighten easily.) On the panel, the very kings of comics: Jeph Loeb, Michael Turner, Tim Sale, Geoff Johns, Jim Lee, Pat Lee, Alan Heinberg, Rob Liefeld, splendiferous me, and more guys whom I either didn't know or were too far away to see. It's the most comics greatness to assemble in one room since Alan Moore sat very quietly by himself. Ironic, then, that the room should be so small and unpopulated. It was like the Avengers announcing their new line up -- to the Defenders. Really. I think we could have taken the audience in a tug-of-war. But the feeling was good, and the book looks great. Fun how all those different artists capture different ways of looking at Batty Jr and Li'l Supes, but what surprised even me was how the writers, without ever conferring or even knowing each other's parts, all seemed to find the same voice. Then I realized: It's Sam's voice. So no wonder.

Anyway, thanks to those who came. The book comes out in April.

(That thing I said about Moore --- didn't someone say that about Thomas Jefferson once? Oh well. If I don't mention it no one will notice.)

Oh, and I turned in a script for something. I can't remember what.

Joss Whedon Comments on Nathan Fillion's SCi-Fi Wire Interview (23 March 2006)

After reading Nathan Fillion's recent interview with Sci-Fi Wire where he commented on his feelings about Firefly becoming a movie, ("... For me it was sweet, sweet revenge, served cold"), Joss Whedon had this to say on Whedonesque:

"Revenge for Nathan and redemption for Adam. That’s them in a nutshell. I remember talking to everyone about it...

For me, it was recrudescence.

For Summer, a kind of rebirth.

Morena said it was a rebellion.

Sean thought it was pretty much a rehash.

Alan said it was almost like a rebar through the chest.

Ron: just a rerun.

Jewel thought it was a rehearsal, which explains all those retakes.

Gina really enjoyed "Reanimator".

Joss Whedon Accepts Film Focus Award (24 February 2006)

Joss Whedon recently accepted his Film Foucs award for film of the year and here's what he said:

Woohoo!

IN YOUR FACE... OTHER FILMS!

I just wanna say that I slept with a lot of people to get this award and they were all very gentle and cuddled...

God bless you, FilmFocus staff, for being cuddlers.

I’ve worked on this for so many years so I really appreciate this award. It’s why I did it.

Well, I mean, not for this. I didn’t say,

’God, I’ve got to win a FilmFocus Award - I know! I’ll make a movie of Firefly!’

But my only motivation was that people would get it and get a kick out of it.

And this means a lot because there were a lot of movies I really liked this year. Unlike a lot of previous years.

But no! Serenity beats them all! Sweet!

When Nathan won a Saturn he came around to my house wearing it around his neck, putting his chest forward so I’d see and said, ’Oh, I’m sorry, I completely forgot I was wearing it!’

So now... Payback!"

- JOSS WHEDON

Warren Ellis and Joss Whedon in Wit War (22 February 2006)

Warren Ellis, comic writer with credits such as Glovbal Frequency and Planetary (with John Cassady) recently posted on his official website blog his dislike of Comicon, making a lighthearted dig about Browncoats in the process. This prompted a response from Joss Whedon himself which turned into an online wit war. Read the comments below - or for the full blog (including comments from others) go to www.warrenellis.com.

Original post by Warren: The Long March To Nerd Prom Begins
Filed under: about comics — warrenellis @ 9:46 pm

Every hotel room in southern California was booked within eighteen femtoseconds of the San Diego Comics Convention reservations webpage being uploaded. That’s it, people. If you didn’t get your booking confirmed within eighteeen femtoseconds of the starting pistol, you’re screwed. Because there are one hundred thousand hungry people out there who need to attend San Diego Comics Convention in order to walk right past all that comics shit and go straight to sniffing Brandon Routh’s cricketbox, sending bits of themselves to the cast of SERENITY and masturbating ferociously in the men’s stalls while wearing V FOR VENDETTA masks and discounted Hulk Hands.

No, of course I’m not going.

Nerd Prom: It Begins Now. Never forget.

Response from Joss: Joss Whedon Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 12:39 am

Who is this Ellis guy anyway? He thinks he all that cuz he wroted “Planety”. The facts is, KomiKon is AWESOME becuz people dress up like stuff — but nobody dresses like Warner Ellis, I guess, mister sour grapes. I talked to Sumner Glou and she said nobody ever mailed her body parts except for one time an arm and then a messenger brought her a thyroid gland but big deal, SERENDIPITY fans happen to be the most tastefullest fans who have extra or redundant body parts.

The best thing about Comicvention is the girls are pretty and the younglings are pretty (is that a legal issue?) and the men is pretty when they are Jedi but not so much Sith. I like to meet the Comedy Books artists (Not everyone wants to meet Angelina Michelle Watts, you know) and to buy a picture of an elf or dragon already. So stay off this grumpity webcamsite becuz Warner Ellis is just a grouchypants! I met a real General Griefuss, who amongst you can say that?

Peace, dog.

Joss Whedon Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 12:44 am

Altho that hulk hands thing was me. Sorry. Romulan Ale.

warrenellis Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 1:03 am

..see, that could actually BE Joss…

Or possibly Steven E McDonald.

warrenellis Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 3:38 pm

Nope, turns out that was Joss. I mention this to settle down the dozens of people clicking here from Whedonesque.

There will, of course, be revenge.

Joss Whedon Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 5:31 pm

Revenge, eh? So, mister Ellis — (swishes brandy in large glass) — let the games begin, unless they are games of skill, or physical exertion of any kind, or with math. I know the bitter bitter truth, why you are so threatened by my genius, my, class, my big glass of brandy. It’s because you’re so OLD, so terribly terribly OLD, isn’t it! Mountains were hills when you were middle-aged. I hear you left your wife for a younger, trophy Cromagnon. And that you’re… that a young person would find you strange, and… from many years of… you being… DAMN! This round to you, Ellis. But the game is far –(drains Brandy, gasps like beached whale) — from over.

warrenellis Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 5:50 pm

I am twenty years younger than Joss Whedon.

Also, HE cannot hide things in his beard.

…of course, he can pay people to do that for him now. He can even pay people to grow the beard for him. And he doesn’t have to run his own website to look big and clever on the internets.

Ah, shit.

Joss Whedon Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 6:07 pm

All right, Ellis, I am a couple of decades older than you. Touche. But you don’t know all of it. Jeph Loebi-Wan never told you the truth about your father…

Yes. You’re my youngling. Oh for chrissake, everybody knows it but you! Even my beard-growers speak of it freely! Now join me and together we can rule an infintisinimimmsally tiny portion of the galaxy and have a mildly amusing interweb flame war! If you only knew the power of the Hack Side! Join me. Seriously. I’ll cut off your other hand, you pansy.

warrenellis Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 6:30 pm

Every time you say “youngling”, I throw up in my mouth a little bit. And look around to see if John Munch from SVU is in the room.

Look, everybody. Joss and Warren are avoiding writing.

Joss Whedon Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 6:39 pm

Are you kidding? This is the most writing I’ve done in months.

(Warner Brothers execs don’t come here, do they?)

warrenellis Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 7:15 pm

Good god, man. Why would Warner Bros execs want to be anywhere near me? Back when we were doing GLOBAL FREQUENCY I used to hear them slip the condom over the phone before they even spoke to me.

I’m going to start a rumour that you’re attending San Diego dressed as Wonder Woman.

And that they will know you by your beard.

Joss Whedon Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 7:26 pm

Okay, can nobody type any more words that end in ‘gasm’? I makes me feel not so good.

The truth is, Ellis is just afraid to say what this is REALLY about. Cassaday. Right, Ellis? He’s drawing Planety AND Admonishing X-mens (now with 17% more Wolverine!) and you hate me for it. You’ve always been jealous — you started your book just to steal him from me — which was idiotic since I didn’t meet him till several years after! Ha! Seriously, Warner, we’re tearing little Johnny apart. Let’s bury the hatchet. Come to the Con with me. Yes, you can dress like Puffy YumiAmi or whatever that thing is you have that outfit of. We’ll have a blast. I’m buyin’ the lead-based food that you have to wait four hours in line for and then rips out of your stomach like you’re John Hurt, and I’ll even buy you a comic. Plus I hear Brandon Routh might be there! He’s dreamy.

Joss Whedon Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 7:29 pm

Wow, we both went right to the cross-dressing humor! This is just like the Algonquin round table, except there’s only two of us, and no table, and no particular surfeit of wit, and no great certainty about how spell ‘Algonquin’. Huzzah!

warrenellis Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 7:34 pm

When Cassaday masturbates at night in that cell under Joe Quesada’s house HE STILL SAYS MY NAME NOT YOURS MINE MINE MINE

cough.

Astronomical X-Cash is a very popular book, and I like that Johnny has enough money now for things like hair products and food.

And it’s a Sailor Moon suit, you bastard. Because I hear Brandon Routh is into that. And possibly Nathan Fillion.

The last time I was at San Diego, I saw a porn star being bitched out by a midget pimp. Who was not a pimp of midgets, but a midget who was also a pimp.

Your tv show FIREFOX should have had midget pimps in it.

Is that a guy from The CW I see over there?

warrenellis Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 7:35 pm

I tell you, we should be putting the word “wit” in inverted commas, before the EFF come after us for intarwub fraud or something…

Joss Whedon Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 7:40 pm

“Anglosaxon X-tracrispy” happens to be ART, you slug, unlike “Globular Frequenting”.

But the Cassaday thing is true. Joe says it’s freaking his kids out.

warrenellis Says:
February 16th, 2006 at 7:46 pm

I dunno why Joe doesn’t just put the cock-gag back in young Cassaday’s mouth. It muffles the noise, and I think he got to quite like it.

And it’s all he deserves for flouncing off with some poncy Hollywood type to go and draw Anaesthetic X-Wipes.

I should have given him more barely-contained breasts and large shiny Russian gay porn stars to draw.

Oh, God.

I’m so alone.

Hold me.

Joss Whedon Says:

Joss Whedon Stops Firefly Rumours (19 February 2006)

Posting on Whedonesque for the second time in as many days, Joss Whedon stopped by to halt rumours of a Firefly revival before they got out of hand (apparantly agents had been a-calling). The rumours had been sparked by a couple of postings by Kirstin at E-Online indicating that the newly formed CW Network may be in talks to get more Firefly on the screen. Adding more amusing links and tags here's what Joss said (only to be accused of procrastinating no less!!):

"This explains Joss perfectly. Finally, a site that SAYS something.

Abusing links is the only way I know how to live. But I am here with a purpose, my friends. Call me joss Whedon: Rumor Crusher! (Or "Mister Fendendo", if we're being intimate.)

Since everyone's all abuzz with the CW rumor, I have to get all official and say: WE'VE STARTED FILMING NEW EPISODES! Of Dateline. I'm such a troll.

No, there haven't been any overtures from the CW as regards a SereniFly spin-off. I haven't even heard the orchestra tuning up. But if they happen to come calling, I do know what I would do:

1) In order to keep the show cost efficient, we would get rid of a few things we don't need, like spaceships, floors, and Jewel. (You thought I was gonna say 'costumes', didn't you? Porn guy.)

2) Nathan is busy making movies, but since I don't want new cast members, everybody in the cast would just move over one. Jewel (she's back!) would play Mal, Ron would play Kaylee, Morena would play Book, and so on.

3) People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy.

4) The actors can make up their dialogue. I'm bushed, and they're all funny, and the hell with it. Maybe I'll give them a premise to work off of, like "You're all in trouble" or "Wash has a thing". They could maybe light it too.

5) Klingons, but not alien Klingons. But still Klingons.

So already the show is running like a well oiled companion. I'm just proud to be a part of the Country Western network, and I know this will be their biggest hit since "Have Space-Gun, Will Travel."

I hope, as always, this clears things up. And I hope the executives at the Carnie Wilson network DO give me a call. I've got a million ideas for redoing their offices.

Power to the people who are powerful enough to crush the other people! -jossy.

Joss Posts On Whedonesque (14 February 2006)

Joss Whedon popped into Whedonesque to keep us all updated on his latest projects in his typical witty style. Using the Google homepage as a link (for those who don't know, in order to start a thread on whedonesque you must link to a relevant news item/website) and adding a Spolier marker the tag words: " ferns, the love of a good woman, water sports, dodecahedrons, joss post" here's what he had to say:

"(SPOILER) This place can look up stuff! It's crazy! I totally know about John sweden from this website!

Seriously, what up? I'm pounding the keys (as opposed to staring at them, thank God) on my Amazon movie (which is totally my own idea and not somebody else's from a comic) called Wondrous Lady. Problem: third act. Solution: Cooking class! Yep, I've still got it.

Roll call:

Spike movie! Still trying.
Buffy comics! Wrote ish one, fun fun fun. Looking for a penciller.
Serenity comics: Brett and I have been very very busy and it's rude of you to bring it up. But it's gonna be tight!
Serenity sequel! My phone is silent and withdrawn.
Wondy Gal! It's all about momentum, baby. And cooking class.
Goners! Ready to polish after WW is complete. LOVED the speculation on the character Mia's name. Can't wait to hear what you all say about Violet. (Besides the fact that she is not in any way ultra.)
How I Met Your Mother! I'm truly addicted. "Don't be a hero, Sherbotsky!" Come ON, people!
Jack Green! He shot my two favorite movies last year. Crazy props!
Cheese! Why won't it stop flirting with me?

Okay, bastard people, I'm gone like a thing that's not so much here as elsewhere. Remember me.

-me.

New Show for Tim Minear (14 February 2006)

Tim Minear has created a new show, Drive, the pilot for which has been picked up by Fox, of all networks. Posting at Buffistas, here's what Tim had to say about it:

Okay, so now I can mention, my pilot got picked up today. Go team.
Okay, the show is called "Drive." The network is, um, Fox. And it’s a big, sprawling, ensemble that is utterly serialized. In the pilot, for instance, there are... let me count... about 16 possibly regular characters.
Which means I got me some killin’ to do.

Here's hoping Tim gets to run a full series for once.

Tony Head To Record Two Songs for Him and Us (14 February 2006)

In a message to his official website, Anthony Stewart Head revealed that he would be recording two tracks for his new sitcom, Him and Us. Here's what he said:

"As always, Liz and I are at pains not to provide misleading information on this website and therefore choose to wait until jobs are confirmed before announcing them - sorry if this is frustrating for those of you who have caught a wiff of something going down. "Him and Us" has been a while in coming to the boil but it is now a done deal. It is a single camera, half-hour comedy for Touchstone/ABC (same sort of format as Sex and the City - no canned laughter) and I co-star as an iconic gay rock star who is extremely high maintenance for his long suffering manager. I’m laying down vocals on two tracks written by Elton John for the pilot - he’s an executive producer. Updates to follow."

Joss & Nathan' Final Posts on the Universal Board (8 January 2006)

Just prior to the Universal Serenity Posting Board closing Joss Whedon and Nathan Fillion posted their final messages. Here's what they said:

Posted: 30 Dec 2005 11:32 am
Post subject: Good Night and Good GOD there's something on my leg!
Ahh! Spider! Spider!

No wait. Lint.

Ahh! Lint! Malevolent lint!

Oookay, where was I? Um, time of sadness... transition... live forever in our hearts....

Sorry, I want this post to be really special, I'm just going through my notes. Be with you guys in a sec.

Ahhh... done the improbable... joke about dolphins... majestic DVD art... OH! Hey! Here we go:

Thanks a bunch.

Cool. I thought that went well. Some sentiment, but not maudlin... quality post. The one to go out on, if nobody notices my irrational fear of lint. I think the Browncoats will gain strength from my timely message, or from working out regularly. Anyway, my heart will go on. My liver's a house of cards, though, I kid you not.

Callous? Who said that? Maybe you're callous, mister TROLL! I'm not callous. I got the same feeling when I heard the board was closing down as every one else. But I'm old. Really, really old. Like, Keanu Reeves Old. (God, he's well preserved.) So I've seen this before. The Bronze. The Angelix. The Portly Norwegian Bondage House. All come and gone. What remains? Only two things. The first is Homestar Runner. Go Homestar! Teen Girl Squad! Let's get ready to look SOO GOOD!

The second, guess what, is love.

No flying lessons, don't worry, but what we get from the shows, the films, and the time on these boards -- from each other -- just can't get shut down. You guys gave me so much hope and support... and I gave you a movie so, you know, advantage me. But still. What this place was is sweet, what it will always be is treasured.

I got props for the Uni's for putting this up -- oh, and for making my damn (excuse me, BIG damn) movie. All things must pass. We'll find each other again, especially if any of you are portly, Norwegian and 'open-minded'.

I'll do my best to tell stories that cause as much trouble as this one did. And if I ever get the chance to return to this one... in case it was ever unclear due to shoddy journalism, sign me right the hell up.

You guys are the best crew flying.

Thanks a bunch.

-j.

And Nathan's reply:

Chris Buchanan Posts on Prospero Forums (8 January 2006)

Chris Buchanaon (Execuitive Producer of Serenity), posted on the Prospero Forums about the prospect of any sequels on the back of the DVD sales. Here's what he said.

Happy 2006!

Unfortunately, I can’t really comment on the PTB’s reaction to the DVD release. Executives are notoriously tightlipped about DVD sales numbers for a variety of reasons. What I can tell you is that I’ve heard several great anecdotal reports from retail about strong DVD/PSP sales, as well as, the obvious success we’ve had on Amazon.

The important thing to remember is that there is no “magic” sequel number at this point. What we do on DVD will, hopefully, be a conversation starter. (E.g. “Would it be worthwhile to do a sequel, or a direct-to-DVD movie or a super special edition DVD, etc.? At what budget? Hmmmm, let me crunch the numbers and mull that over before my next 2007 budget meeting.”) In other words, it’s a wait and see situation, where the “wait” will be longer than we had hoped prior to the theatrical release.

Now, more than ever, keep flyin’!

Best,

Buchanan
