DAWN: Buffy, it hurts ...
BUFFY: I got it... Come here, you're gonna be... okay ...
(A few drops of Dawn's blood drip over the edge. In midair they meet something, and a small circle of light appears, quickly growing. Dawn hesitates.)
BUFFY: Go!
DAWN: Buffy, it's started.

DAWN: I'm sorry...
BUFFY: It doesn't matter. What are you doing?
DAWN: I have to jump. The energy --
BUFFY: It'll kill you!
DAWN: I know. Buffy, I know about the ritual! I have to stop it.
BUFFY: No!
DAWN: I have to! Look at what's happening!
(A dragon emerges from the rift)
DAWN: Buffy, you have to let me go! Blood starts it, and until the blood stops flowing it'll never stop. You know you have to let me ... It has to have the blood ...
(flashback to:)
SPIKE: 'Cause it's always gotta be blood
(flashback to:)
BUFFY: Summers blood. It's just like mine.
(flashback to:)
BUFFY: She's me, the monks made her out of me.
(flashback to:)
Spirit Guide: Death is your gift.
BUFFY: Death?
Spirit Guide: *is* your gift.
(back to present)
DAWN: Buffy... no!
BUFFY: Dawnie... I have to --
DAWN: NO!
BUFFY: Listen to me! Please, there's not a lot of time, listen.
(we see her talking to Dawn, but don't hear. Then she turns and swan dives. We start to hear what she said to Dawn, over images of Dawn crying, Spike, Giles, Xander, Anya, Willow, &Tara discovering Buffy's body in the rubble.)

BUFFY: (V. O.) Dawn listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will *always* love you. This is the work I have to do. Tell Giles... Tell Giles I figured it out. And... I'm okay. Give my love to my friends. You have to take care of them now -- you have to take care of each other. You have to be strong. Dawn, the hardest thing in this world is to live in it. Be brave. Live. For me.
(cut to Buffy's grave stone)
