<Episode 123: Lessons>

Dawn's first day of high school on the hellmouth.

Plot Highlights:

In Istanbul, a girl runs, but is captured by mysterious robed figured. Buffy coaches Dawn in vamp-slayage. In England, Giles and Willow chat. Xander arrives to take Dawn to school. Buffy & Dawn meet the new principal. Buffy sees dead people, runs into Dawn's class. Halfrek accuses Anya of going soft. Buffy fetches Xander. Dawn sees dead people, goes to the bathroom and meets Kit. They fall through the floor. Willow senses evil. Buffy runs into Principal Wood again. Kit & Dawn meet Carlos, and more dead people. Dawn calls Buffy. Buffy fights past dead people, but finds Spike instead of Dawn. Spike babbles, Dawn calls, Buffy arrives in time to save the day, w/ help from Xander. Principal Wood offers Buffy a job. Mysterious Morphing Evil Thing taunts Spike and exposits vaguely about Big Evil Things to come.

Memorable Moments:

• Sad Willow and Wise Giles chatting in England ("I wanna be Willow.")
• Halfrek impugning Anya's will to Venge, Anya trying to defend herself on the frog/French job.
• The cell phone conversation: Dawn's ecstatic praise of the reception, Principal Wood's buying the dead dog story, and his bemused "good luck with your dog tragedy".
• Buffy meeting BrokenSpike, esp. his explanation of why his chest was all scratched up: "I tried to cut it out".
• Principal Wood offering Buffy a job, especially the "you did hear the part about the money, right?" and "I'm going to be the best principal ever" parts
• The Evil Thing morphing into a representative villain from each season, and finally changing to look like Buffy and repeating the real Buffy's line: It's about power.
