"Deep Down"

Written by: Steven S. DeKnight Original Air Date: October 6, 2002

Connor, Lorne
Angel, Connor, Cordelia, Lorne, Fred, Gunn and Wes are seated around an elegantly appointed holiday table. Angel watches as the others pass the food around.

Cordelia asks if he isn't hungry.

He tells her he is but he just wanted to "freeze the moment", everyone there, safe and together.

Wes offers a toast "to family."

Angel smiles, they all raise their glasses and join in the toast.
Angel toasting
Cordelia notices Angel's glass is empty. She tells him he can't toast with an empty glass as she fills it with water from a pitcher.

Angel wonders if that's bad luck.

Cordelia tells him it's all over, nothing will split them up again and if anything tries, she'll do the glow job thing and kick some ass.

Angel and Cordelia move in for a kiss, Connor wonders if he really has to watch this.

Angel laughs and roughs up Connor's hair.

Connor tells him to be careful, he doesn't want it to look like Angel's.
"Freeze the moment, it'll last forever."
Angel watches as everyone passes around the food, loading their plates, as he gets ignored. Angel grabs a plate as it's passed by and sets it in front of himself. The food on it disappears, leaving him with an empty plate. He knocks his glass of water onto the floor and watches as it shatters. The floor begins to fill with water.
Angel wakes in the crate
Everything turns to a murky blue with a watery reflection.

Angel looks out at the table. Only Connor remains. He suggests Angel "freeze the moment, it'll last forever."

Angel wakes up, still trapped in the crate at the bottom of the ocean ("Tomorrow").

Fred, Gunn get attacked
Gunn and Fred are on the run to Gunn's truck. They get in and drive off.

A vamp jumps on the hood of the truck, smashing the windshield.

Gunn pulls the truck to an abrupt stop, sending the vamp flying off the hood.
Driver vamp confronts Fred, Gunn
A car occupied by more vamps pulls up in front of Gunn's truck, blocking it.

The driver confronts Gunn and Fred who have gotten out of the truck.

Fred is armed with a crossbow, Gunn with his homemade ax.

The driver doesn't like Gunn and Fred in his neighborhood, hassling his friends.

Fred tells him they're just looking for information.

Gunn offers they just want to know where Marissa is, then they'll leave.

The vamp isn't too interested in helping. He thought they were detectives, they should be able to figure it out. He wonders if they're incompetence is due to Angel's disappearance. He moves toward them.
Fred
Fred steps up and aims the crossbow at his chest, telling him they just want to talk to Marissa.

The vamp tells them where to find Marissa, an abandoned building on Figueroa. Everyone starts to walk away.

The vamp has another idea. Fight ensues.

Fred and Gunn dust three of the four vamps.

The last vamp standing throws Gunn's homemade ax at Fred while she struggles to reload the crossbow.
Connor, pleased with his ax skills
Connor jumps in and intercepts the ax in midair, then tosses it back at the vamp, decapitating him with it.

Connor smiles, pleased with himself.

Gunn doesn't look too happy.

Gunn explains things
Gunn, Fred and Connor arrive back at the hotel. Fred reminds him he can't go off on his own like that, they need to work together as a team.

Connor points out the rest of the gang was getting away.

Gunn tells him he should have let them, they're stronger working together.

Connor offers an insincere apology.

Fred says she knows things were different in Quor-toth but he's not there anymore, he has to adjust his way of thinking, he's taken on a huge responsibility now.

Gunn tells him he has to start thinking beyond himself.
Gunn, Connor
Connor acknowledges he understands that, then smiles and notes that the move with the ax was cool.

Gunn smiles and admits it was. He instructs Connor to clean the ax.

Connor doesn't see the point since the vamps are dust, no mess.

Gunn tells him to put two coats of polish on it as he hands it over.

Connor reluctantly takes it and departs to get the job done.
Gunn, Fred ponder what next
As Fred works at the computer, Gunn asks if they're going to tell Connor.

She doesn't want to get his hopes up.

Gunn wonders about Fred getting her own hopes up, pointing out they've been following leads to nothing but dead ends all summer and the only thing they're getting close to is an eviction notice. Gunn thinks things would be easier with Lorne helping out. He asks Fred if she's had any luck reaching him.

She says Lorne is too absorbed in his new life in Las Vegas to care about them.

Gunn wonders if she's tried to call recently.

She assures him she has.
Gunn, Fred
Gunn notes they're about to lose everything, they need to bring in some paying clients.

Fred figures they can do that but they need to find Marissa first. She finds a listing on the computer for a condemned tenement on Figueroa and thinks that may be where they can find the girl.

Gunn suggests the vamp who gave them the initial information may have been lying. He isn't sure Marissa can help them much, even if they do find her.
Connor overhears
Fred reminds him Angel's car was found at the bluffs and since Marissa used to feed in that area, she may know something that can help them.

Connor stands at the doorway and asks who they're looking for.

Angel looks over the bluffsCordelia
Angel stands at the bluffs, looking over the water. He turns to leave, heading back for his car. He finds Cordelia standing next to it.

He tells her he didn't think she would come.

She thinks he knew she would, he knows her better than anyone.

Angel laughs nervously, not sure that's true.

She assures him it is. She notes the beauty of the surroundings.

Angel tells her it's as it should be. He has a flash of what really happened that night. He tells Cordy this isn't the way it went.

She says she likes this version better.

He remembers Connor was there and what was done to him [Angel].
Angel makes a mealAngel, Cordelia
Cordelia extends her hand, strokes his face, tells him she can't remember what it was like not knowing him, "not being close" to him. She tells him she's in love with him, she has been for a long time, she wants him to know that. They kiss.

He tells her he needs her as he vamps out and bites her. He pulls back, apologizes, then bites her again.

Angel wakes in the box, screaming.

FredConnor has questions
At the hotel, Connor wants to know why Gunn and Fred didn't mention Marissa.

Gunn answers they don't even know if she has any useful information.

Fred adds she might have, they're going to talk to her and find out.

Connor plans to go along.

Gunn says no, it's only one vamp, they can deal with it.

Connor reminds Gunn this is about his father, if Marissa has information, he wants to know.
Gunn
Fred tells him to get his weapons and come along.

Connor leaves to arm himself.

Gunn wonders if that's really a good idea.

Fred promises to keep an eye on him

Gunn reminds her getting information is a delicate task and Connor is anything but delicate in his approach.
Fred suggests contacting Wes
Fred doesn't want to be the one to tell him he can't come, she wonders if Gunn has noticed how much Connor is hurting.

Gunn figures it'll be worse if Marissa didn't see anything and can't offer them any help. This is their last lead; no Angel, Cordelia, Holtz or Justine.

Fred offers the possibility of Wolfram & Hart.

Gunn doesn't think that's a useful plan, pointing out W&H are too big, too powerful and they are no match for them. He doesn't think it's wise to get in their faces without Angel there.

Fred suggests asking Wes for help.

Gunn is adamantly opposed to that idea. He doesn't think Wes cares about them.

Fred wonders if that's not partly their own fault.

Gunn tells her Wes made his choice, "now he has to live with it." He walks out.

Wes, LilahWes, Lilah
Lilah collapses on top of Wes as both lie in bed, both spent after having sex.

Wes suggests they explore some things next time.

Lilah wonders why he thinks there will be another time.

He answers she can't resist him.

She suggests the opposite is the more likely truth as she climbs out of bed and starts to dress.
Lilah gets dressed
Wes asks where she's going.

She tells him it's time to go back to work.

Wes notes W&H does its best work after dark.

Lilah says the sun is bad for the skin, suggesting Wes could ask Angel about that but then the whole "trying to smother you with a pillow thing" might be an obstacle to conversation.
Wes
Wes sarcastically notes he would have never thought kidnapping his son would have such a negative impact on their friendship.

Lilah knows Wes thought he was doing the right thing. She has no personal experience with that but imagines it can be a little confusing. She wonders if Wes has tried to talk to Angel.

Wes laughs.

Lilah asks what's funny.

Wes tells her he doesn't know where Angel is or what happened to him, and he doesn't care.

Lilah is impressed with his seeming lack of compassion but she wonders if not knowing doesn't bother Wes just a little.

Wes says that part of his life is gone, he doesn't care about it anymore.
a good-bye kiss
Lilah believes him. She kisses him good-bye and starts to go.
Justine in the cage
He pulls her into another kiss before she leaves.

After Lilah departs, Wes gets out of bed, slips on his jeans and unlocks the closet door. Inside is a cage, where Justine is chained and gagged.

Wes tells her it's time for a boat ride.

Wes, Justine on the boat
Wes pilots the boat as Justine wonders what junk they'll turn up on this trip. She suggests Wes take a dive and check things out for himself.

Wes notes the sonar shows nothing as he prepares to check a new grid in the search. He moves toward his charts, Justine moves out of the way, giving him plenty of room to pass. She wonders if Wes thinks finding Angel will change anything.

He answers, "Everything changes."
Wes
Justine finds the searching at least preferable to being stuck in a cage all day with nothing to do but "fill my bucket."

Wes suggests she might have considered that before slashing his throat ("Sleep Tight").

Justine taunts him about the good man in the end not being so good after all considering he's now sleeping with the enemy and keeping a prisoner locked in his closet.

Wes tells her she was always a prisoner, it's just that the chains weren't always so obvious.

She snidely offers to meditate on that.
Justine
Wes wonders if Justine's sister would be proud of her, considering what happened to her was the catalyst for Justine's going down the road of revenge she's on.

Justine sees it as justice.

Wes wonders how turning Connor against Angel qualifies as justice.

Justine believes Angel got what was coming to him.

Wes reckons that happens to everyone sooner or later. He thinks she and Holtz deserved each other; both humorless, absorbed by hatred and vengeance.

Justine offers that getting Wes to steal Angel's son was good for a laugh.

Wes wonders if it was better than tricking Connor into sinking Angel to the bottom of the ocean.

Justine admits that was good too.
"I'll take away your bucket."
Wes points out it wasn't a particularly smart plan since it was pretty easy to figure out which door to kick in once Angel turned up missing and almost as easy to persuade her to come clean about what had happened.

Justine, who is standing behind Wes (he has his back to her), picks up a large wrench being used to weight down the charts. She makes a move toward Wes to hit him with it.

Without turning, he coldly informs her, "I'll take away your bucket."

She throws the wrench down and storms out.

Connor arrives at Marissa'sConnor, Fred, Gunn seek Marissa
Connor, carrying a large sword, kicks in the door at the tenement, searching for Marissa.

Gunn and Fred follow him in, Gunn isn't happy with Connor's approach.

They search the place, finding nothing.

Fred figures Marissa is gone.

Connor listens intently to something only he can hear. He moves to a pile of blankets on the floor and tosses them back. He finds a walkman underneath, music still playing through the headphones. He knows Marissa is close by.

As everyone hears a noise above, Marissa drops down on Gunn and Fred from the ceiling.
Connor pins Marissa
Connor fights with her briefly, then pins her against a beam, blade held to her throat.

Marissa says she doesn't know anything.

Gunn wonders how she can know that since nobody has asked any questions yet.

Gunn tells her they know she used to feed at the bluffs. He says their friend disappeared from there three months Marissa, Connorago and wants to know if Marissa might have seen him.

She describes him, "tall, good looking, weird hair?"

Connor's expression is one of immediate concern.

He tells Marissa the one who's missing is his father. He steps back, allowing her a chance to get away.
Fred, Gunn look to the ground below
Marissa tears across the room and jumps through the glass of the window.

Connor follows her out.

Gunn and Fred look to the distant drop to the alley below but see nothing. Gunn plans to kill Connor if the jump didn't.

Marissa runs down an alley and climbs up the side of a building to the roof where she's confronted by Connor, who's there waiting for her.
Connor confronts MarissaMarissa
Connor coldly asks her what she saw.

A frightened Marissa morphs into human face and tells him it doesn't matter, it will be their secret.

Connor stakes her.

Gunn calls out for him.

Connor slashes his arm with the stake. When Gunn and Fred arrive, he tells them she attacked him, he had no choice but to dust her.

An angry Gunn thinks perhaps Connor would have had a choice if he'd stop to think first for once. He wonders if Connor realizes what he just did.

Connor throws the stake down and runs to the roof's edge. He drops to the ground below.
Fred defends Connor to Gunn
Gunn is furious that Connor killed the only lead they had.

Fred defends Connor, telling Gunn he wants to find Angel as much as they do. She wonders if Gunn has considered how Connor feels right now.

Gunn responds that it's hard to know since Connor doesn't talk to him about anything.

Fred tells him Connor has been through a lot, Gunn needs to be patient with him. She reminds him he's "just a boy."
Gunn
Gunn isn't so sure of that, noting Connor is the offspring of two vampires, which is supposed to be impossible. He points out Connor just dropped off the roof of a six story building without any injury and his nickname in Quor-toth was "The Destroyer." He thinks all of that indicates he's something other than "just a boy."

Fred reminds him Connor is Angel's son and that's the only thing that matters. She walks off, leaving Gunn angry and frustrated.

Connor overlooks the city
Connor is perched on the edge of a rooftop, overlooking the city.
Angel arrives
Angel walks up behind him, noting it's a lovely sight.

Connor turns to face Angel who asks if he gets a hug.

Connor tells him to get it over with.

Angel assures him there's no hurry, he isn't going anywhere.

A group of vamps arrive. Angel and Connor start to laugh.

One of the vamps wants to know what's funny.

Angel tells him he'll let him know later. Fight ensues as father and son take on the vamps together.
Angel about to snap Connor's neck
Once the vamps are defeated, Angel approaches Connor, smiles, puts his hands on his shoulders and thanks him. Then he violently snaps his neck.

Angel wakes up in the box, screaming.

Vegas Lorne
In Las Vegas, Lorne is backstage preparing to do a show. He's decked out in a long robe of blue and white fur, looking a bit like a refugee from a Liberace estate sale. An assistant dabs at his makeup. A large, burly guy hands him a cell phone. He takes the call, it's Fred.

Fred tells him she's been trying to reach him.

He explains that he's been booked and hasn't had much free time as burly guy seems to be pressuring him to hang up the phone.

Fred tells him they really need his help, they had a lead but they lost it. She asks if Lorne has gotten any information on Angel or Cordelia from his contacts.

Lorne tells her he hasn't heard anything but if he does, he'll let them know. He says he has to go and signs off with, "Make sure Fluffy's getting enough love."
Fred wonders about the "Fluffy" referenceGunn, Fred
Fred hangs up and wonders what that was about. She asks Gunn if he knows anything about "Fluffy."

He doesn't have a clue. Gunn wonders where they look now, pointing out they're close to losing the hotel considering their current financial problems.

Fred assures him everything will work out, they'll find Angel and Cordelia.

Lilah, Gavin, Linwood
In a hallway at W&H, Lilah asks Linwood if it's true they've gotten a lead on Angel as Gavin looks on.

Linwood tells her Gavin had some success with the psychics.

Lilah asks where Angel is.

Gavin answers that they don't know exactly but they do know he's safe and can't go anywhere.

Lilah isn't impressed.

Linwood tells her Angel is secured and out of their way, that's all that matters.

Lilah reminds Linwood Angel is supposed to play a major role in the apocalypse, an event the Senior Partners have been working on since "the beginning of time." She thinks they should have come up with more information given they've had three months.

Linwood tells her Gavin's work with the psychics has turned up interesting information in a number of areas. He asks if she'd like to enlighten them.

Lilah answers her personal business isn't Gavin's business.

Linwood informs her everything is his business.
Lilah
Lilah tells him she's not sleeping with Wes for information.

Linwood is incredulous, pointing out that if Wes trusts her, they can use that to their advantage.

Lilah informs him there's nothing to take advantage of since Wesley doesn't know anything.

Linwood thinks Wes is taking advantage of Lilah. He tells her there's a staff meeting in an hour. He expects her to be there. He gets on the elevator and departs.

Angel is found
On the boat, the sonar picks up something. Justine figures it could be anything, not necessarily what they're looking for.

Wes tells her to have a look.
the crate is opened
Justine takes a dive and finds the crate.

Wes hauls it on board the deck of the boat. He unseals the welded hinges. He and Justine remove the lid.
Wes looks after Angel
As Wes cuts the cable binding Angel, Justine sarcastically congratulates him on playing hero and wonders if his friends will throw him a party.

A pale hand shoots out of the box and clamps onto Wesley's throat.

Angel slowly releases his grip.

Wes remains calm and slowly moves Angel's hand off of his throat as Angel loses consciousness.

Wes and the pig's bloodAngel gets a meal
Wes clears a table below deck and lays Angel on it. He takes a couple of jars of blood out of a bag and removes the lid from one of them as he forces Angel to drink.

Justine asks about the blood.

Wes tells her it's animal.

Justine doesn't see the point in rushing, she doesn't figure he's going anywhere.

Wes explains vamps can live indefinitely without feeding but higher brain function suffers from prolonged starvation.
Justine taunts WesWesley's reaction to Justine's words
Justine wonders why Wesley spent so much energy to save "that thing." She asks if he had hopes things would go back to being as they once were. She's sure it won't make a difference, saying Angel hates Wes, "they all do and they're never going to take you back."

Wes says nothing, but his expression indicates her words hit home.

Connor returns to the hotel
Connor arrives back at the hotel to where Fred and Gunn are waiting. He wonders if there's going to be yelling.

Fred assures him no yelling.

Connor's sure Gunn looks like he's about to yell, he always looks that way.

An irritated Gunn tells him he's not going to yell.

Fred asks Connor where he was.

He says he was out as he walks past them and heads upstairs.

Gunn says they were concerned about him.
frustrated Gunn
Connor stops and turns to face them. He apologizes, saying he realizes he shouldn't go off alone. He should know that by now.

Gunn smiles, gives him a playful slap and attributes it to Connor having a hard head, like his father.

Connor bristles at the comparison.

Gunn tries to point out why he thinks they are similar in some ways but Connor cuts him off with an angry, "Like I care what you think?"

Fred, sensing the rising tension, steps between them and suggests Connor go upstairs. He does as Gunn wonders why bother to be nice to the kid when that's how he responds. He thinks Connor keeps pushing him because he wants him to lose control.

Fred suggests Connor is testing Gunn because, with Angel away, he's the dominant male in the household.
Gunn, FredGunn takes a call
Gunn likes the sound of that. They start kissing. The phone rings. Gunn thinks they should ignore it.

Fred thinks they should answer it in case it's a client.

Gunn reluctantly breaks the embrace and picks up the receiver.

Angel
Angel wakes up to see Lorne standing over him, enjoying a drink.

Angel says life should be good, but everything he touches turns to ashes.
Lorne, Angel
Lorne figures the comfort hug he was going to offer isn't going to help now. He suggests the only thing in Angel's life that should be ashes is Connor saying, "Hell, I'd take him out myself if I wasn't just a crappy hallucination."

Wes comes downstairs and asks how Angel is.

A handcuffed Justine answers that "he won't shut up."

Angel mutters that he has to stop him.

Lorne asks if he wants to "bitch slap sour puss over there for practice", he offers to cheer him on.
Wes reacts to "I should have killed you."
Angel says he has to do it as he tries to get up.

Wes gently pushes him back down, telling him he needs rest now.

Lorne starts singing a lullaby.
Angel looks at Wes, and sees Connor's face
Angel looks up at Wesley and sees Connor's face. He mutters, "I should have killed you."

Justine laughs, finding that amusing and wishing she had a camera to capture the expression on Wesley's face.

Wes notesAngel has been without feeding for too long, he needs something more substantial than pig's blood.

Justine wonders what he's thinking of feeding him.
Wes feeds Angel from his arm
He pulls a knife and looks at her.

Justine makes it clear she has no intention of feeding "that thing."

Wes says her blood is too thin. He slices the inside of his forearm and feeds Angel from the cut as Justine turns away in disgust.

the meeting at W&H
In the conference room at W&H, Lilah runs her hands over the back of Linwood's chair before the others arrive. As the meeting's participants stream in, she moves to her own seat toward the opposite end of the table.
Linwood confronts LIlah
After everyone is seated, Linwood tells them they have a lot to discuss. He suggests they start with Lilah and wonders if anyone wants to talk about her file.

Lilah wants an opportunity to explain herself.

Gavin thinks her record speaks pretty clearly.

Linwood agrees, her failures are well documented and far outnumber her successes. He thinks perhaps she'd be better served in a lower profile position.
Gavin
Gavin suggests an office in a third world dimension.

Lilah says she's sorry, admitting she's made mistakes but fear wasn't among them.

Linwood wonders if there's something she'd like to say.
Lilah
Lilah asks why they haven't managed to get a hold of Connor for study.

Linwood answers that they're working on it.

Lilah wonders why they don't have more information on Angel's whereabouts and why they aren't trying to nail that information down.

Linwood tells her these matters are under his direction, he makes the decisions. He chides her for her lack of long-term vision, saying it's always been one of her faults.

Lilah stands, becoming more assertive. She tells Linwood that fear has always been a fault of his. She thinks he's afraid of Angel and his son, which is why his strategy has been to "wait and see." She points out that fear breeds weakness.

Linwood isn't particularly concerned with Lilah's opinion of him until she points out that the Senior Partners agree. She's met with one of them, Mr. Suvarta.

Linwood is noticeably nervous about that revelation.

Lilah assures him Mr. Suvarta was very helpful.
Linwood gets terminated
Linwood responds with anger, asking if Lilah actually went over his head.

Lilah presses a button on a PDA she's holding. A blade shoots out from the side of Linwood's chair, swiftly curves inward and decapitates him.
Linwood's head on the table
Lilah answers his question, "Just under it, actually" as his head rolls across the conference table. She informs the others present that they'll be reporting to her from now on. She directs them to leave.

As they exit she calls to Gavin and asks him to remove Linwood's head from the table.

Fred brings a snack
Fred enters Connor's room and offers a snack she's brought on a tray.

He refuses it.

Fred knows he's always hungry. She encourages him to eat something.
Connor
He sits on the edge of the bed and takes the sandwich.

Fred strokes the back of his head.

Connor asks if Gunn is still angry.

Fred wonders what Connor thinks.

He offers an apology.

Fred tells him she can't imagine what he's been through, being taken by Holtz, raised in Quor-toth.
Fred clues Connor in
As her demeanor suddenly shifts from compassionate to icy, she tells him she knows he's still hurting but she assures him not nearly as much as he will for what he did to Angel.

Connor looks up at her, stunned.

Fred hits him in the chest with a taser a few times, knocking him backwards onto the bed.

Connor wakes up tied ot a chair
Connor wakes up in the hotel office, tied to a chair. Gunn looks on.

Fred wonders if Connor thinks that's what Angel felt when he did the same thing to him. She asks if Angel screamed the way Connor did.

Connor asks why they're doing this.

Gunn suggests he not even try denying anything.

Fred tells him they got a call from an old friend earlier.

Gunn adds he's on a boat, with Angel.
"Daddy's coming home"
Connor doesn't look too happy with that news.

Gunn tells him daddy's coming home and he figures somebody is going to get a beating.

Fred is angry that Angel has been stuck in a box for three months and Connor knew all along.

Gunn wants to know if Connor did the same thing to Cordelia.

Fred wants to know how he could do it, when they took him into their home and trusted him.

Fred gets more worked up and finally hits him again in the chest with the taser.

Connor screams.

Gunn pulls her back.

Wes puts Angel in his car
Justine is handcuffed to a railing while Wes helps Angel into the car. Justine warns him that Angel will turn on him and everyone else. She figures it's only a matter of time, he can't help it, it's what he is.
Justine
Wes gets into the car.

Justine wonders if he's going to leave her handcuffed there.

He tosses the key at her feet and tells her she can choose to remain a slave or live her life, it's up to her. He drives off.

Gunn, Fred
At the hotel, Fred tells Gunn she would have done anything for Connor, now she just wants to hurt him.
Connor
Connor tells her to go ahead, he doesn't care, he's used to it.

Fred wonders if he feels anything at all, she thinks there's nothing inside of him.

Connor suggests she cut him up and find out.

Fred doesn't understand how he could have done this to his father.

Connor tells her "that thing isn't my father."

Gunn assures him he is.

Connor thinks Angel got what he deserved.

Fred wonders how soon it would have been before Connor felt she and Gunn deserved it as well.
Wes helps Angel into the hotel
Fred and Gunn hear the lobby door open and exit the office.

Wes helps a weakened Angel inside.

The others assist him to the couch.

Wes starts to leave, Fred asks where he's going.

He answers he's done what he came to do.
Fred, Angel
Gunn wonders why Wes waited so long to tell them about Connor.

Fred wonders that too, considering Wes knew what Connor was capable of.
Wes leaving
Wes tells her he knew Connor wouldn't hurt them because they're human. He thought they were safer if they didn't know

Fred is angry at that. She notes Wes really doesn't care anymore.

He turns to leave, telling Fred Angel will need more blood, he [Wes] is fresh out. He leaves.

Gunn starts upstairs for blankets when they hear a noise from the office. Gunn and Fred rush to the office to find Connor has gotten loose.

He throws Gunn across the room and stuns Fred with the taser.
Angel confronts Connor
As he turns to leave, he finds himself face to face with Angel who firmly directs him to sit.
Connor, Angel face off
Connor takes a few steps back, he doesn't think Angel is in any condition to take him on.

Angel suggests he not bet on that.

Connor picks up a chair, slams it down and sits.

Angel takes a seat opposite his son and asks how his summer went. Angel tells him about his summer; saw some fish, starved, had a lot of hallucinations.
Angel asks Connor about his summer
Connor is unrepentant, telling Angel he got what he deserved.

Angel knows he thinks this because he believes Angel killed Holtz. He tells Connor he tried to tell him he didn't do it when Connor was busy sinking him but he didn't know the whole story then. He tells him the truth, that Holtz killed himself by having Justine do the job with an ice pick, all so Connor would hate Angel.
Connor
Connor thinks that even if that's true, Angel still deserved what he got.

Angel figures what he 'deserves' is debatable but he wants Connor to understand that wishing vengeance on someone and actually taking it are two different things. He says the question now is what does Connor deserve.
Angel wants an answer
Connor bolts from the chair and attempts to make a run for it.

Angel stops him and throws him against the wall. He informs Connor he's not through speaking yet. He says Wes has told him everything that's been going on in his absence and what he decides Connor 'deserves' will depend on whether he did something to Cordelia.
Connor denies doing anything to Cordelia
Connor says he didn't.

Fred and Gunn think he's lying.

Connor insists he didn't do anything to Cordy, he's telling the truth.

Angel accepts that, saying Connor has lied to him enough times for him to know the difference. He tells Connor to get up from the floor. He stands.
Connor just before leaving
Angel tells his son what he did to him was unbelievable "but then I got stuck in a Hell dimension by my girlfriend one time for 100 years so a few months under the ocean actually gave me perspective." In his time thinking, he realized nothing in the world is as it should be, it's a cruel place but that's why there are "champions." It doesn't matter who they are, where they come from, what they've suffered or if they can make a difference, they "live as though the world were as it should be to show it what it can be." He doesn't see Connor as a part of that now, he hopes one day he will be. He tells his son he loves him and to get out of his house.

Connor leaves.

Angel slumps against the wall.

Fred suggests he get some rest.

He tells them they need to find Cordelia.
