"Spin the Bottle"

Written by: Joss Whedon Original Air Date: November 10, 2002

Lorne singing, lit by the stagelights
Lorne is on-stage finishing up a rendition of "The Way We Were", the crowd applauds.

He notes youth is a "magical" time of "first loves and great discoveries." He says youth is where it's at, a national obsession, but people forget the mess it was, there's "magic" but people forget how unreliable that is. He offers to tell a story, that "starts with a kid."

Connor is walking the street, angry.

Lorne notes it started somewhere else, actually.

Cordelia asks a question
From the end of the previous episode, "Supersymmetry", Angel and Cordelia are sitting in the courtyard. Cordelia asks, "Were we in love?"

Angel doesn't know how to answer.

Cordelia asks again.

Angel wonders if she's asking if they were in love "with each other."

A frustrated Cordelia lets him know she isn't interested in getting the run-around. She wants the truth.

Angel tells her honestly, he doesn't know.

Cordy doesn't understand how he could not know.

He answers that he isn't sure.

Cordy figures that's something he should remember. She sarcastically suggests perhaps he made a note of it, maybe tacked it to the refrigerator?
Angel doesn't have answers
Angel tells her he had feelings for her, he thought she might return them but she never told him. He tells her what happened. She asked to meet him so they could talk and he never saw her again.

Cordy incredulously asks if he thought she wanted to meet him to tell him she was in love with him.

Angel doesn't think she's ready to discuss it.
Cordy wonders about harassment
Cordy wonders if maybe she wasn't going to meet him to tell him to back off. Maybe he was coming on too strong. Maybe she was going to present him with a restraining order. She wonders if he's considered that possibility.
Angel is confronted
Angel gets defensive, saying he never harassed her at work then notes there was the one time with the ballet ("Waiting in the Wings"), but they were under a spell at the time. He raises his voice, anxiously reminding her they were going to meet at the bluffs at Malibu. He thinks that sounds a little romantic for a rendezvous to present a restraining order.

Cordelia doesn't appreciate being yelled at and tells him so.

Angel says this is why he doesn't want to answer questions for which he has no answers. He does know she was his "dearest friend" and he hopes for at least that much back.
Cordy's having a tough time
Cordelia quietly notes he can't understand how difficult it is for her to remember things like who's the president, the alphabet, history, the name of all the shoe stores at the local mall but her own name sounds alien to her.

Angel assures her they'll find a way to get her memory back.
Lorne arrives with a plan
Lorne enters the garden, reminding Angel he's the one doing all the work. He holds up a bottle and tells them he got a memory spell from one of his clients that's "guaranteed" to restore Cordelia's memory.

Angel doesn't like the sound of "guaranteed."

Lorne assures him there's no pain or side effects, "There's no way this can fail."

Lorne at the club, continues his narration
On-stage, Lorne nurses a drink and continues his narration, "So I'm an idiot. What are you, perfect?" He explains that he had every reason to expect the spell to work, and it did, sort of.

He ponders what came before the spell, and after, realizing he's going to need more liquor. He says it was a legitimate spell. The Wraith girl he got it from deals professionally in memory spells and assured him it was "the right mix."

Cordy and Angel listen to Lorne's planCordy is anxious to try the spell
In the courtyard, Lorne says they can do the spell and get Cordelia's memory back.

Angel isn't sure about trying a spell.

Cordelia doesn't care about Angel's reservations. She's anxious to do it and tells Lorne as much. She doesn't care if there are repercussions or side effects, she just wants her memory back.

Lorne tells her he's got all the ingredients he needs, they just have to "gather the six" and they'll be ready. He goes into the hotel, Cordy follows him in.

Angel remains in the courtyard wondering, "The six what?"

Wes checks out new equipment
At Wesley's place, he's testing out some new equipment as another guy looks on. He fires a blade from the outer part of a forearm mounted device and shatters a vase on a nearby shelf with it.
Wes tries out the sword blade
He turns and ejects a sword from the inner part of the device, which comes out in sections and forms into a single blade. He examines that, then retracts it back into the device.

He tells the guy watching to pass on to "Emil" that if the device tests well in the field, Wes will contact him again. The guy leaves.

The phone rings, Wes answers it.

In a one sided conversation, Wes tells Lorne he agrees. He'll be there. He thinks it will be worth doing if it works. He stumbles a bit for words then asks if everyone is there, he's concerned about Fred.

Gunn and Fred in bedFred answers her door
Fred and Gunn are in bed, both lying on their backs next to each other. Both awake, neither saying anything.

Fred gets out of bed to answer a knock at the door, opens it and finds Angel. She curtly asks what he wants.

Lorne makes preparations
Lorne is laying things out on the floor of the lobby for the spell.

As Gunn and Fred come downstairs, Gunn sarcastically notes being happy to see the makings of a spell.

Lorne reminds him they're doing this for Cordelia.

Gunn doesn't want any portals opening. He leaves.

Fred apologizes for him to Lorne, telling him they've already had too much of that.
Fred, Lorne
Lorne assures her there won't be any problems with the spell. He's happy that his first reading after getting a hole drilled in his head ("Slouching Toward Bethlehem") brought him the means to get Cordy's memory back. He says something in Pylean to Fred, who responds similarly.
Wes, Fred talk as Gunn looks on
Wes enters, having heard the end of that conversation and asks if he missed the spell. He wonders if English went away.

Lorne translates what he'd said, "I may be prepared to shout a joyful chant."

Fred offers a translation of her response, "May your words please the Gods."

Fred is a bit uncomfortable with Wesley. He asks her if she --

She answers, "it's done" as Gunn looks on from the back office.

Lorne continues his narration
On-stage, Lorne offers that Fred didn't say exactly what she thought she said, it's all about inflection, but he appreciates her effort anyway. He likes hearing the sound of his native language now and then as long as it's not from a relative.

Lorne goes on, explaining that at the time he didn't know Fred had tried to kill her former professor by opening a portal, Gunn didn't know Wesley had helped her and Wes didn't know Gunn had killed the professor for her so Fred wouldn't be a killer herself ("Supersymmetry"). Fred didn't know that Gunn was, at that moment, figuring out that Wes had helped her as he watched Wes and Fred from the back office.

Lorne admits he didn't have all the facts when he started. He's supposed to be able to read people, but none of them were singing. His mind was on helping Cordelia.

Cordy in her towel
Cordy, wet and wrapped in a towel, exits the bathroom of one of the hotel rooms. She's surprised to see Angel standing in the room. She tells him she wanted to take the chance to clean up, Connor's place isn't exactly a five star hotel.
Angel
Angel asks how Connor is.

Cordy tells him he's a typical teen, a bit of a mess. As she crosses the room to the closet to retrieve some clothes, she says he carries a lot of pain, she thinks her being there with him is helpful.

Angel thinks that sounds good. He tells her they're about ready to do the spell, he'll be downstairs.
Angel, Cordelia
As he starts to leave, Cordelia notes that he felt comfortable coming into her room without knocking or an invitation. She figures that fits either the "in love" theory or the "harassment" theory.

Angel tells her she'll hopefully have the answers soon and leaves.

Wes reacts to Gunn
Wes walks into the back office to look around, reminisce.

Gunn is already there. He says he figures he's the "muscle" now.

Wes doesn't know what he's talking about.

Gunn goes on, saying "Angel is the man on the card, it's his world." Gunn says he's not a leader anymore, he doesn't have the "champion's heart" like Cordelia, and Wes was the intellect. He figures that leaves him as the muscle.
Gunn, jealous
Wes asks how Fred fits into that.

Gunn laughs. He figures that's the question as he notes she's smart too. He suggests perhaps she and Wes are "kindred souls" and that's why she asked for his help in dealing with the professor. He notes that killing takes smarts.

Wes responds he did what Gunn wouldn't.

Gunn angrily informs him Wes has no clue what he'd do for Fred.

Wes wonders why he should need to know.
Wes wants to leave
Gunn is getting angrier as he approaches Wes, telling him he knows what's happening. He knows why Wesley keeps coming back.

Wes coldly answers that he comes back because they keep needing his assistance. He tries to leave the office.
Wes threatens Gunn
Gunn blocks his way, getting in his face. He tells Wesley that if he makes any moves on Fred, he'll smack him down.

Wes says he's happy to hear Gunn is so secure in his relationship.

Gunn suggests he keep pushing him.

Wes wants Gunn out of his way so he can leave the office.

Gunn grabs Wes by the arm. A blade ejects from the forearm mounted device under his jacket sleeve.

Wes holds the blade near Gunn's throat briefly, pointing out that not everyone has muscle to rely on. He retracts the blade and heads out of the office.

Gunn asks what happened to him.

Wes answers, "I had my throat cut and all my friends abandoned me" ("Sleep Tight"). He leaves the office.

doing the spell
In the lobby, everyone is sitting on the floor in a circle, holding hands. The bottle is in the center of the circle along with several lit candles.

Lorne begins reciting the spell.

The bottle begins to tremble, then spin, as a white light spirals out from it. The light divides into individual trails, each one entering a person in the circle. The light disappears, the bottle stops spinning.
Lorne passes out
Cordelia, sounding like she's intoxicated, asks what's happening.

Lorne gets up from the circle and stumbles into the office where he passes out on the floor.

Everyone stops holding hands and goes their own way. They each look around, all seemingly in a similar stupor.
Fred examines the plant
Angel walks into the courtyard. Fred ponders the beauty of a lobby plant, then throws up in the pot. Wes watches as Gunn practices some martial arts moves.
Wes awaits signs of side effects
Wes notes they'll wait and see if there are any side effects from the spell, then starts laughing.
Cordy crushes the bottle
Cordelia makes it up from the floor, her hand to her head. She wonders what's happening. She figures she has to do something as she steps into the center of the circle and crushes the bottle with her foot.

A flash of light emanates from the remains, then disappears.
Cordy answers Wes
Wesley asks Cordy her name.

She says she's "Cordelia Chase, dumbass" and warns him that if she's the victim of some kind of hazing prank where she gets drugged and left with a bunch of "losers", her parents will sue "everyone in Sunnydale."
Gunn
Gunn demands to know what she's talking about.

She tells him it's called "kidnapping" and addresses him as "Hair Club for Men." She doesn't think they know her well if they believe she'll put up with this.
"Hello, salty goodness!"
Angel walks in from the courtyard.

Cordelia notices his entrance, greeting him with, "Hello, salty goodness!" and takes a deep breath.
Wes goes over what they know
Wes repeats what they know about Cordy; her name, where she lives, the fact she's in high school.

She confirms that's accurate.

Wes asks Gunn who he is.

An edgy Gunn replies he's the one who'll be kicking everyone's butt if someone doesn't tell him what's happening.

Cordelia wonders what the shorter version of his name might be.
Cordy offers to be "best friends" with Fred
Wes asks if anyone knows who anyone else is.

Fred introduces herself, saying she's in school in San Antonio.

Cordelia notes they're both in school, looks at Fred and snidely offers they could be best friends so "I can lose all of my cool ones!"
Wes proudly announcing he's "head boy"
Wes suggests there's no need to be rude.

Cordelia responds that this is the perfect occasion for it, addressing Wes as "Princess Charles."

He informs her his name is Wesley. He introduces himself with his full name and the fact he's a student at the "Watcher's Academy in Southern Hampshire." He rather proudly adds that he's "head boy."

Cordelia sarcastically wonders how he got that nickname.

Wes offers that it took a lot of work.
Gunn offers his name
Gunn says, "Gunn."

A startled Wes jumps and asks where.

Gunn tells him that's his name, the short version.

Wes asks what school he attends.

An irritated Gunn rolls his eyes and doesn't answer.
Cordy asks Angel for his story
Cordelia walks over to Angel and asks for his story.

Angel thinks they're all crazy. He notices their clothes, the way they talk, the decor of the hotel. He wonders what land he's in.

Gunn wonders what land it's supposed to be.

Wes asks, "Where do you hail from, friend?"
Angel
Angel informs the "English pig" he's not his friend, saying they didn't want them in Ireland and they don't want them there.

Gunn asks if he's Irish.

Cordy notes he doesn't sound Irish.

Angel thinks he sounds exactly like he's supposed to, then pauses, noting the lack of an accent. He wonders what's wrong with his voice.

Wes asks his name.

Angel answers, "Liam."
Wes doesn't think leaving is a good idea
Cordy is frustrated that the only progress they've made in figuring out what's happening is to discover everybody has a name. She starts to leave the hotel.

Wes blocks her way, suggesting she not be so quick to leave as he notes the remnants of the spell scattered on the floor. He thinks they're the victims of some sort of wicked scheme. He reckons the front door is likely bolted shut to keep them inside and offers they have no idea what danger awaits them outside.

Angel sits on the step, muttering "English pig" over and over again, trying to figure out why it doesn't sound right.
Fred has a conspiracy theoryCordy suggests calling the police
Wes suggests they gather as much information as they can.

Cordy suggests they call the police.

Gunn doesn't want any cops near him.

Fred doesn't think it's a good idea to call the cops. She believes this is some sort of government conspiracy and the police are likely involved. She says her cousin told her the government is always taking kids to do experiments on. She wonders if anyone else had to take a personality test recently.

Cordelia interrupts Fred's ramblings, asking if anyone sane has any ideas.
Wes offers a starting point
Wes notes they should start with what they know. They're all from different places, they're of similar ages. He pauses as he rubs his face, notes the stubble and figures they must have been unconscious for at least a month.
Wes assures Cordy her hair isn't so bad
Cordelia puts her hands up to her head and notices her short hair. She starts sobbing, claiming the government gave her "bad hair!"

Fred tries to reassure her it looks fine.

Wes adds his assurances as well.

Cordy wonders if they're telling the truth.

Wes offers they are, but he's not very convincing. He gets an idea and wonders if the point of the experiment is something about hair.

Gunn votes for someone other than Wes being in charge based on that stupid idea.
Angel thinks he's in hell
Angel offers that "it's the devil."

Cordy sobs, thinking he's referring to her hair.

Angel says his father always told him he was going to come to a bad end. He reckons he's gone to hell and this must be it.

Gunn looks around and says that hell is a lot nicer than his place.

Cordy continues whining about her hair.

Wes looks around the lobby and notes they appear to be in a hotel.

Fred makes a joke about "Motel Hell". She laughs as Wes and Gunn look at her blankly.
Wes takes the leadGunn wants Wes out of his way
Wes tells Gunn they should check the place out.

Gunn doesn't like anyone giving him orders, informing Wes he runs his own "crew."

Wes replies he's sure Gunn's "seafaring adventures are very interesting" but he knows about things that Gunn can't dream of. He thinks he's better suited for leadership in this situation. He reminds Gunn there's a reason he's "head boy."

Gunn suggests he'll be "headless boy" if he doesn't get out of his way.
Wes doing his karate thing
Wes thinks a few karate moves will show Gunn who's who as he starts to mime them. As he thrusts his arms out in front of him, a stake ejects from one of the forearm mounted devices he's wearing, scaring him.

Fred wonders what it is.

Wes thinks it's a clue.

Gunn asks if that's a wooden stake he's looking at.

Wes notes that it is and that changes the scenario somewhat.
Fred, trying the Wes move
Fred starts miming karate moves, expecting to find she has a similar ability, but discovers she has none.

Gunn wonders why Wesley is the only one with a weapon.

W es doesn't have an answer but suggests they check the place out for more weapons.

Gunn agrees that's a good idea.
Wes trying to figure out his weapons
As they split up to search, Wes carefully pushes the stake back into the device.

Fred walks behind the lobby desk and screams, frightening Wesley. As his arms flail, the sword ejects from one of the devices but the sections don't lock into place. As Wes panics and waves his arm frantically about, the sword flops around, unhinged at the joint in the center.

Fred screams again.

Wes stops moving and says nobody scream or touch his arms.
Wes checks for additional weapons
Fred thinks she found another clue.

Wes carefully lifts his pant legs up to see if he has any other weapons he wasn't aware of.
Lorne
As Wes joins Fred, Gunn, and Angel looking at an unconscious Lorne, Fred wonders what it is.

Angel thinks it's the devil.

Fred wonders why the devil is asleep.

Connor in a fightthe hooker makes an offer
Connor is dealing with a couple of vamps in an alley as a young woman looks on. One gets away, he dusts the other.

He asks the woman if she's okay.

She says they were going to kill her.

He tells her she's safe and walks away.

The young woman, a hooker, stops him. She seductively asks him if he doesn't want a reward, saying she can offer him a nice one.

He pauses a moment, then accepts her offer.
the hooker wants to be paid
Her tone becomes businesslike as she asks him if he's got $50.
frustrated Connor
He doesn't understand. He points out that he saved her life.

She says she doesn't do it for free. She suggests he "go home to mama, maybe she'll give you a special treat for being such a good boy." She walks away, leaving Connor frustrated and confused.

On-stage, Lorne says the hooker was a "classy girl". He continues his narration of events at the hotel.

Wes finishes taping Lorne upGunn wants to chop Lorne's head off
As Cordelia looks on, Wesley finishes securing an unconscious Lorne to the lobby poof couch with duct tape.

Gunn thinks they should decapitate him.

Wes reminds him that Lorne could have information useful to them, they'll question him when he awakens.

Gunn wonders how they can know the tape will hold him and still thinks they should cut his head off.

Wes responds, "Thank you, Marie Antoinette!"

Gunn doesn't like the sound of that.

Cordelia asks if they can pause "the Homo-erotic buddy cop session" long enough to explain the horned guy, the wooden stakes, and the fact neither of them seems particularly surprised by any of that. She notes that things are getting more strange.
Angel, Fred check out the weapons cabinet
As Fred and Angel open the weapons cabinet and ponder the selection, Fred notes her agreement with Cordy on the 'things getting stranger' opinion. She whispers to Angel, asking if he's "got any weed."

Wes makes a dramatic announcement, telling the others he's going to let them in on something they may find hard to understand but he can assure them --

Gunn interrupts, saying "Vampires are real."

A petulant Wes shouts that he was telling the story!

Gunn says vampires are all over LA, he's spent his entire life fighting them.
Gunn offers an opinion on Lorne
Angel looks cautiously at Lorne and asks if he's a vampire.

Gunn answers he isn't, but he's never seen anything like it before.

Wes enthusiastically raises his hand and offers that he has. He says it's a demon, likely the -- he pauses, then mumbles nonsense and finishes "family." He's quite pleased with himself, noting that some of them have broader experience than others.

Gunn demands to know how to kill it.
Wes tries faking itWes, Gunn tussle
Wes stumbles for an answer but doesn't find one. He rambles on about the species being nocturnal, feeding on roots, and having horns.

As Fred examines Lorne more closely, Gunn notes Wes really doesn't have a clue.

Wes feebly offers, "They're nocturnal?"

Gunn figures an ax will take care of it.

Wes stops him, telling him they need information first.

Gunn is for killing first, questions later. As he moves to retrieve the ax, Wes stops him. He and Gunn get into a tussle.
Cordy wonders if Angel will stop the fight
Cordelia asks Angel if he's going to do anything to stop them.

He answers, "It's about time the English got what's comin' to 'em. I'm rooting for the slave."

Fred continues her examination of an unconscious Lorne, touching his head, waving her hand in front of his face.
Cordy breaks up the fight
Cordelia breaks up the scuffle between Wes and Gunn. She thinks if Wesley has a theory, they should hear it.
Wes thinks it's a test
Wes pulls himself together and offers that he's heard stories at the Watcher's Academy of a secret test that only the craftiest can survive. He tells the others the rules of the test, "You're locked in a house with a vicious vampire and you have to kill him before he kills you." He says it's a test generally given to Slayers.

Fred wonders if he's talking about "Slayer", the band.

Wes starts to explain that, then moves on saying the point is that this could be a similar test. He notes the setup; the location, the maze-like quality of the place, the weapons, innocent civilians and a mysterious demon. He's sure it must be a test.

Gunn says he's killed vamps since he was 12.

Wes figures that just proves his theory. He thinks Gunn must be there in an "advisory capacity."

Gunn would prefer to just chop Lorne's head off. He's not into this whole test thing.

Fred wonders if he's always so cranky.

Gunn answers only when he wakes up with a bunch of "insane white people telling me what to do." He doesn't like being given orders by anyone, least of all the likes of them.
Cordy wonders why they don't just leaveAngel thinks something was done to them
Cordelia wonders why they don't just walk out the front door.

Angel thinks it's because something was done to them, they've been changed.

Cordy wonders if it's about her hair after all.

Fred offers that she gets what Angel is saying, noting that nobody looks 17. It seems like time has moved forward, they missed several years.
Cordy notices she's "filled out"
As they all look at each other and think about that, Cordelia looks at her chest, pushes up her breasts and notes, "I kinda have filled out even more."

Fred looks down at her chest, crosses her arms over herself, resigned to the fact, "I apparently ain't gonna."

Angel says he "feels cold, inside" as Wes looks at his own hands.
Gunn suggests a hunt
Cordelia is upset she's a "craggy twentysomething" that didn't get to have a prom.

Gunn thinks maybe the demon did something to them.

Fred wonders if killing the vampire will undo what's been done to them so they can go back to being themselves.

Cordy thinks that sounds good, then they can go their separate ways and never see each other again.

Gunn suggests they go on a vampire hunt. As they all retrieve weapons from the cabinet, he suggests they split into two groups.
Wes, Fred follow Gunn
Cordelia looks at Angel and offers to pair up with "tall, dark and slightly less pathetic than you two" indicating Fred and Gunn. She offers to check out the rooms.

Wes agrees, saying he, Gunn and Fred will check the downstairs. He reminds them that vampires are vicious. If they find one, they should try to draw it toward the group so they can deal with it together.

Wes tells Fred they'll win the day.

She assures him she's ready, she's fine, but she thinks it would be cooler if they could score some weed.

Cordy, Angel follow music
Upstairs, Angel and Cordelia are following the sound of a radio playing in one of the rooms. Angel looks into the room and tells her it's "minstrels."
Angel checks out the radio
Inside the room, Angel examines the radio, poking at it with the sword he's carrying.

Cordy reaches out and shuts the radio off.

Angel is amazed, wondering how she "stopped the tiny men from singing."

Cordelia notes he really is far from home.
Angel, ready for a break
Angel sits down and tells her when this is over, he's going to have a strong shot of ale. He doesn't care what his father says about how unhealthy it is.

Cordelia sits next to him and starts rubbing his back. She thinks maybe they should let the others handle the search.

He apologizes for acting "womanish".

Cordelia moves her hand from his back to his arm, rubs it, then squeezes his biceps and assures him he's not "womanish" at all.

He tells her she's sweet.
Angel zeros in on Cordy's neckAngel is tempted to snack
She replies he doesn't "know the half of it." She wonders what it is about danger that "makes your blood just --" as she starts to breathe heavily. She turns away from Angel who looks longingly at her neck.

He morphs into vamp face then back to human face as Cordy turns back to him.

She asks what's wrong.

He answers nothing is wrong as he excuses himself and rushes into the bathroom.
Angel realizes something is missing in the mirror
He stops in front of the medicine cabinet mirror and realizes he has no reflection. He rushes to the doorway and tells Cordelia he's invisible.

She tells him he isn't.

He thinks on that a moment, then excuses himself, closes the bathroom door and returns to the mirror. He waves his hands in front of it, once again noting the lack of reflection.
Angel realizes he's the vampireAngel's got trouble
He turns toward the door and morphs into game face. He feels his face and teeth, then morphs back into human face. He morphs back and forth several times, alternately whimpering and groaning as he changes.

Cordelia comes to the door, notes the odd noises coming from within and asks what's happening.

He hurriedly tells her he's almost finished as he nervously comes to the realization he's a vampire and the others are going to kill him.

On-stage, Lorne continues his narration. He asks if there's anything worse than feeling alone, knowing you're the only one who thinks like you do and if anyone were to find out, they'd drive a stake through your heart.

Gunn, followed by Wes and FredFred has a theory
In the hotel kitchen, Fred tells Gunn and Wes she doesn't think they should rule out the idea of aliens being responsible for what's happening to them.

She turns to Wes and notes that Lorne is green and since they were asleep for an apparently long time, who knows what experiments could have been done on them. She can imagine herself naked, lying on a table being "probed and explored." She goes on about their doing "whatever they wanted" as she was helpless to stop it. She has Wesley's rapt attention for this recitation.

When she gets to the last part, Wes suffers a premature ejection of the blade from his forearm device. He looks a bit embarrassed as he carefully sheaths it.
Wes suggests not giving up 'hope'
Wes assures her what's going on is the work of demons and "they're not nearly so exploratory as --" He stops himself, awkwardly pats her on the shoulder and assures her things will work out fine.

Gunn returns, telling them he didn't find anything. He doesn't see much sense in continuing the search.

Wes thinks they shouldn't "give up probe --"

He and Fred share a look. A flustered Wes restates that, hope, they shouldn't give up hope.

Wes examines Lorne
Angel and Cordy return to the lobby where the others are waiting.

Wes is examining a still unconscious Lorne. He asks Angel if they found anything.

Angel answers a bit too quickly, they didn't find any vampires of any sort anywhere.

Wes asks if they checked all the rooms.

Cordy answers they didn't, there are too many floors and her feet hurt. She suggests Wes finish searching the rooms himself.
Angel backs towards the door
Gunn thinks searching is a waste of time.

Angel eagerly agrees, saying the place is evil as he backs toward the door and nearly trips over the step. He thinks it would be a good idea for him to go, considering the place is evil.

As he reaches for the door, Wes warns him about trying to get out.

Angel opens the door and exits.

Gunn notes Wesley's "we're all locked in" theory doesn't hold much water.

Cordelia is stunned that a guy just brushed her off. She's convinced this must be a horrible spell because guys do not bail on her.
Wes fears Angel faces peril outside
Fred wonders if Angel will be okay outside.

Gunn mutters if Angel is being eaten, at least he's having more fun than Gunn is.

Wes notes Gunn can joke if he wants but he thinks Angel may be facing unimaginable horrors outside.
Angel rushes back inside
Angel stands at the curb, terrified by the rush of traffic on the street; lights flashing, horns blaring. He hurries back into the hotel, freaked by all the "demons".

Wes gives Gunn an 'I told ya so' look then asks how many.

A shaken Angel answers there are "hundreds, screaming."
Wes asks about the demons
Fred wonders if the demons will try to enter the hotel. She figures they need to find answers, quickly.

Wes asks what kind of demons.

Angel answers, "Shiny."
Cordelia, confident she's still got 'it'
Angel sits next to Cordy who sees his return as a sign she's still got it when it comes to men.
Wes considers the possibilities
Gunn figures this means they'll have to check the rest of the rooms, not something he's enthusiastic about.

Fred offers the vampire will come to them anyway, considering they're food for it.

Wes reckons it should be getting hungry by now. He agrees that continuing the search would be pointless. He thinks the Council has been more shrewd than he'd imagined.

Fred asks how.

Wes reviews the facts; five people unknown to each other, far from home, are trapped together at night.
Angel stares at Cordy's neck
As he's talking, Cordelia has her head cocked to the side, listening.

Angel starts looking at her neck.

Wes goes on, saying he's beginning to think the "blood sucking fiend" is closer than they know, he suspects --

Angel jumps up and interrupts him, offering to flush out the vampire.

Wes quickly finishes his thought, that the vampire is one of them.

Cordelia thinks he's kidding.

Wes assures her he isn't. He points out that the vampire has been in front of them all along, waiting for an opportune moment to attack.
Wes shoves a cross in Gunn's faceWes gets punched in the nose
As he's talking, he pulls a wooden cross from inside his jacket and thrusts it in Gunn's face.

Gunn punches him in the nose.

Angel laughs nervously, seeing Wesley's behavior as proof he's stupid. He'd like to hear another theory.

Wes gets up off the floor, saying he wasn't finished yet. He thinks everyone should take a turn with the cross since it obviously doesn't affect him or (referring to Gunn) "the pugilist."

Gunn tells Wes to hope he doesn't look that word up.
Cordy handles the crossFred hands Angel the cross
Cordelia gets up and takes the cross from Wes. She holds it, waves it in front of herself then looks at Wes who looks at her intensely in return. Cordy rolls her eyes and tosses the cross to Fred.

Fred moves the cross over her entire body like she's doing an airport security check. She hands it to Angel.
Angel holding the crossAngel deflects attention
Angel grasps the cross in his hand while holding it in front of him, not looking at it. His hand starts to sizzle. He moves his hand down to his side.

Just as Fred starts to ask if anyone else hears the sizzling sound, Angel anxiously points out that "the devil" is awake.

As they all move to Lorne, Angel tosses the cross behind him.

looking to Lorne for answers
Lorne notes the powerful whammy that came from that spell, then notices he's taped to the couch. He wants to know what's going on.

Wesley tells the "spawn of evil" they were hoping they'd get answers from him.

Lorne begins to realize his surefire spell wasn't so surefire after all. He wonders if anything went right, if Cordelia at least got her memory back.
Lorne gives an answer
Wes demands Lorne tell him where the vampire is.

Lorne answers there are no vampires there, much to Angel's noticeable relief. Lorne adds, "Except for our boy here" as he looks at Angel.
Angel accuses Lorne of lying
Everyone moves away from Angel who approaches Lorne and accuses him of lying.

Lorne figures the spell didn't change the fact Angel is a vampire, his magic isn't that powerful.

Angel punches him, sending the couch, with Lorne taped to it, sliding across the floor.
Gunn, ready for a fight
Gunn moves Fred out of the way and faces off with Angel, his ax at the ready.

Wes reckons the mystery is finally solved.

Gunn figures it explains the "lame-assed cover story about being Irish" as well.
Cordy reminds Wes he left her alone with Angel
An irritated Cordelia reminds Wes he left her alone with Angel.

Angel says he didn't touch her.

Cordy thinks he's obviously a deviant.

Angel strongly denies that.

Wes says all vampires are the same as he flicks his wrists toward Angel, trying to eject some kind of weapon from the devices. After an embarrassing delay, a stake finally ejects.
Wes suffers a premature firing
Gunn says Angel isn't human, "just dust waiting to happen."

Angel tells them he doesn't want to hurt anybody.

Fred asks Wes what to do.

He assures her things are under control.

She asks if he's sure as she grabs his wrist, sending the stake flying out of the device and into Angel who doubles over.

Wes apologizes for that, then reconsiders and says, "I mean -- Ha!"
vamped Angel
Angel pulls the stake out and straightens up, in vamp face.

Gunn slices his back with the ax.

Angel turns and attacks him, tossing Gunn over the desk. He turns back toward the others.

Cordelia sneaks off and attempts to hide behind the poof couch.
Cordy suggests Angel snack on Fred
Angel figures if they want a vampire, they've got one. He says he'll feed on their corpses, starting with the women. He wonders who should be first.

Cordelia peeks over the edge of the couch as Angel notes it's a tough decision.
Wes gets punched out
Cordelia pops up, irritated, then realizes this is not a time she really wants to be the chosen one. She points out he should choose Fred because "half of her is neck!"

Wes steps up to protect Fred. He ejects the sword from the forearm device and advises Fred and Cordy to run as he approaches Angel. He takes a swing at Angel and misses.

Angel decks him with one punch.

Angel hunts Cordelia
As Cordelia runs through a storage area, Angel is on her trail, a bit Angelus-y, enjoying a game of cat and mouse. He smiles as he muses she liked him before and now she won't even kiss him.
Cordy has her own defense
He finds her, grabs her and notices he's strong as well as fast. He likes it.

Cordelia screams loud and long, annoying Angel.

He releases her and asks what good she thought that would do her.

Connor rushes in and jumps Angel from behind.

Wes comes down the stairs, trips over a step, falls and hits his head on the edge of a chair. He tells Connor to "kill that one, please!"

Connor and Angel continue fighting.

Connor throws Angel through a window, down into the kitchen.
Cordy makes Connor an offer
Cordelia thanks him repeatedly.

Connor asks why Angel attacked her.

Cordelia thinks that should be obvious as she gets flirty. She says Connor is a bit "chess club" for her tastes but assures him if he kills the "freak" he'll get a big reward.

Connor asks if she means it.

She assures him she does.

Connor enters the kitchen, looking for Angel.

Angel attacks him, fight ensues.

Angel slams Connor's head down on the table telling him he's tired of being bullied.

Fred checks on GunnLorne thinks things can be fixed
Fred sneaks into the lobby and kneels next to Gunn who's on the floor, unconscious.

Lorne calls to her, asking if she'll give him a minute. He knows they have a problem, he thinks he can fix it.

She wonders why she should trust him.

He tells her they're friends. They did a spell that misfired but he thinks it can be fixed. He asks if the bottle is still in the circle on the floor.

Fred asks if he means the one in pieces.

Lorne is a bit discouraged to hear that but figures they can still do it, "one at a time" but she'll have to untie him first.

Fred isn't sure that's a good idea.

Lorne suggests she look into her heart and asks, "Am I evil?"

Angel
Connor and Angel continue fighting in the kitchen. Angel notes Connor is stronger than the others. He wonders if he's a vampire too.

Connor asks if he doesn't remember.

Angel says he only remembers waking up in that loony bin with the gang of hypocrites.

Connor wonders what he's talking about.

Angel says he's the one who's supposed to be evil but the others attacked him without reason, just because he was "different." He notes they're "as bad as my father."

Connor takes notice of the word father and asks, "Don't they suck?"
"You'd ber amazed."
Angel rants about his father, telling him to be good, fear God, do as he's told even though he knows his father is guilty of his own sins.

Connor thinks that sounds just like his father.

Angel asks if Connor's father is a "self-righteous bastard."

Connor answers, "You'd be amazed."

Connor leaps across the table toward Angel who leaps across the table to avoid him. They face off, each on opposite sides of the table. Connor asks if he's afraid to fight him.

Angel says he doesn't enjoy fighting all that much, he'd rather be getting it on with "the Chase girl."

Connor coldly tells him to stay away from her.

Angel asks if Cordy is Connor's, pointing out she never mentioned it.

Connor grabs a pan and throws it at Angel, hitting him in the head with it. They go back to fighting each other.

Fred gets the cure
In the lobby, Fred sticks her tongue out as Lorne finishes mixing something up in a mortar. He dips his finger into the substance, then touches Fred's tongue with his finger.

She reacts to the apparently unpleasant taste.

Lorne asks if it worked.

Gunn starts to attack Lorne from behind as Fred shouts "Wait!"

Angel, Connor fightingConnor gets slammed
Connor and Angel are still fighting in the kitchen. Angel punches him hard a few times, throws him into the wall, picks him up and throws him across the room.

Connor gets up and kicks him.

Angel picks him up and back slams him to the floor.

Connor wonders if he's happy now.

Angel tells him he didn't ask for any of it, not to be attacked, not to be a "freak", not to be born. He heads out of the kitchen.

Connor calls after him.

Angel stops and asks if he wants him to beat him up some more.

Connor thinks he almost defeated him.

Angel thinks he's dreaming if he really believes that.

Fred shouts down to the kitchen for everybody to hold off on what they're doing. She doesn't want anybody doing any killing.

Wes narrates as Wes, Gunn and Fred split
Fred, Lorne and Gunn, having had their memories restored, split off in the lobby, each heading in different directions without saying a word.

Lorne figures things worked out in the end as he recalls what happened when he gave Cordelia the potion.

She looks around briefly, then rushes out of the room.

Cordy gets the cureCordy's vision
On-stage, Lorne explains that they didn't know it at the time, but when the spell was reversed, Cordelia saw a vision in her mind of a beastly visage with small, piercing yellow eyes that snapped open. Then she ran out.

Lorne finishes his act, saying it was a long night for everyone. He hopes the audience enjoyed his tale. He tells them to enjoy themselves and stay away from magic.

"Were we in love?""We were."
Angel follows Cordelia out. He calls to her.

She says "I can't, Angel. I'm sorry."

He knows she remembers.

She says she remembers all of it, she needs to be alone for a while, "It's too --"

As she leaves, Angel asks, "Were we in love?"

She answers sadly, "We were." and walks out.
Lorne exits the club
Lorne walks out of the darkened, empty club.
