He gazed down at the slight form resting in his arms, her creamy skin contrasting beautifully with the warm glow of her rich red hair. With a gentle hand he brushed away the hair that had fallen across her face concealing its pretty elflike features beneath wispy locks of sunlight.

His gaze hardened and he dropped her heedlessly to the pavement. Brushing himself off he stood and walked out of the alley, leaving her where she lay, her face gentle in death; the sickening angle of her neck and the blinding pain in his head evidence to the vampire’s wrath.
