Synopsis

The Short: Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn are totally bummed by being fired as Angel prepares himself for the fight with Darla and Drusilla. Wesley is consoled by Virginia. Lindsey and Lilah are revealed to be the only survivors from last episode's bloodbath at Holland's place. Angel trains for battle, then gathers information on Darla and Drusilla from Merl. It ends up the two vampires left Lindsey and Lilah alive so one could be their liaison to Wolfram & Hart and the other could be the scapegoat for the deaths, they don't care which is which. They also leave word at several demon hangouts that they are looking to recruit the biggest baddest killers as their muscle, and plan tryouts. Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn all end up at Caritas getting drunk and singing their hearts out. Afterwards Cordelia gets a vision of a girl in an alley being attacked by a demon. They call Angel but he won't answer, so they go alone. Wesley convinces them they have to work without Angel. As Darla and Drusilla head to meet with their perspective recruits Angel gets there first with a large bag of weapons. Cordelia, Welsey and Gunn kill the demon and save the girl. As Drusilla and Darla arrive they discover Angel standing alone with the dead demons around him. He smokes a cigarette and tosses it in front of them. The ground is covered with gasoline, which causes Darla and Drusilla burst into flames. Angel walks away as the girls run out and knock over a fire hydrant to save themselves. They are horribly burned and they cry. At Wolfram & Hart an executive informs Lindsey and Lilah that they are both foul-ups, but they work well together because of their competition. He assigns them as joint acting co-vice presidents of special projects to replace Holland. Angel continues to train in his basement as Wesley walks in to tell him that they are keeping the agency open with or without Angel.

Fire The Long: After a ''Previously on Angel'' segment (see Continuity #1) we open on Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn walking out of the Hyperion, just fired, carrying their things. Cordelia has trouble dealing with it, Wesley tries to be calm, as Gunn seems fine with it. Inside the hotel Angel burns the pictures he drew of Darla in the furnace (Listen to the teaser here.)

Unfinished.

Cool Quotes

  1. Cordelia: ''Yeah, our hearts were out. You, Mister Big-Mojo-Guy, are supposed um, give us guidance now.''
Wesley: ''She's right. We came, we sang, we fought the urge to regurgitate.''
Cordelia: ''So spill already, not you! What are we supposed to do without lives? Where do we go from here?''
Gotta love a near-vomit moment. Listen to the quote
    here.

    Darla & Drusilla
  2. Drusilla: ''Dead already? Bad soldiers!''
I love Drusilla. Listen to the quote here.

References

    Bloody Mary
  1. Wesley: ''Bloody Mary.''
A Bloody Mary is a drink (the basic ingredients of which are vodka and tomato juice) than Mary Tudor, Queen of England, whose nickname was Bloody Mary, though the drink may be named after her. The drink may also be "named" after Winston Churchill's wife, for one legend has it that he asked a bartender to make him something to help his hangover, which "bloody Mary" (his method of referring to his wife) wouldn't detect on his breath. Also referenced by Oz in
Living Conditions. (Thanks to Bec for describing to us this legend.)

    Cat Stevens
  2. Wesley: ''Steady on Wesley. Perhaps something by Cat Stevens?''
Cat Stevens is a singer who has his own web site at http://catstevens.com/.

    Shania Twain
  3. Cordelia: ''Shania Twain or Madonna, I haven't decided.''
Shania Twain is country music singer. She has an official web site at http://www.shania-twain.com/.

Madonna Madonna is a singer and actress Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone, born in Michigan in 1968. Also mentioned by Cordelia in Expecting.

    Godzilla
  4. Merl: ''All right, all right, all right! I heard about your girls... Godzilla, Darsilla, whatever.''
Godzilla is of course the giant reptile who first appeared in the 1954 Japanese horror film Gojira. In 1956 this film was edited and released in the U.S. as Godzilla, King Of The Monsters. He later appeared in dozens of sequels, remakes, cartoons and comics. I wrote a conversion of Godzilla for Champions 4th edition role playing game at http://mathew.fcpages.com/csgodzilla.html. Godzilla was also referenced in Reptile Boy by Xander.

  5. Lilah: ''...but not everybody ends up in a dog food processing plant in San Pedro!''
San Pedro, California has it's own web site at http://www.sanpedro.com/.

    Tequila
  6. Cordelia: ''Vampires, Sloth demons, you know what's really really evil? Tequila.''
Tequila is a Mexican liquor made from fermented juices of an Agave plant.

  7. Lilah: ''Killed about a dozen demons, lite up Darla and Drusilla like a Christmas tree.''
A Christmas tree is an evergreen or artificial tree decorated, as with lights and ornaments, during the Christmas season.

Continuity

  1. Cordelia: ''Previously on Angel.''
Judgement - The host of Caritas asks Angel to sing. Wesley explains how the host reads people's souls.
Darla - Angel draws pictures of Darla.
The Trial - Angel promises to stay with Darla. Drusilla breaks in and drains Darla.
Reunion - Darla and Drusilla break into Holland's party. Lilah and Holland beg for Angel to help. Angel doesn't care and the vamps feast. The crew tell Angel he's getting dark and they are fired.

    Yeska
  2. Wesley: ''Your father tired to sacrifice you to the goddess Yeska.''
Guise Will Be Guise - Wesley met Virginia when he pretended to be Angel and was hired as her bodyguard. He then saved her from her own father when he tried to sacrifice her to a demon for power.

  3. Hunt: ''Mr. McDonald, your conduct with this firm had proved spotty at best. You've stolen files, co-operated with our enemy, disobeyed orders time and again.''
Blind Date - Lindsey helped Angel steal files from the Wolfram & Hart vaults in order to learn the target of the assassin Vanessa Brewer. He then used the files to keep Wolfram & Hart from going after him.

    Bethany
  4. Hunt: ''Mrs. Morgan, when you drove away the telekinetic Bethany Chaulk, you lost for us a powerful potential assassin.''
Untouched - Lilah attempted to recruit Bethany, but Angel was able to show her Wolfram & Hart were evil and she left them.

Goofs

  1. As Angel walks down the stairs in the Hyperion lobby, you can see his reflection in the glass doors behind him, despite the fact that he is a vampire and should cast no reflection.

  2. After Angel kills the vampires in the sewer, he walks down the sewer and you can see his reflection clearly in the puddles below him again.

    Points Of View

    Mathew:

If I prefer one of Angel's many personalities over the others, this is it. Finally he at least it trying to kill his opponents. Too bad the powers that be (a.k.a. the writers) saved Darla and Drusilla once again. The scene where Angel burns them is just wonderful.
