Story Line

Faith appears when Buffy goes to her hotel room as her mother requested. After Faith has admitted Buffy to her room, Buffy notes Faith's Christmas lights. Faith replies with "Yeah, well, 'tis the season. Whatever that means." An uncomfortable silence follows until Buffy awkwardly asks Faith if she'd like to come over for Christmas. Faith figures that Joyce has sent Buffy and tells her so. She then proceeds to unconvincingly tell Buffy she has a party to go to but thanks her for the invite anyway. Buffy, accepting her answer, then leaves.

When next we see Faith, it's at Buffy's front door. She's obviously thought the whole thing through and would most likely love to be on a nice family Christmas. Buffy is glad she came (as are we all). Touchingly, once invited in, Faith then proceeds to give Buffy two gifts, saying "They're crappy". Joyce finally makes it to the hallway, and Buffy shows her mother the gifts, cueing Faith to once again announce they're crappy. Joyce seems genuinely glad to see Faith also. Telling Faith she has a gift for her too, Buffy proceeds upstairs. Upon reaching her room, she sees a disoriented Angel. After some incoherent mumblings Angel leaves via the window. More than concerned, Buffy races downstairs after him. She asks Faith to look after her mom while she goes after Angel, promising to fill Faith in later (a lesson learned in Revelations). Faith responds that she's ". . .happy to play watchdog" but is obviously concerned and confused about what's happening (hence Buffy's promise). At the end of a heart-wrenching (and wonderfully acted by Sarah and David) episode, when it begins to snow, both Faith and Joyce venture out the front. The whole end is very moving.
