Bad Girls Episode Guide

Story Line

The episode opens with Faith and Buffy slaying almost by rote! In fact, the two are discussing Xander while fighting. It seems Faith isn't forgetting about him. She actually wants to make sure the coast is clear for her to proceed with him and not encroach on a potential Buffy/Xander relationship. Thinking both have taken care of business, Faith moves to go, telling Buffy "You think too much." Buffy stops her, noting more footprints, she tells Faith there are still more vamps. Asking what makes her think that, Buffy replies: "I think too much." She also chides Faith when the slayers are meant to attack on Buffy's count of '3'. Faith goes on '2'. Telling Faith: "1-2-3 isn't a plan, it's Sesame Street!" It's intriguing because 'zesty' as Faith is, when the going got rough, Faith would defer to Buffy. Not this time though. This is setting up the crunch of the episode and, in a way, Faith's whole turnaround.

The next day sees Buffy and Giles sucking lemons as new watcher Wesley is making himself at home. Laughter comes (for the viewer) when Buffy asks Giles if he's evil and Giles replies: "Not in the strictest sense of the word, no." Wesley informs them that he knows all about the Gwendolyn Post episode (see Revelations). Enter Faith, who, upon seeing Wesley, asks if he's the new Watcher. When both Giles and Buffy reply he is, Faith merely says: "Screw that" and does an about face. Buffy quips that she wishes she could be like that, and upon Giles' gentle insistence, goes after Faith. She catches up with her and tells her he may be a dork, but he is their Watcher. Faith doesn't care. She doesn't want anything to do with him. When Buffy's asks about the new vamps, Faith smiles and tells her "You do the homework, and I'll copy yours." This is actually a nice Faith moment (although not for Buffy). It gives you a tiny peek at what Faith may have been like pre-slayer.

Buffy does do the homework, finding out that the vamps they fought last night are known as 'the Eleminati'. According to Wesley, a duelist cult devoted to a now-dead vampire Balthazar. He believes they are looking for an amulet of his "probably for sentimental reasons" (hello?!). That night sees Buffy finding the amulet, but upon hearing the vampires, she leaves it where she found it and leaping into the crypt/coffin nearest the one she found it in.

When Buffy's sure that the vampires have left, she emerges from the coffin, only to be scared stupid by a stealthy Faith who, astounded that Buffy is hiding, asks: "Were you hiding in there?" Buffy says she was, as there were too many vampires. Always loving slaying, Faith brightens and goes after the vampires who have dropped down a manhole. Buffy urges her not to go, as neither has any idea how many are down there. Faith tells her that's the point! That's where the excitement comes in, and if Buffy doesn't follow her down, she may die! All said with eager anticipation I may add, not fear. Feeling obliged, Buffy follows the younger slayer down, where they do encounter more vampires. A fight ensues where Buffy is almost drowned (again!) and Faith, while in trouble at the crucial time of Buffy's dunking, finally breaks free. Buffy was faking though, and pops up out of the water. At this point, Faith is keen to go, but Buffy feels empowered (a crucial moment). She re-takes the amulet and slays the vampire.

The next day, Buffy tells Giles (and Wesley) what happened and hands the amulet to them. Then, to her dismay, she has to go do a test that she blew off a study session with an increasingly left-out and hurt Willow for, while slaying with Faith the night before. As the teacher is telling everyone that they can't talk and that they're on the honor system, Buffy cannot keep the previous night's excitement to herself, and tries to tell Willow and a twitching Xander all about it. But they can't talk and Buffy's frustrated because she knows they could never understand. As the test begins, Faith appears at the window, breathes on it, draws a heart with a stake through it, and smiles. Buffy can't resist the invite and, to Willow's horror, she abandons the test and follows Faith, who tells her she found a nest.

Hyped, Buffy can't wait to slay. Neither can Faith. Crashing through darkened windows, the two slayers make an entrance and do what they were chosen to do with relish. The next scene sees the two slayers having a blast at the Bronze. Angel tracks Buffy down to tell her that Balthazar is alive and well and in an abandoned warehouse. He notes the change in Buffy's behavio but says nothing except "be careful". At that point, Wesley finds Buffy, informing her she should tell him if she plans to leave the school. Buffy takes the amulet from Wesley and gives it to Angel, knowing that it'd be safer with him. For Wesley's part, he can't believe that so many people know she's the Slayer. Collecting Faith from the dance floor, both girls then head for the warehouse. Noting that Balthazar "is in desperate need of a Stairmaster", the girls believe they can take them. A tiny problem though: no weapons. Faith does a quick reconnoiter, and sees a store that's bound to have weapons. Cue breaking and entering and Faith's mantra 'Want-Take-Have'. This is important on two levels. One: It shows the damage that Post has done insofar as Faith has pretty much thrown any rules and regulations out the window. Two: To mere mortals, this may seems like stealing, but slayers are on a different playing field. If they need something ASAP--they better get it ASAP!

During their mini crime spree, Faith is taken with a long bow. She's about to grab it when the Slayers are well and truly caught by store security who tells the girls to 'spread 'em' to which Faith replies: "You wish!". Note that Buffy's "thinking too much" has gone. Otherwise she never would've gone in.

Riding in the back of the police car, Faith asks Buffy if she wants to escape, reasoning that they "can't save the world in jail." Buffy concurs, and they cause an accident and escape. Buffy wants to call an ambulance for the cops still in the car, but Faith reasons that loads of people would've heard the accident and probably already have called by now. Again, Buffy reluctantly agrees, and flees the scene with Faith. The next morning, an obviously worried Buffy flicks through the paper to see if there's a mention of their activities. Having quickly scanned the paper, Buffy slides it to her mom, and goes.

In the interim, an alienated and nervous deputy mayor decides that he can't go on with the Mayor's plans anymore. He decides to seek out the Slayers. As night falls once more, both Buffy and Faith head to the warehouse. Faith is toting her longbow. Buffy notes: "I can't believe you went back for that thing." Clearly, Faith really wanted it! Attempting to line up an arrow while walking, Faith and Buffy are attacked by Eleminati vampires. Slaying them fairly easily, Faith is still in slaying mode when poor Alan walks by. Buffy notices that Alan isn't a vampire and calls out to Faith, but Faith has already staked him. Both girls are horrified, but it's Faith who is in total shock repeating "I didn't know. I didn't know!" Awesome acting all around here. Buffy, fighting back tears, Alan sitting, dying and in shock, and Faith horror-stricken at what she's done. It's almost a suspension of time! Obviously, Alan dies and both girls flee.

Faith returns later and feels genuine remorse. You can tell that she can't quite comprehend what's happened. That she's praying for it to be some sick practical joke. Anything other than what it is. Clearly, she's thinking the whole thing through.

We don't see Faith again until Buffy visits her the next morning. She reluctantly invites her in and returns to hand washing the blood from her clothes. Buffy tries desperately to get Faith to agree to go to the police. Faith tells Buffy that they're only going to discuss this once. She proceeds to tell Buffy that: "There is no body. I took it, weighted it, and dumped it." Buffy, horrified, tells her that getting rid of the evidence doesn't make the problem go away. She emphasizes that "You don't get it! You killed a man!" Faith counters with: "No; you don't get it. I don't care!" While being an unwanted cliffhanger for the viewer, this is a perfect place to end. The screen fades to black and up comes the end titles.
