Revelations Episode Guide

Story Line

This Faith vehicle opens at the Bronze where we see the Scooby Gang discussing if Buffy is seeing someone. Enter Buffy who asks what they were talking about. She replies she is seeing someone "tonight in fact." Enter Faith. Clearly the two Slayers have come along leaps and bounds since Faith, Hope and Trick. When next we see them, they're dispatching vampires with expert precision. They think they're so good in fact, that the believe there should be a new Olympic category. It's a lovely amusing moment. A snatch of how close the two have become.

Catching the two girls off guard, not to mention a very laid back, page flipping Giles, is new Watcher Mrs. Gwendeloyn Post. She starts with a critique that isn't exactly singing their praises. Sufficiently gobsmacked, all three merely look on as she announces who she is and then demands to know which one of the Slayers is Faith.

Cut to the library and we find out that Post is something that the hellmouth spat forth. Or at least, she could have been. She disparages Giles and then Americans in general, all within minutes.

The only one who can give back as good as Post, is Faith. Dripping with sarcasm and calling her 'Mary Poppins' plus giving death glares that should reduce her to salt are all well justified. She informs Post that she has a problem with 'authority figures' as they tend to end up dead. Not in the least fazed, Post tells the group that a demon named Lagos is on the loose and he's looking for the Glove of Myhnegon. She says the demon must be killed and the glove destroyed. She then tells Faith to follow her, which, amazingly, she does!

That caught me a little of guard frankly. I thought she'd put up more of a fight. It seems that Faith may have a problem with authority figures, but she is still obedient when it comes to Post and one can only assume that she was with her previous watcher too. She also treats Giles with respect that everyone assumed she wouldn't.

When next we see Faith, she's on patrol with Buffy, talking about her ex boyfriends and how she arrived at her 'get some, get gone' philosophy. She then asks Buffy about her guys, as she's curious about what it's like to "boink the undead". This scene works on two levels. We establish that Faith doesn't have a high opinion of her ability to attract decent guys and figures she's a "loser magnet". It's a little odd that Buffy didn't rebutt that opinion, you'd think she would've. But Buffy's preoccupied with Angel.

Buffy is far from forthcoming with Faith's question. In fact, she borders on rude! Eliza plays this scene very well. The look she gives Buffy is a perfect mix of 'Did I go too far?' and 'Please tell me'.

Figuring she's most likely overstepped the mark, she volunteers to check the last cemetery alone. Buffy, only too anxious to get to Angel, takes her up on her offer. Indeed, Faith does fall across Lagos and makes a run for him. He makes short work of Faith, leaving her lying on the ground. This is a physical version of what happens to Faith throughout the episode emotionally.

The next day has the cruelest blow. Mrs. Post is surveying Faith's place and notes it's not quite a palace. Faith retorts that "the decorator just left." Noting that Faith appears to have an inferiority complex, Post makes her move. She tells Faith of the Spartans and their quarters, explaining to her that "a true fighter needs nothing else", because they were so focused on being great warriors. Indeed, Faith notes this and seems to cling to it. Post then informs her of how confounding she finds Giles. Faith defends him saying he's "OK". This whole scene is one of Eliza's finest acting moments. Faith's "OK" equals anyone else's most avid defense.

Post goes on to inform Faith of his 'secret meetings'. Faith is sufficiently down on herself to figure that: "Oh. Right. I guess that doesn't include me." Seeing that Faith's hurt, and she's done her job well, Post asks her if she'd like to train. Faith's hurt has quickly moved to anger and she says: "Training? As in kicking, punching, stabbing? I'm your girl."

Next we see Faith at the Bronze and she's not entirely of good cheer. Seeing Xander, she notes he "looks pissed". Xander says he is and informs Faith that Angel is back. Faith is astounded. Not only can she not believe the news, she also can't believe Buffy didn't tell her (although that is unsaid). Faith figures (with Xander's bias input) that Angel, who now possess the Glove, could ". . .kill a whole mess of people." Xander agrees and when he learns that Faith plans to kill Angel, he asks if he can watch. Both teens, fired up with hatred, proceed to the library where they pile up on weapons. A low moan floats up from behind the counter and Xander and Faith discover Giles laid out with head trauma courtesy of Gwendolyn Post, who, is after the glove herself. Convinced that Giles is a victim of Angel's, Faith concludes that there will be fatalities unless she gets to Angel ASAP(As Soon As Possible). She leaves Xander to care for Giles. Arriving at Angel's mansion, Faith sees Angel hovering over Post (who has been battling Angel for the Glove).

Always one to act first and ask questions later, and spurred on by Post, Faith tells Angel "I can't believe how much I'm going to kill you." And she's about to too, when she's stopped by Buffy. Buffy attempts to explain that things aren't what they seem. Still pissed, Faith informs her "You're confused Twinkie. Let me clear it up for you: Vampire (indicating Angel) Slayer, (indicating herself) Dead vampire."

Again, Post spurs Faith on by telling her Buffy's blinded by love. With no choice, Buffy takes Faith on. While the two Slayers are fighting, and Angel out for the count courtesy of Faith, Post makes for the glove. At this point Xander and Willow arrive, also believing Post is on the side of good, they attend to her. She tells Xander to go and help Faith who by now has taken the fight through the doors and outside. Faith merely tosses him aside. At this point, Post has knocked Willow unconscious and donned the glove. She starts her chant and lightening comes crashing through the mansion's roof (great camera work and effects). The glove acts like conduit, directing energy to where the wearer (Post) wants it to go. At this stage, finishing her work on Faith, Post actually pauses to tell her she's an idiot. This is another heartbreaking moment. Faith cannot believe she has been betrayed by everyone now. As in Faith, Hope, And Trick at crunch time, she pulls it together. Both Slayers duck a blast of energy. Buffy asks Faith if she can draw her fire. It's no problem and Faith races inside, another blast of energy just missing her as Post is intent on getting her. Buffy looks around and sees shards of glass that both she and Faith created as the crashed through the doors. Inspired, she picks up a large piece, quips and throws, severing Post's arm. The energy comes directly to Post herself and she's fried. Kudos to Serena Scott Thomas on making us loathe Post so much.

Faith, Buffy, Willow, Xander and Angel all practically form a circle around the glove and what's left of Post's arm. The glove unclenches itself and we fade to the next day.

Once more, the Scooby Gang are talking about Buffy's boyfriend. Everyone apologizes to Buffy for not believing in her. Giles informs them that Post was, indeed, a Watcher, but was thrown out for mis-use of black arts. It's interesting to note that Buffy has to make a special journey to Faith's place for "more damage control". Buffy tells Faith that her place looks nice. It should be noted that Faith replies with "Yeah, it's real Spartan." This isn't merely a rote reply, but a clue that (sadly) Faith has taken everything Post said to her on board.

Back to the scene, Buffy tells Faith that Post had them all fooled, but that's of little comfort to Faith, who replies that she should've known that she couldn't trust anyone. Laughingly, (or astoundingly) Buffy tells her that she can trust her! Faith considers it for a second, even calling her back, but then dismisses her with a "nothing". For her part, Buffy pauses on the stairs (since when did Faith's motel have stairs?) and thinks about going back in and, sadly for all involved but Faith especially, Buffy decides against talking to Faith anymore. Our last shot is a slow pullback of one very hurt, angry and lonely girl. Faith.
