Back in the Saddle
Joss Whedon is in talks to bring back the BUFFY TVS comic books with Dark Horse and continue both the BUFFY and ANGEL universes there. Whedon told Zap2It that he's also had some discussions about a tv movie or spinoff, but he said he'd only do it if he had a good idea and he could get enough of the original cast and crew back to make it worthwhile. "I'd rather stop now than do anything by halves," he said. Whedon added, however, "I just don't believe that the Buffyverse is dead." Whedon also said that he has a deal with 20th Fox to develop more TV in the future and, he dropped by the Bronze Beta to say that he might have something in the works with HBO.

Feisty Fans' Fight to Save Angel Most Likely Futile
When "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" spin-off "Angel" got staked by the WB Network Wednesday, it was the end of an era for television. But creator Joss Whedon's series won't be dusted without a fight. Fans have launched a "Save Angel" Web site, signed petitions and bombarded the WB and its advertisers with postcards, phone calls and e-mails. They're even begging other networks to adopt the show.

Angel is off the air, but Joss Whedon's Buffyverse may live on
After fighting the forces of evil for eight seasons - three on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and five on his own series, Angel - the heroic vampire Angel has left the airwaves. And this fall, for the first time since 1997, there will not be a show set in series creator Joss Whedon's "Buffyverse." Many fans of the two shows are left wondering, where do we go from here?

Angel's Gone, But Not Whedon
The final episode of The WB's Angel has aired, but series co-creator Joss Whedon told Zap1it that the show's finale doesn't mark the end of the "Buffyverse," referring to the universe created in Angel's predecessor series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Whedon told the site that he's talking with Dark Horse Comics about reviving the Buffy comic-book series and making that a place where the two shows' mythology lives on.

West Wing Dips, Angel Soars
Did Donna? We won't know till next season, but we know this now: Angel's series finale Wednesday was more affecting than The West Wing's season finale.

Not Fade Away
Joss Whedon's thoughts on the end of Angel. Angel ended its acclaimed five year run in America last night with the episode Not Fade Away.

Joss Whedon's last show bows Moving end to an era of smart TV.

Whedon's War
Joss Whedon, the creator of the late lamented Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its freshly staked spinoff Angel has built his career on metaphors. Using genre conventions like vampires and demons, he concocted a Buffyverse where high school really was hell.

Here's a one-line summary for Season 6 of "Angel," courtesy of series co-creator Joss Whedon: "If you buck the system and do your best to make it collapse, what if it does?"

Commentry: Angel Fans Time to Let Go
There are some things I wouldn't wish on anybody. And being an undead guy approaching 300, doomed to spend eternity ruing past evils, nearly getting vanquished daily, never getting to enjoy certain pleasures, and being prone to sprouting fangs is one of them.

Although his "Angel" series has now officially been staked, don't expect writer/director/producer Joss Whedon's imagination and passion for breathing life into exciting characters to turn to dust.

Slayed: Series Creator Bemoans Death of Angel
Fans of WB's Angel, be warned. When the Buffy the Vampire spinoff concludes its five-year run tonight at 9 on WLVI (Ch. 56), it will not have a warm, fuzzy, I-decided-not-to-move-to-Paris kind of Friends ending. (Spoilers in article.)

TV Best Bets
Angel (9 p.m., WDWB-TV, Channel 20, WB). Series finale. Angel (David Boreanaz) and the crew take on those dirtbags of evil from the Circle of the Black Thorn. But first, the Big A tells everyone to enjoy the day as if it were their last. Hey, moody dude, it is. After five seasons, your "Buffy" spin-off license has been terminated. Que sera sera.

Angel Calls it a Night
No matter how Angel ends its five-year run Wednesday night, fans of Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff aren't going to be happy. (Article contains spoilers.)

Angel Series Finale Review
After five precarious seasons, Angel goes out like the ornery rock star showcase it might have been. Never assured of continued life from one year to the next, the series spun off from the beloved Buffy, and lingered on the WB even after the mama-show took off to (briefly) grateful UPN. (Spoilers)

The End of Angel
Angel creator Joss Whedon -- whose efforts to remake the show this year boosted ratings and garnered continued critical acclaim, only to see it canceled by the WB network regardless -- says the theme of the closing installment is "keep on fighting." (The WB is a division of Time Warner, which also owns CNN.)

:: Saving Angel News
Angel Fans on the Capitol
I've got a special message from a group of Angel fans who need your help!

We are about saving the television show "Angel." We believe that the end of its fifth season is too close for the writers to give it a dignified conclusion. We are two kinds of "Angel" fans - the DC area fans are willing to form a peaceful protest across the street from the Capitol building to gain publicity for fans worldwide, and the rest of the group are the fans that are being represented and want to show their support and share creative ideas for the protest.

THIS MEANS THAT ALL "ANGEL" FANS NEED TO JOIN IMMEDIATELY!!! We have decided the starting date of the rally will be Sunday, May 30th, 2004 and it will run from 11:00 AM to 05:00 PM.

RSVP to IrishCKLove@aol.com ASAP! We are trying to raise $300. All $300 is going to be used for the flyers, posters, and the postcard. We are going to be making, and putting flyers up all over VA, DC, and Maryland. We also are going to have a postcard stand where people can write postcards to the different postcard targets. Thank you for any donations. If you are coming to the rally, or have any comments, email me at savetheangel2000@yahoo.com.

Father of All Vampires Mourns Show
Joss Whedon took the cancellation of Angel very hard. As always, he's willing to ease his pain by sharing it. Who is going to make us take our bitter, healing medicine now that the Buffyverse is closed for business? For eight years and a total of 12 television seasons, Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and the spinoff series Angel, has given the audience, as he once declared, not what we want but what we need. (Spoilers for final episode.)

Hah!
Just as I predicted in the Bite Back forum, Spike may get his own ANGEL spinoff tv movie and possibly series, according to Moviehole. "Marsters is pretty keen to keep on being Spike," said the scooper. "You can’t blame, it’s a cool character. They’re looking at shaping the telemovies around him, only because Boreanaz isn’t that interested, not because Spike’s the more appealing option. Best case scenario for everyone: telemovies go off, Spike gets a series. Whedon’s taking a break at the moment though, so don’t expect anything official for a couple of months.” Meanwhile, a scooper over at AICN says that the NBC proposal was completely false.

Shadows of Nixing
Simon over at SavingAngel pointed me to a post over on the WB's message boards. Simon commented, "[It] leaves fans to wonder just how senseless The WB was in canceling ANGEL before nailing down what execs imagined would be a suitable "replacement vampire show." Angel may be a tortured 245-year-old vampire with a soul, but his portrayer, David Boreanaz, is about as angst-free as actors come. As series creator Joss Whedon once told TV Guide, "David takes things in stride, and those of us who don't know how to stride are confused." During a break in shooting Angel's series finale (airing May 19 at 9 pm/ET), the ever-cool 33-year-old actor discussed why he's relieved to see his 5-year-old WB drama bite it, how he feels about star-crossed love Buffy's (Sarah Michelle Gellar) absence, and the chance he'll resurrect Angel for those rumored TV or DVD movies. Direct-To-DVD Series Impossible? Just Think Outside The (Cable) Box
First of all, fans would be more likely to give an unknown series a look if it came from a respected, name producer. Joss Whedon, for instance, is such a celebrity producer. Not only are there fans of his shows like BUFFY, ANGEL, and FIREFLY; he has fans of his own – people who eagerly seek out whatever project Whedon’s associated with because they appreciate his unique storytelling ability. (And, after getting burned on, first FIREFLY and now ANGEL, I’d say Whedon’s probably in a better frame-of-mind than most to say, “To hell with the executives,” and give this crazy direct-to-DVD thing a try.)

:: Monday's Angel News
It's Goodbye to Angel, Parkers, The Practice
Of greater note is the two-part series finale of Angel (9 p.m. Wednesday and May 19, Ch. 20). The past few weeks, I've gotten a ton of e-mail about the show's demise, with many writers chastising me for not jumping on the Save Angel bandwagon. But the fact is that this fine, well-written series is dead after five seasons, and no amount of wishing, hoping or letter-writing is going to bring it back. (Although I wouldn't be shocked to see a made-for-TV movie with Angel and his cohorts -- and, possibly, members of the Scooby Gang from Buffy the Vampire Slayer -- turn up on the WB next season.) So let's just hope Angel has as strong a series finale as Buffy, which ended its run with a bang last spring. It's a show that will be missed.
