Serenity News |
Serenity Take my love. Take my land. Take me where I cannot stand. I don't care. I'm still free. You can't take the sky from me. The irony of the impossibly catchy Firefly theme song lyrics is that Fox Broadcasting did exactly that. After months of double speak and mixed messages in the dreaded form of network notes, The House That Murdock Built pulled the plug on one of its most ambitious programs. While certainly not the first such moronic cancellation by the network (I would list them all but you would get bored around the two dozen mark), Firefly was unquestionably one of the most puzzling. Even the most perfunctory evaluation of the Joss Whedon production would acknowledge Firefly to be a western-themed show set in the future in outer space. The natural incongruity of a throwback style of living several centuries from now is exactly the sort of liberated creativity that has made Whedon a cult icon. [Minor spoilers at the end of the article.] |

General News |
Fury Happy to Find Lost David Fury, co-executive producer of ABC's upcoming SF series Lost, told SCI FI Wire that he intended to develop his own show after the end of his last one, The WB's Angel, but that he couldn't pass up the new series co-created by J.J. Abrams (Alias). "I turned down everything this year and had some nice offers, but nothing felt right to me," Fury said in an interview. "I wanted to spend more time at home and thought I was entitled to take a year off. It's a testament to J.J. and [co-creator] Damon Lindelof, because I had turned down Lost initially. It's only because they forgot that they tried me again. I decided I owed them the courtesy to see the pilot, and it was great! I decided to meet them, and I was totally seduced." |

Joss News |
Whedon Lands on the X? About a month ago, Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind Joss Whedon publicly declared an interest in taking on the next X-Men movie now that Bryan Singer has traded mutants for a cape and a big "S". Was someone at Fox listening? If the industry newscatcher Production Weekly is to be believed (and I'm told they're rarely wrong, if ever), ears were indeed open, and wise decisions were made. According to them, Whedon is onboard to direct X3, with the production gearing up in Vancouver next June. |

General News |
Lost's Secrets Hinted David Fury, co-executive producer of ABC's upcoming SF series Lost, told SCI FI Wire that one of the most mysterious characters on the new series about plane crash survivors stranded on a mysterious South Pacific island is the island itself. "It is very interesting and has its own mythology that will hopefully unfold over many seasons," Fury (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) said in an interview. "We are hearing and seeing very odd occurrences, like a polar bear on the island. How does something like that happen in the South Pacific?" |

Angel Merchandise News |
Angel Season 4 DVD Review 2002 was a banner year for Joss Whedon. His best-known creation, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, was soldiering on in its seventh season, and as that series was coming to a close, Whedon's sci-fi-inflected western Firefly made its debut. Although Angel may not have been lavished with quite as much press as either of those series, its fourth season was perhaps the strongest of its five year run on the WB and marked some of Mutant Enemy's most exemplary work to date. |

Eliza News |
Top Ten Hot Superheroes #5 Eliza Dushku Eliza Dushku stumbled into acting when she was barely 10 years old. Tagging along to her older brother's audition, the youngster fell, got a bloody nose and was so dramatic about her injury the casting director noticed, and Dushku's acting career was born. As a teenager, she cut her teeth onscreen with Leonardo DiCaprio in "This Boy's Life" and with Arnold Schwarzenegger in "True Lies." She was tapped to play evil Faith in a handful of episodes of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," but her nasty character was so popular that the part was rewritten as a recurrent role. Dushku continued her slayer role in "Angel," a popular Buffy spin-off before setting her sights back on Hollywood. |

Angel News |
Angel Nominated for Legacy Award The votes have been tallied, and the nominations are now made for the 2nd Annual About Primetime TV Quality Television Awards. This year's nominees are not as surprising as last year, but they still present some pretty tight races in a variety of categories. Easily the most difficult competition is found in the Legacy Award category which honors the best retiring series. With the amazing quality of all five nominees, it will be interesting to see what long-running program the voters ultimately decide to reward. |

David Boreanaz News |
Boreanaz Denies Rumors Former Angel star David Boreanaz denied to SCI FI Wire several rumors swirling on the Internet involving his casting in some high-profile projects. The latest buzz had Boreanaz attached to the fourth Indiana Jones film in development. But Boreanaz said in an interview that the talk is incorrect, even though he would love to be considered for it. "That goes up there with the Superman and Batman rumors," he said. "It would be something I would die to do. Harrison [Ford] is a big idol, and I'd love to take the path that he took. That would be fantastic." |

Angel News |
Canceled Shows: The Dearly, or Merely Departed When it comes to launching shows, the percentages do not favor victory. The cancellation list below recaps what befell most of the dramas and sitcoms unveiled with great fanfare last season. Some older series also were laid to rest in the graveyard of dashed TV dreams. As in life, television's great paradox is that while nobody knows exactly what creates success, it's easy to dissect failure. |
