Tom Lenk News |
Will You Be My Special Friend? Review Ever since the late great television milestone “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” spawned “Angel,” an equally successful spin-off from one of its core characters, talk of continuing yet another character’s journey through a separate entity has yet to cease among both fans and the shows’ creative teams. During the last four years of “Buffy,” creator Joss Whedon expressed interest in recounting the disobedient past of earnest Watcher Giles with “Ripper,” and new chapters concerning everyone’s favorite rogue Slayer, Faith. While both potential spin-offs make way for more adventure, comedy, soap opera, and all other things Whedonesque, another “Buffy” cast member, Tom Lenk, may have struck a bit of gold with his new comedy stage show “Will You Be My Special Friend?” |

Nathan Fillion News |
Fillion Flies Again in Serenity Nathan Fillion, star of the upcoming SF movie Serenity, told SCI FI Wire that he's enjoying the transition to film from his canceled Fox series Firefly. "Yeah, it's a little different," Fillion said during a break in filming on the film's Universal Studios set last August. "We had eight days to put on a one-hour show. Now we've got the better part of three months to put out a two-hour show. So the timing is a little different. But certainly I can tell that the quality is also extremely different." |

BtVS News |
BtVS Mobile Game Review The end of 2004 saw a surprising upswing in the quality of licensed games. The category in mobile gaming had been iffy at best, but some late-breaking hits stemmed us from immediately groaning whenever we saw a licensed title appear on the decks. The India-based developer/publisher has been responsible for a few licensed games of its own, from the superlative Predator to the dismal Garfield. Will their new Buffy the Vampire Slayer title, due on handsets very shortly, keep this exciting trend alive? |

Angel News |
IDW to Publish Angel Comics IDW Publishing will publish comic books based on the former WB television series Angel, editor-in-chief Chris Ryall told The Continuum. Although plans are still being firmed up, IDW will likely kick off the property with a mini-series that starts in May or June. "It'll be set at some point after the show ended," Ryall said. "We'll also do a couple one-shots that spotlight other characters and have more minis beyond the first one." No creative teams have been announced, although it should be noted that former IDW editor-in-chief Jeff Mariotte, who now contributes to the publisher as a free-lance writer, has written Angel novels. |

Joss Whedon News |
The Least Worst of 2004 Best reason to pick up comic books again: Writer Joss Whedon and artist John Cassaday on "Astonishing X-Men" (Marvel Comics). Joss Whedon didn't let the end of "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer," and the abrupt conclusions of "Angel" and "Firefly" extinguish his creative spark. Instead, his team-up with in-demand artist John Cassaday reinvigorated the comic book industry. Following up Grant Morrison's brilliant character deconstruction during his "New X-Men" run, Whedon frames the team as superheroes starting over, complete with new costumes and big surprises. The dialogue flows smoothly from witty to sarcastic to deadly serious. Whedon and Cassaday's first six-issue story arc is now available in trade paperback "Astonishing X-Men Vol. 1: Gifted." |

Alan Tudyk News |
Alan Tudyk Talks Serenity I usually get a few comments from actors about their upcoming comments, but it’s rare that you get basically a full interview while somebody’s promoting another film. To be fair, I will present Alan Tudyk’s interview for I, Robot later this week. But for now, here’s all he had to say about Serenity, the feature length film based on the short-lived TV series Firefly. Tudyk played the ship’s pilot, Wash Warren. On TV, the ship explored different worlds as a sort of space western, without aliens. Joss Whedon makes his feature film directing debut with the film, named after the ship. |

Serenity News |
A Look at Anticipated Films of 2005 At number 10 is Serenity - Being a sci-fi geek, I look forward to any upcoming space adventure. However, Serenity is unique because it comes from the cancelled TV series Firefly. The very fact that it could make the leap from cancelled series to the big screen is enough to get me intrigued. But recently I've been watching Firefly on DVD and I have to say that I can't wait to see what Joss Whedon and his cast does with a bigger budget. Think of it being like the adventures of young Han Solo. |

Angel News |
Angel Cliffhanger to be Resolved So what did happen in the last few seconds of the "Angel" season finale? Did they all die? All live and squash the big bad? Or merely just shake the big fire-breathing Dragons hand? - At last, we might finally find out. According to Silver Bullet Comics, a new "Angel" comic series is on the way, which looks like resolving some of the lingering cliffhangers from the series finale. |

Sarah M. Gellar News |
Gellar is a Bargain I read that Sarah Michelle Gellar got only $500,000 for her super-hit, The Grudge. How come she's paid so little compared to other major stars? Gellar actually got $600,000 for the film, but you're right in thinking she could hold a grudge if she doesn't do better with her next movie. The truth is, Hollywood is still not convinced that TV's vampire slayer has what it takes to put the bite on theater audiences. |

Angel News |
Angel HERC's Top Show of 2004 Fourteen episodes of “Angel’s” best and final season aired in 2004, including four astonishing five-star episodes: “A Hole in the World” (Fred bids Wes goodbye), Underneath (Hamilton, the new Wolfram & Hart liaison, arrives), “The Girl in Question” (Angel and Spike learn Buffy Summers has moved on) and “Not Fade Away” (Wesley Wyndam-Pryce shuffles off his mortal coil). Cordelia Chase departed for good, Harmony fretted, Connor redeemed, Gunn sacrificed, Knox was vanquished, Andrew and an army of slayers descended, Krevlornswath of the Deathwok Clan became this enormous badass and there were puppets, lots of puppets. “Angel” was the only Mutant Enemy series in production last season and it benefited mightily from creator Joss Whedon’s less-divided attention, to say nothing of the additions of Ben Edlund (“The Tick,” “Firefly”) and Drew Goddard (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) to its writing staff. By turns hilarious and heartbreaking, the spinoff’s fifth season rivaled in terms of quality even the best seasons of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (I have no greater compliment to bestow). The entire final season is available Feb. 15 via amazon.com for $38.99, and would be worth that price for “Not Fade Away” by its lonesome. It even sees the return of the peepee demon. Trust me when I tell you this: the Whedon owns all our asses. Even yours. |

Angel News |
Angel in Top 10 Shows of 2004 ANGEL: The final season of this Buffy The Vampire Slayer spinoff saw reformed vampire Angel (David Boreanaz) and his band of not-so-merry men and monsters — occult nerd Wesley, green-skinned Lorne, street-wise Gunn and Britpunk vampire Spike — assume control of demonic law firm Wolfram and Hart and, in the end, choose to be destroyed rather than corrupted. The same could be said for executive producer Joss Whedon and The WB, which inexplicably axed the show. |
