Angel News |
50 Best Episodes of 2004 4. "angel: not fade away": The series finale of "Angel" was filled with tons of great "holy shit" moments - Illyria's reaction to Wesley's death alone should be required watching for everyone - but the closing moments cut right to the heart of what the show has always been about: the good fight (and the quest for redemption itself) is always a constant struggle. |

Buffy & Co Changed How Teens Talk. A Lot Television heroine Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, has been an unlikely source of language change. In his book, Slayer Slang, A Buffy the Vampire Slayer Lexicon, Michael Adams tells how this unconventional teen challenged linguistic taboos and introduced new words and phrases in nearly every show. Slayer, witch, werewolf, vampire, commando, contractor, vengeance demon, supernatural force incarnate – in other words, they are all average kids, in average relationships, battling the forces of adolescent evil, personified, in Sunnydale at least, by vampires, demons, and monsters. They are also particularly adept speakers of American English, especially of slang. |

Tim Minear News |
Wonderfalls Completed on DVD Tim Minear, executive producer of Fox's canceled Wonderfalls series, told SCI FI Wire that the upcoming DVD set will include nine previously unseen episodes, in the order they were meant to be seen, which tell a full story. "Wonderfalls has a very specific arc, which ends at episode 13, so people will feel like they've had a complete experience," Minear said in an interview while promoting his upcoming Fox series, The Inside. "[We wrote it as a complete show] in the event only 13 got made and it went to DVD. So that was the plan. That was a conscious plan." |

Barry - The Demon Hunter If you like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, this may too hit the spot for you. Barry the Demon Hunter is a UK indie webshow in the same vein as Buffy and Angel. Priest by day, Demon hunter by night, Barry, fresh out of his long and lonely 10 years of training, has more trouble relating to reality and relationships than the creatures he meets at night, especially when he meets up with a troubled teenage girl, Brook, who is in need of his help. Inspired by the void left by the end of Buffy and Angel, Oliver McNeil, who stars, writes and directs, is creating his own unique world in which to tell his own supernatural stories. Each episode will run for about ten minutes and will only be show on the web. Oliver used to work in theatre, film and television (BBC) in many different areas. Most of his projects have been made quickly on a shoestring. His full time occupation is that of design and photography. |

Feminist Excess Revisited And here I thought this kind of rhetoric had withered away some 30 years ago, except for a brief flare-up in Naomi Wolf's 1991 bestseller "The Beauty Myth." But no. Never mind that in the intervening years, the equation of femininity with helplessness or submissiveness has been thoroughly exploded in popular culture. Our ideals of feminine beauty now include athletes and the strong heroines of television shows like "Alias," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," or "Xena: Warrior Princess," more than capable of holding their own against men. |
