Joss Whedon News |
Wonder Woman Returns Last week SciFi.com reported a delicious rumor that Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly, is in talks to write and direct a Wonder Woman movie. To say I'm tickled pink (or is it red, white and blue?) at this prospect would be an understatement. It's about time the superhero genre's own Princess Di had her feature-film debut. And if the Fates have their way, it's Whedon's destiny to bring this about. |

General News |
Ghosts?! Ghouls!? And Joss Whedon? An editor and a writer at Dark Horse, Scott Allie has plenty of projects up in the air right now. Between editing the new Dark Horse Book of the Dead, the on-going Conan series, and Hellboy, he's also hard at work on a miniseries prequel to Joss Whedon's Serenity. Fortunately, he devoted a few of his free moments to answering a few questions for Sequential Tart. (Also some info on Serenity prequel comics.) |

Angel DVD News |
Angel Season 5 DVD Review After four seasons, Angel had faced countless demons but couldn't conquer low ratings. Despite a faithful following, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off consistently ranked in the bottom half of the WB's line-up in terms of total viewers. Never mind the show had performed consistently in at least four different time slots; not enough new viewers were tuning in to watch the adventures of brooding detective/vampire with a soul Angel (David Boreanaz) and his ministers of grace Wesley (Alexis Denisof), Winifred "Fred" Burkle (Amy Acker), and Charles Gunn (J. August Richards). At the last minute, creator Joss Whedon and his team were able to wrangle another season, and the franchise known as the Buffy-verse earned a stay of execution. |

James Marsters News |
Spike TV Movie? Question: I think a Spike TV-movie would be great! — Teri. Ausiello: So, apparently, does James Marsters. In his first interview since I pitched WB president David Janollari the idea of doing a Spike telepic, the 42-year-old actor told my colleague, Ben Katner, that he's game for resurrecting his soulful Buffyverse counterpart "as long as I could do it within, say, the next four or five years; past that, I'm too old. Spike's a vampire, man, and I've got high standards — you have to believe that the guy has not aged since we met him. There's a little poetic license, but I don't want to get into a situation where the script says, 'Well, he was drinking pig blood and he aged,' you know? [Whatever Joss Whedon wrote] would be funnier than that — it would be delightful — but it would be taking away the coolest thing about a vampire, which is that he's iconic... he does not change." OK, Mr. Janollari — the ball is in your court. |

Angel News |
FCC Absolves Angel Simulated vampire sex is not bad for the kiddies--and that means Angel won't have to atone for its sins, according to the Federal Communications Commission. FCC regulators resoundingly rejected a complaint lodged by the Parents Television Council that argued that a love scene in the WB's now spiked Buffy spinoff violated federal indecency rules by showing a vampire biting her partner's neck. |

Sarah M. Gellar News |
Sarah's Romantic Comedy Finally Rolling Lance Khazei, who wrote the family comedy Son of the Mask, has written and will produce Romantic Comedy. "It's about a guy who watches famous romantic comedies to learn how to woo the girl of his dreams," says Khazei, who was a writer for the TV show Politically Incorrect. He originally offered the role of the girl to Sandra Bullock, but she was already committed to several projects. "For a while it was going to be Kate Hudson and Colin Farrell," says Khazei, who has finally signed Sarah Michelle Gellar for the female lead. Her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., was considering co-starring but he is now concentrating on developing a TV sitcom for himself. "Both Owen Wilson and his brother Luke Wilson have looked at the script and have expressed interest," says Khazei, who hopes to begin filming later this year. |

Tim Minear News |
DVD Review: Wonderfalls Over the past five years, Fox Broadcasting has had a reputation developing innovative and original series. Unfortunately, the “powers that be” at Fox have a tendency of running their new shows directly against the other networks’ heavy hitters, or bouncing them from one timeslot to another so that the show can never develop a following. Then after only a handful of episodes, the show is cancelled for lack of performances. It happened with “Firefly,” “Undeclared,” “Arrested Development” (okay that show got two seasons), “John Doe,” and it happened to an incredible little one-hour drama-edy show called: “Wonderfalls.” |

Marti Noxon News |
Point Pleasant in Trouble Given its nasty bloodbath of a time slot (Thursday nights at 9 p.m.) Point Pleasant's low ratings (four million viewers) aren't surprising, but they are unfortunate, given the series' recent creative uptick. "It's heartbreaking," creator and executive producer Marti Noxon (formerly of Buffy) told me. "We feel like we've really found our footing in the later episodes, and the show is sort of fading out...I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to say stuff like this, but I certainly think our chances of coming back are pretty slim if the ratings don't pick up. We need fresh eyes." If Marti's and my assertion that the show has improved isn't enough to make you tune in, maybe this is: She wants James Marsters (Buffy's Spike) for the second season. I'll give you the deets on that in this week's chat, after you set your TiVo for Point Pleasant. |
