James Marsters News |
Marsters on Spike & Dresden Movies Like Kenobi was the rebels last hope, Spike is the Buffy-world's closing chance. James Marsters appeared at Houston's Slayercon last week and announced that he's still very keen to reprise his role as bottle-blond bloodsucker Spike in a telemovie for the WB. "I’d be very interested. I LOVE the character. It would definitely be TV movie and not a motion picture. When I talked to Joss about it a while back, I told him if he does a Spike movie it needs to be in the next five years. Spike is an icon that doesn’t change. Even his wardrobe doesn’t change. That’s what an icon is. I mean otherwise I’ll be too old", says Marsters. "I love my face but it’s not the same as it was. I just want to get him to do it now".
The Art of Mimicking James reaches no.3 in the best of accents for Spike in BtVS. |

BtVS News |
BtVS 2nd Most Influential SciFi Show of the '90's Just take a look at the SciFi shows in your TV Guide right now and you’ll see why “Buffy” is one of today’s most influential shows. Without her, we wouldn’t have “Charmed,” or “Smallville,” or the recently cancelled “Point Pleasant”—heck, there’s a question as to whether “Alias” would have made it on the air without “Buffy” having made an example that others could emulate. What these other shows haven’t been able to imitate, as yet, is the fine writing that marks “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and turned it into one of TV’s most popular shows from 1997-2003. |

Your opening X-Men storyarc was utterly brilliant. It is my hope just to write an eighth as well as you, but Joss, may I call you Joss, you lost me. |

General News |
What With Kristin's Whedonverse Poll Results Spike It! Sure, the shows were called Buffy and Angel, but the results of our recent Whedonverse Poll prove that it's Spikey--James Marsters--who has the never-say-die, die-hard following. Granted, I'm not surprised by the winner, given the postcards, emails, fruit baskets and flowers over the past months (I also just received bags of M&M candies with "James Rocks" printed on them and am currently nursing an overly yummified stomach). |

Nicholas Brendon News |
More News on Kitchen Confidential Bonnie Somerville ("N.Y.P.D. Blue") is moving back to comedy in her latest project, as the actress has joined the cast of the Darren Star-produced comedy pilot. She'll reportedly play Mimi in the project, about a bad-boy, down-on-his-luck chef (Bradley Cooper) who takes over at a top New York restaurant and must fight off all the urges of his former lifestyle. Her character is described in the casting notice as: "Early-mid 20s. A gorgeous waitress at Bistro Pino. She is an intelligent, high-strung, uppity, manipulative, grasping young woman who is just waiting for Jack [Cooper] to fail - so she can take over the restaurant. We later learn that she is none other than Pino's daughter. Possible future love interest for Jack." Jaime King, Nicholas Brendon, Owain Yeoman and John Francis Daley also star in the project, which comes from executive producers Darren Star, David Hemingson, David Knoller and Jim Rosenthal and is set up at 20th Century Fox Television, New Line Television and Darren Star Productions. |

Joss Whedon News |
TV Guide's Ask Ausiello Question: Did Joss Whedon say anything about reviving Angel as a movie-of-the-week? — Chris Ausiello: Yeah, but it seems that ship has sailed. These days, he's all about the Spikester. "The thing is, David Boreanaz has kind of gone to a new place," Whedon said. "He did the series for five years and the character for a couple of years before that [on Buffy], and the thing about a Spike movie that's different is, well, it's different. In the same way Angel was different than Buffy as a show because of the characters, Spike would be different as a subject and that's what makes it fresh. I don't want to try to recapture the essence of something that I've already done. I want to put a new spin on it." |

Angel News |
Final Battle & Redemption There's nothing tougher than being part of a cult hit, especially if its' one of the most scrutinized in recent pop culture history. Which is why it's such a surprise that "Angel's" final, gone-before-its-time fifth season packs such a punch. A heady cocktail of influences - including film noir, heroic quests, action dramas, and the supernatural vampire genre, with a little bit of pilfering from Batman thrown in - "Angel" hits a pretty big stride, triumphantly emerging from under the shadow of its sister series, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," in both theme and scope. |
