Gloomy, Moody Shows Brighten Summer TV
You want dark? “The Inside” is murkier than a sludge-filled sewer. On paper, it’s “Law and Order: Serial Killers,” a run-of-the-mill cop show about the FBI’s Los Angeles-based Violent Crime Unit. But in the hands of quirkmeister Tim Minear (“Angel,” “Firefly,” “Wonderfalls”), “The Inside” is “Se7en”-lite, an unapologetically dark and moody look at sickos, psychos, and the people who track them down.

Angel The Curse #1 Review
Normally, I’m not the world’s biggest fan of media tie-in comics. I was a huge Star Wars fan as a kid, but could never totally get into the Marvel series (I did enjoy Dark Empire, though). And frankly, inasmuch as I’m a big fan of both Buffy and Angel from TV, I never really got into those regular series in a big way either. Still, the move to IDW made me curious, and up-front publicity that indicated that this story takes place after the cataclysmic season 5 finale forced me to pick it up. With all that in mind, Angel: The Curse is one of the strongest tie-ins I’ve read in a long time.

Stakes Appear High for Buffy Convention
In every generation, there is a chosen one. Since the final episode of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" two years ago, some people may have forgotten who that chosen one was. This weekend, more than 200 fans will gather in Sacramento to remember. The show, about a former cheerleader who battled evil, ran for seven seasons, first on the WB and later on UPN. "What the show touched on for a lot of people is the empowerment of the individual," said Ginger Graves, a night pharmacist in Bangor, Maine, and one of the convention's organizers. "Sometimes, you get an intellectual conversation about it. Sometimes, you're like, 'Go, girl kick butt!'"

Project Big 3-Oh!
It's now less than a month to Andy Hallett's 30th Birthday on 4th August so I wanted to remind everyone of the ongoing project between http://nudechocolatelornesociety.com and http://andyhallettuk.com. NCLS has been running projects throughout the year and you can send in postcards, gifts and birthday cards and both NCLS and AH UK have virtual ecards. It doesn’t matter which card you sign as all of the messages will be collected together and given to Andy. I’m pleased to say AH UK launches their ecard today and you can download banners, buttons and postcards to support the project.

Thor Reviews Serenity #1
In the spirit of full disclosure, it’s only fair to tell you that I’m an enormous fan of Joss Whedon’s Sci-fi Western Firefly. Not only is it the best show that Whedon’s created, but it’s also one of the better genre shows of the past ten years – far superior to current “it” shows Battlestar Galactica and Lost. Firefly was a brilliant amalgamation of science fiction and Western conventions. It was incredibly well written – exciting, humorous and moving – and it was a hell of a lotta fun.

TV Heroes: Noy Just for July 4th
Buffy Summers, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer": Her tombstone on the series said it best: "She saved the world/A lot." And she did it at a tremendous personal price, not because there was something in it for her, but simply because she understood that's what she had been put on Earth for in the first place.

News from Tim on "The Inside" and Comic Con
Okay, gang, here's what I do know...While the network hasn't said to me that they won't order more episodes, it sure does shake out that way. On Thursday they needed to extend their options on the cast and decided not to. Considering it would have been chump change for them, it basically means we're done. I'm not ready to start hawking the 13 episode DVD set -- because I'm hoping it's gonna be a 15 episode set, including the two, you counted right, TWO! unaired pilots. I'm pretty convinced the same thing that happened with a lot of the non-believers here with Wonderfalls and Firefly will happen if they get a chance to see the full 13 (well, 15).

Amid Rabid Fanship, a Shot at Serenity
On May 26, rabid sci-fi fans filled a sold-out theater in Aventura for a screening of a hotly anticipated new movie. The demand for seats was so great, theater staff even wheeled in a few desk chairs to accommodate the overflow. When the lights dimmed and the projector began its telltale murmur, wild cheers spontaneously erupted -- only to be quickly extinguished by urgent shushing. This audience was not willing to miss a single moment of what was about to unspool, even if it meant stifling their audible delight.

An Interview with Joss Whedon
Joss Whedon should need little introduction. Oscar winning writer (for Toy Story), creator of the fantastically successful Buffy the Vampire Slayer and spin off Angel, and now movie director with the forthcoming Serenity and then Wonder Woman. Oh and as a sideline he’s been writing Astonishing X Men for Marvel Comics with John Cassaday on art. On with the questions as Joss talks about men, women and his deep dark secret that only this interview could pull from his tortured soul.

Summer-time for Kitty Pryde
In a posting at his official site's message board, writer-director Joss Whedon, himself a one-time contender for X-Men 3 and a writer on The Astonishing X-Men comic, reveals that 23-year-old actress Summer Glau has auditioned for the role of Kitty Pryde in X3.

Summer Glau for Kitty Pryde in X3?
Writer/director Joss Whedon (the upcoming Wonder Woman) has commented on rumors that his "Firefly" and "Serenity" star Summer Glau is up for the role of Kitty Pryde in X-Men 3, now that "Lost" star Maggie Grace is no longer on board. Whedon posted the following on the "Serenity" official site's message board.

Review: Finding Serenity – Analyzing a Celebrated Failure
Mal. Zoe. Jayne. Wash. Inara. Simon. River. Kaylee. Reverend Book. Serenity. If those 10 names don't leave you shaking your head at the stupidity of FOX Network executives, Finding Serenity isn't the book for you. Finding Serenity is a collection of essays exploring the short lived FOX Television series Firefly. The names are those of the cast and spaceship in Firefly. Trying to describe the series is nigh impossible. In the words of one essayist, the series is "the Old West transposed to the future, to interstellar space."

Maggie Grace Out of X-Men 3?
Maggie Grace (Lost) is out as Kitty Pryde. The production team has just issued a casting notice for the role. Ratner and Co. are a smart bunch because they're using the script to The Astonishing X-Men comic-book as sides. Wanna know the irony? The comic-book is written by Joss Whedon, who every fanboy dreamed of having writing and directing X-Men 3.

Amy No Longer in The Unit?
Just arrived back from the Quo'toth con which Amy was a guest. She was soo lovely and just brill. Amy told us though that CBS has recasted her role in 'The Unit' :(, couldn't believe it when she told us. Sooo looking forward to seeing that and Amy was really disappointed as she would have started filming next week.
Also Amy said that she was talking to Joss a couple of weeks ago and he said movies are definately on the cards, just don't know when

Alyson's Loose Again on the Set of "The Inside"
No one will let me poke the 900lb cannibal with a stick. And my morbid curiosity is killing me. It’s not like he could do much but flail his beefy arms, helplessly, even if I did. But I’ve been told that the 900lb cannibal cost $130,000 before salary, and I’m not allowed to put a dent in him. Allstate doesn’t offer a comprehensive plan on collision with a fat suit.
