Charisma was Up for a Role in Kitchen Confidential
Told me she was up for Bonnie Somerville's role on Kitchen Confidential ... as BRADLEY COOPER's LOVE INTEREST (yes, no better role) but that Gail Berman put the kabash on her hiring, then left five days later. Love CC. She'll tell me anything. Also is DYING to play Wonder Woman. And looking ridiculously hot for a new mom. More when I get a chance to transcribe!

Is Firefly the New Trek?
When you're an executive producer and creator of a science-fiction television series, usually you pack up your desk and move on to your next endeavor if you hear the fateful words that you've been cancelled. That is, of course, unless your name is Joss Whedon. After thrilling and entertaining television audiences for years with programs like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, Joss Whedon -- writer/director/producer extraordinaire -- turned to his trusty team during the 2002 pilot season and decided he was going to do it all over again with Firefly.

:: James Marsters News
Spike vs. Superman?
Blondie Boy's returning to the Box - again, at the Frog. Former "Buffy" and "Angel" star James Marsters has signed on the straight line to play the evil Brainiac in a multi-episode stint on TV's "Smallville". Marsters will wear the trousers of college professor Milton Fine, alter ego of the classic Superman foe Brainiac. Possessed of a vast, superior knowledge limited only by his hubris and emotions, Brainiac comes to earth armed with a secret about Clark's biological family and the truth about Krypton's demise. Brainiac's presence in Smallville will have a devastating effect on Clark and Lex's already deteriorating friendship.

Mal-Content Vindicated for Big Screen Break
You figure it would take a lot to flummox Captain Mal, a man of deadpan wit whose worst suspicions about everything keep getting confirmed as he shepherds his spaceship through the lawless extremities of the firmament. Even world-weary Mal, however, might be jarred out of the cog of his low expectations by the route that has brought a cancelled Fox TV sci-fi western series called Firefly to a major Hollywood incarnation on the big screen -- via an international cult following.

:: David Boreanaz News
The Crow: Wicked Prayer Falls to Pieces
The sad thing is I like Edward Furlong and David Boreanaz, the two leads that face off as The Crow and Death. But there wasn't really a hope for a movie as cobbled together as this one was. Furlong couldn't figure the story out, either, and plays the character unevenly. Boreanaz played Death with over-the-top zeal and pizzazz, but they were all tricks I'd seen him do before on "Buffy" and "Angel," with much more success. Tara Reid is, well, Tara Reid, looking blankly into the screen as she tries to pull off lines about seeing things, or not seeing things, but taking eyes so she could. I couldn't quite follow, and I gave up completely on her character.

:: James Marsters News
Thank You WB, for Spike-ing Your Fall TV Schedule
James Marsters is back, ladies and gentlemen -- well, mostly ladies, from what I can glean from your e-mails. At some point last week, I began receiving a number of requests as to whether the actor formerly known as "Buffy's" boy toy Spike would be showing up on the tube again soon.

Marsters Stakes Claim to Smallville
For all the things vampire Spike was on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," one thing he typically was not was the sharpest stake in the drawer. That's about to change for the man who played him, James Marsters. Marsters will join the cast of "Smallville" this season, playing a classic villain from the DC Comics universe: Professor Milton Fine, better known as Brainiac. The WB confirmed a percolating rumor of Marsters' casting Friday (July 22) at the Television Critics Association press tour.

Brainiac in Smallville!
Two big names have signed on to appear in Smallville's fifth season, as confirmed by a Tribune Entertainment "WB Bits 'n Bytes" newsletter. James Marsters ("Spike" from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel) will be appearing on Smallville playing a character very familiar to comic book fans. The newsletter says that he will be playing the character of Brainiac. How he will fit into Smallville continuity should be interesting to see.

:: Michelle Trachtenberg News
Buffy Sis Dives Back into TV
Consider it a new dawn for the career of Michelle Trachtenberg — who played Buffy's kid sister, Dawn, on Buffy the Vampire Slayer — for the goth drama's final three seasons. Since bidding Sunnydale adieu, Trachtenberg has sought out a wide variety of new roles to play: a devil-may-care, accidentally incestuous teen in the raucous EuroTrip, a math-turned-skating prodigy in Disney's Ice Princess, the best friend of a rent boy in the dark indie Mysterious Skin. Now, she's back on television in The Dive from Clausen's Pier (premiering Monday at 9pm/ET), Lifetime's take on the novel about the impossible decisions a young woman named Carrie must make when her fiancé is paralyzed in a swimming accident.

Press Your Tidbits: Willow vs. Xander vs. Angel
The fall TV schedule will have a distinct Sunnydale feel to it. Alyson Hannigan (CBS' "How I Met Your Mother"), Nicholas Brendon (FOX's "Kitchen Confidential") and David Boreanaz (FOX's "Bones") are all starring in new shows, while Charisma Carpenter has landed a recurring part on UPN's "Veronica Mars." Hannigan and Brendon will be competing directly for viewers -- their shows are opposite one another at 8:30 p.m. ET Mondays. The former Willow says "How I Met Your Mother" and "Kitchen Confidential" film on the same lot, so she and Brendon have had the chance to talk some good-natured trash about which show will win the ratings battle.

Whedon Flock Ready for Firefly Resurrection
Now that "Star Wars," "Star Trek" and "The Matrix" are fading into the sunset, what will take their place in the hearts of sci-fi fantasy fans? TV auteur Joss Whedon and Universal Pictures are hoping that it's "Serenity," his movie version of 2002's aborted Fox space Western TV series "Firefly," which opens Sept. 30. Universal launched its grass-roots awareness campaign for Whedon's directing debut in April, recruiting Whedon's loyal fans to help sell "Serenity," which features the original "Firefly" cast. The studio previewed the rough cut nationwide in markets where "Firefly" performed best, culminating last weekend with a rousing screening at Comic-Con International, where Whedon and his cast conducted a panel for fans.

Serenity Trailer in Australia
The trailer for Serenity in Australia will be in cinemas nationwide from Thursday 28th July.

Whedon Out the Whispers & Rumors
Ok, first things first. Saw a little movie last night. "Serenity". You may have heard of it. Joss Whedon. Captain Tighpants. Spunky Engineer. Space meets Wild West thing. Based on a short-lived TV series. Since I'll be faced with a few more emails about my verdict between now and dusk - I'll just respond right here. It's good. Actually, it's great. It starts out a little leisurely, but really kicks in mid-way through, and the third act is pedal-to-the-metal action.

Angel No More, Boreanaz Talks Bones
This fall, David Boreanaz will trade in his role as a tough-guy vampire for that of a tough-guy FBI agent in the forensics drama Bones. The show, which won't have any supernatural elements, has some similarities to CSI and some to X-Files, Boreanaz said in an interview at Comic-Con.

:: Alyson Hannigan News
Witchy Woman Fun as Ever
On "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," Alyson Hannigan played a Jewish lesbian witch, and she used her soft-spoken delivery to eke out lines such as, "I'm so evil. And skanky. And I think I'm kinda gay." But "Buffy" wasn't a No. 1 show, so it took 1999's "American Pie" to introduce Hannigan to a nation of moviegoers.
