Serenity News |
UIP embraces in-game ads for promotion of major sci-fi films UIP International has signed its first ever in-game advertising deal, with a campaign to promote three movies over the next six months. The film distributor is to spend a six-figure sum on promoting three big-budget sci-fi films being released between October and the end of the year. All activity will be in the Anarchy Online game, running on the in-game ad network run by Massive Network. The three films are Doom (itself based on the hugely successful computer game), Aeon Flux, starring Charlize Theron, and Serenity, from director Joss Whedon, the maker of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. All three are being aimed at a young male audience. |

BtVS News |
A Buffy Fans Sinks her Teeth into Slayercon I'm embarrassed when I find myself talking about TV. Supposedly smart, college-educated people talk about current events, news segments on All Things Considered, award-winning books, New Yorker articles or cinema (art films, not blockbusters). They don’t talk about television shows and—for Seventh Heaven’s sake—definitely not shows on the WB. |

Joss Whedon News |
Whedon on Serenity Serenity, writer-director Joss Whedon’s feature film version of his short-lived TV series Firefly, hits theaters on September 30, and while Whedon is no stranger to ensemble casts – Serenity features nine main cast members – the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel says you’ve got to draw the line somewhere. Take the case of the currently shooting X-Men 3, which Whedon was in the running for as helmer at one point. |

Serenity News |
Clint's Review: Serenity When something’s badly wounded, it usually dies and…. stays dead. But in the case of "Firefly", a short-lived TV series that aired (out of sequence, mind you) for twelve short weeks in 2002, a knock on heaven’s door was met with no retort. The Sci-Fi Western was merely greeted by a ‘Closed – Come Back Later’ sign stuck on the pearly gates, and so, it promptly slid back down the white lights – and back to life for a second chance, or, lengthened existence. Bless those angelic fans. (Spoilers are all hidden for spoilerphobes.) |

Nicholas Brendon News |
Out of the Frying Pan One of the potentially worst ideas of the new TV season—turning Anthony Bourdain’s raunchy, spit-in-your-soup best seller Kitchen Confidential into a Fox sitcom—has proved to be one of the fall’s best surprises. Zippy, irreverent, and black-humored (someone’s finger gets chopped off in the pilot), the series is also chock-full of cult-show stars, including Alias’s Bradley Cooper (as “Jack” Bourdain), Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Nicholas Brendan as his pastry chef, and Freaks and Geeks’ John Francis Daley as a newbie cook. It’s Darren Star’s best effort since Sex and the City. |

Serenity Mal Action Figure Review After Joss Whedon finished up Angel and Buffy, he moved on to his version of the future - Firefly. I have to be honest, and admit that I never watched this show when it was on. It started out on Friday night, a night I never watch the tube, and then FOX did their usual bang up job of jerking it from night to night, pre-empting it for other stuff, and pretty much destroying any chance it had. |

Joss Whedon News |
Revenge of the Nerd Joss Whedon makes movies and television for people just like him. People for whom "culture" can encompass Shakespeare and comic books, John Ford and Stephen Sondheim, science fiction and teen melodramas. People who are obsessive but don't mind laughing at themselves too; who build their families out of friendships rather than obligations; and, well, people who like seeing small women kick butt, leaving a trail of up-ended cliches behind them. |

Serenity Merchandise News |
Serenity Reaver Figure Diamond Select Toys has released an image of the new 6" Reaver figure based on the characters from the upcoming Joss Whedon film SERENITY. The film centers around Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, who now ekes out a living pulling off small crimes and transport-for-hire aboard his ship, Serenity. He leads a small, eclectic crew who are the closest thing he has left to family – squabbling, insubordinate and undyingly loyal. |

Julie Benz News |
Millarworld Interviews Julie Benz Julie Benz is one half of a rare couple in Hollywood: both she and her husband have their own action figures. “And don’t forget the trading cards,” Benz says with a laugh. Fans know her as the demented Darla from the cult hit programs Angel and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, where she played a former prostitute turned vampire with a thirst for blood and mayhem. Benz also had a memorable role on Roswell. |

Angel Comic Book News |
Angel Cast Reunion When Joss Whedon’s classic character, Angel, returned to comics in the form of IDW Publishing’s Angel: the Curse miniseries, there was an anxious audience hungry for new adventures based on the character. The miniseries delivered, going back to press twice for issue 1, and was well received throughout its five-issue arc. What the series didn’t do was satisfy the hunger for new stories that included Angel’s supporting cast. Fans wanted more. And now they’ll have it. |

James Marsters News |
Marsters Talks Spike Telemovie Dread Central snagged a ticket to the Rue Morgue Festival of Fear a couple of days back and bumped into a certain distinctive-cheekboned vampire. James Marsters, currently shooting a batch of "Smallville" episodes, told attendees not to put too much stock into the rumours of a "Spike" telemovie - even though he is keen to play 'William the Bloody' again. "I am willing to put Spike to rest, but I would love to play him again," Marsters said. "There are constant rumblings in the background that there would be a project that would have that happen. I have been approached on the periphery about it, kind've like, 'We're not really thinking of doing this, but if we did, would you be interested?'" |

Christian Kane News |
Watch with Kristin - Christian Kane Question He mentioned that he and David B. are still friends. "He's my best friend," he says. "We were friends two-and-a-half years before the show started, so I got to work with my best friend every day." As for his new show, Close to Home, C.K. says: "The other stuff that I've done was fun. It was make-believe, but this actually, no pun intended, hits close to home with me. Someone asked a question earlier about are they going to go outside, how much of this is going to happen four blocks away? Listen, where I came from, this s--t happened four blocks away. You know, in Oklahoma, this stuff really went on. So, I relate to this stuff, so it means something, and I feel like I'm a part of something. And the rest of the time I feel like I should be handing out towels and Gatorade with the rest of these actors on the show!" |

James |
James Marsters Album Review He was the peroxide blonde vampire turned good on Buffy. Now he proves to the world that his talents don't just lie in acting. He can write and sing songs rather well too. He was with Ghost of the Robot for about two years. This is his first solo effort. And it doesn't disappoint. |

David Boreanaz News |
David in Next Trek? The same source also says that David Boreanaz, who starred in the TV series Angel, might be up for a part. However, the CanMag report must be treated as rumor for now; some details seem to conflict with Dreamwatch's interview with Jendresen.
Watch 'Bones' on FOX, Enter to Win a Prize Pack Dr. Temperance Brennan is a highly skilled forensic anthropologist who pens novels on the side. Law enforcement calls on her to assist with murder investigations when a victim's remains are so badly decomposed, burned or destroyed that the standard methods of identification are useless. Brennan's special expertise lies in her uncanny ability to read clues left behind in the victim's bones. Bones stars Emily Deschanel and Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum David Boreanaz. The series is based on books by real-life forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs whose Brennan character is inspired by her own life. Check out the premiere airing on FOX Tuesday Sept. 13 at 8/7c. |
