Whedon Wants to Direct any Serenity Sequels It’s rare for a science fiction series to make a successful transition to the big screen. “Star Trek” did it only on and off, the “X-Files” movie disappointed many people and “Babylon 5” hasn't yet made it off the drawing board. It’s good to hear, then, that critics have responded warmly to early screenings of “Serenity,” the feature film spin-off from Fox’s short-lived series “Firefly.”
Serenity Cast Signed for Sequels Most of the cast of the upcoming SF movie Serenity told SCI FI Wire that they have signed on for two more movies if the film version of Joss Whedon's canceled Fox TV series Firefly is a hit. They include Adam Baldwin, Summer Glau, Sean Maher, Jewel Staite, Gina Torres and Morena Baccarin. Star Nathan Fillion wouldn't say whether he's signed for more films, but writer/director Whedon said that the entire cast would likely return if a sequel is warranted. |

Sean Maher News |
It's Serenity Now for Firefly Doc Pink Lady and Jeff. Manimal. Hello, Larry. None of those short-lived TV series ever commanded feature-film follow-ups. But Fox's Firefly — woefully promoted, questionably handled and then unceremoniously yanked off the air after just 11 episodes in 2002 — is big-screen bound. Serenity, which hits theaters Sept. 30, catches up with the transport ship's crew, led by Captain "Mal" Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), as they fend off big-government interest in some precious cargo they are carrying. Tending to the occasionally wounded is the Serenity's Dr. Simon Tam, played by Sean Maher, who was more than happy to speak with TVGuide.com about the revival of little show that could. |

Serenity News |
Taking His Craft Back to Space It's fitting, and sweetly vengeful, that a television show born of a writer's zeal for frontier life is now itself conquering new borders. "Serenity," the new incarnation of the futuristic space western "Firefly," which briefly aired in 2002 on Fox, will premiere as a Universal Pictures feature on Sept. 30 — with the TV cast intact. So how has director-writer Joss Whedon been able to take his failed television series from the small screen to the big?

Joss Whedon News |
Whedon on "The Writer's Greatest Revenge" In the first part of our interview with Joss Whedon (click here to read it), the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly filled us in on his upcoming feature film version based on the latter TV series. Serenity takes the fan favorite but short-lived show and transplants the “Western in space” themed program to the big screen. Interestingly, the show that first put Whedon on the radar of genre fans was Buffy -- which experienced an opposite life cycle from Firefly, starting off as a failed movie only to then be transplanted to the small screen as a TV show. So the question must be asked: Is Whedon trying to change the way things are done in Hollywood? |

Serenity News |
Shiny Shelf Review Serenity 'Serenity' is Joss Whedon's long awaited first film. For all his script work on others, this is his feature directorial debut. And it shows. Whedon is undeniably a great TV director, and a great writer, but the transition to the big screen doesn't quite work. In fact the film falls between two stools: it is neither a great film in its own right, nor something which will please all fans of the original TV series ('Firefly') on which it is based. (Spoilers in the review.) |

Nominate a Site of the Month With many of the Angel and Buffy-verse sites slowing closing and coming into small supply, and only a handful of Firefly sites, i thought it would be great if the visitors of DTD could nominate a site of the month. It can be any site relating to Angel, Buffy, Firefly, Serenity, the cast/characters of any of the 'verses, Joss, Fray, any one of those topics. If you've got a site which you think is worthy of the site of the month award, send the site details in. |

Serenity News |
Buffy buff revels in unique, other-worldly glow of fan fave Firefly There’s this t-shirt cycling around comic-cons and D&D sessions and closets that contain more than one cape. It looks “Star Wars” in font and character, but it’s not. It even quotes “Star Wars,” but trust me, it isn’t “Star Wars.” Its back reads “There is another …” i.e. hope, i.e. life after Lucas, and, like myself, that geeky garment is here to tell you about a cult artist whose mainstream breakthrough is as inevitable as Anakin’s turn to the dark side. The front of the shirt reads “Joss Whedon is My Master Now.” Shiny. |

Serenity News |
New Serenity Poster & Whedon Talks Even though Firefly only ran for 13 episodes, it was enough to begin exploring the ins and outs of the show's nine main characters. A two-hour film, on the other hand, gives very little time for character develop, a fact that has made Serenity a real challenge for creator-director Joss Whedon. |
