Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Musical Breathe. Breathe. OK. BREATHE... Sorry about that but if you were me and that means you’re a totally unrepentant “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” head (Yes, I know it went off the air two years ago but baby it'll always be first season for me!) and you were also a theater critic (also a sign of a delusional personality) and THEN you heard that someone was doing a “Buffy” musical, you’d wig too! |

Serenity News |
Unfortunate Victims of Box Office Failure It’s a damn shame that Serenity hasn’t broken even at the box office yet. While this summer was a relatively disappointing one in theatres, movies with originality still did relatively well. Last weekend, when Serenity opened, it was pitted against the Jodie Foster airline thriller Flightplan and only made $10 million — a paltry sum for an epic sci-fi adventure from an acclaimed writer and director. Joss Whedon has birthed some of the most popular television shows in the past decade — Buffy the Vampire Slayer, its spin-off, Angel, and the cult hit Firefly. Unfortunately, the Fox network canceled Firefly in 2002 after not quite one full season; but after it sold extremely well on DVD, Universal picked up the rights to make a film based.
Jam Creates Online Buzz for Whedon's Serenity Joss Whedon's well-reviewed sci-fi action film 'Serenity' is being backed by an online campaign featuring an exclusive preview of the first nine minutes of the film, written and directed by the creator of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and 'Angel'. The campaign, created by Jam, consists of online advertising in the UK and internationally with character-based designs, video media, overlays and banners featuring a Japanese-inspired animation.
Serenity Review Yo, up-front I must cop to being a recent convert to Firefly, the short-lived Fox TV series that earned a quick cancellation and fabulous martyrdom by being too good. So you should expect that I might not be the most objective reviewer. (Spoilers)
Serenity Story Analysis Serenity is a rollicking Sci-Fi/Fantasy film that manages to walk the fine line between serious science fiction and silly space opera. I found it surprisingly enjoyable. Based on the short-lived Firefly television series, Serenity successfully weaves a Dramatica grand argument story within several substories growing from its ensemble crew of unlikely heroes. For the sake of this analysis, I focus on the main story revolving around Serenity’s mysterious passenger, River. (Spoilers)
Again with the Inscrutability If I had a dollar for every science fiction perpetrator who used Asian languages as a signpost of the future, BUT NOT ASIAN PEOPLE ... well, I'd have a bunch of dollars. Take Joss Whedon ... please. His Serenity, a feature film both summarizing and sequelizing his short-lived television drama Firefly, was eagerly awaited by fans of all of Whedon's tv dramas, which--FYI--include Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff, Angel. Opening week and subsequent viewing has been carefully strategized among Whedonites to optimize the possibility of Firefly returning to the large screen or even the small screen with new episodes and a longer shelf-life. |

Kitchen Confidential for the Chop? Most shows are still on the fence pending several weeks worth of numbers, although Don Johnson legal drama "Just Legal", Chris O'Donnell legal drama "Head Cases", Bradley Cooper sitcom "Kitchen Confidential", Denise Richards led "Sex, Love & Secrets", and medical drama "Inconceivable" have already been cancelled. |

Anthony S. Head News |
It's a Rotters Life Outside the Buffyzone Anthony Stewart Head remembers his 21st birthday vividly. Which is surprising, considering he was in a drunken coma. Attempting to mark the advent of adulthood by downing 21 glasses of Scotch and Coke, he reached 18 before passing out. “My girlfriend at the time was not remotely amused,” recalls the impeccably suave star of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Little Britain. “Don’t try it at home, kids.” |

Serenity News |
Serenity Review In 2002, Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer; Angel) produced Firefly, a sci-fi / Western / drama telling the story of the crew of run-down spaceship Serenity. However, despite pleased noises from critics and a growing dedicated following, Fox thought it best to axe the show after just eleven of fourteen produced episodes had aired. (Spoilers)
Movie Review: Serenity For those of you keeping score, Universal’s Serenity is Whedon’s return to the rough-and-tumble space western setting he created for TV’s Firefly, cancelled by Fox in 2002 after half a season. Whedon’s approach to science fiction, set 500 years in our future, is notorious for adding his trademark wit to a painstakingly realistic and sometimes-gritty setting. (Spoilers)
Sci-Fi Fans Rejoice: Serenity Delivers Hey, sis, have you seen 'Firefly?'" "What's 'Firefly'?" I ask. My brother exuded a focused enthusiasm that told me he had just struck entertainment gold. A teacher and psychotherapist by profession, with an extensive background in live theater production and performance, my sibling also possesses a discriminating nose for art and excellence in television and film.
Out of Gas It’s been interesting, this past week, to watch the Browncoats go through all the stages of grieving as laid out by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross. First there was denial, where they claimed that, hey, ten million dollars and coming in second to a shitty movie that had already been released the week before was OK. Next came anger. I found myself at the receiving end of this stage of grief after I had what they (and Joss Whedon) took to be the incredible gall to call it as I saw it – ie, that Serenity’s opening weekend tagged the film as one that would not make back its money at the box office. (And this weekend's performance - staggering into the top ten at 9, indicates that I was right. Look for Serenity to make 25 million domestically.) |

David Boreanaz News |
Kung Fu Monkey on Bones Wow, Boreanz turns out to be the genuine TV star of the Whedon bunch. Hot damn. Pity he's lumbering through those speeches. Nice military background, though. But why hint at it so adroitly in Act One, and then decide to puke it all up before the end of the show? |

Marc Blucas News |
Written Off: Marc on his time on Buffy In some cases it may have always been the plan to limit the amount of time a character spends on a series: The actor may even be ready to move on. Marc Blucas was brought on to Buffy the Vampire Slayer in Season Four as Riley Finn, a new love interest for the title character; Buffy's previous boyfriend, Angel (David Boreanaz), had exited the show for his own spinoff. Blucas departed the series in the middle of Season Five and believes that being part of the show for a limited time was always part of the master plan for the character. |

Serenity News |
Serenity Charts a Unique Course It's fitting, and sweetly vengeful, that a television show born of a writer's zeal for frontier life is now itself conquering new borders. "Serenity," the new incarnation of the futuristic space western "Firefly," which briefly aired in 2002 on Fox, will premiere as a Universal Pictures feature on Sept. 30 -- with the TV cast intact. So how has director-writer Joss Whedon been able to take his failed television series from the small screen to the big?
The Toy Guru: Serenity Capt. Malcolm Reynolds Greetings net denizens, the Toy Guru is back again with a take on a figure from the fine folks at Diamond Select Toys. DST knew they latched onto a good thing when the took over the action figure license to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel from Moore Action Collectibles a few years back. The popular shows had a rabid following, as does show mastermind and creative everyman Joss Whedon. Whedon's follow up show, Firefly, also found a passionate niche audience, but it wasn't enough to save the tale of Captain Malcolm Reynolds and his band of space pirates from the Fox chopping block.
Details on LA Premiere of Serenity The LA premiere of Serenity will take place on the 22nd of September. Those who will be in attendance are: Joss Whedon; cast members Morena Baccarin, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nathan Fillion, Ron Glass, Summer Glau, David Krumholtz, Sean Maher, Jewel Staite, Gina Torres and Alan Tudyk; producer Barry Mendel and executive producers Christopher Buchanan, David Lester and Alisa Tager. Also appearing will be Amy Acker, James Carpinello, Rafael Feldman, Yan Feldman, Laurence Fishburne, Alyson Hannigan, Christina Hendricks, Nectar Rose and many others.
