Once More, With Feeling It's vaguely embarrassing to admit that there was a general buzz of excitement at SFist HQ when SFist Jon found out that counterPULSE Theater was staging a live-action version of the Buffy The Vampire Slayer musical episode, "Once More With Feeling." Set for performances this weekend and next, tickets sold out pretty much immediately and geeks of all stripes (musical theater geeks, comic book geeks, Star Trek geeks, Joss Whedon geeks, and your everyday run of the mill geeks) began lovingly sheathing their precious original tickets in durable plastic covers to preserve forever. |

Alyson Hannigan News |
Alyson Hannigan's Favourite Buffy episodes Yes, yes, we know Alyson Hannigan has a prominent role on a hit sitcom (she's Lily, the lusty kindergarten teacher on CBS' How I Met Your Mother), and it's been a long time since she pulled up stakes on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Still, if you were going to interview the erstwhile Willow, as Whitney Pastorek did for next week's Entertainment Weekly, you too would be unable to restrain yourself from asking Hannigan what her favorite Buffy episodes were. |

Serenity News |
Serenity is King of the Box Office in the UK Well Serenity is bombing faster then you can say "bombs away" over here on this side of the pond. But over in the UK its the #1 film. That makes me smile since the movie really does kick some hardcore butt. I have no idea why it's not doing as well over here because it is way better than the newly hacked together Star Wars movies. Anyrate, here are the top 5 flicks in the UK according to the BBC.
Serenity - Best SF Film in Years Not only is Serenity the best science fiction film since The Matrix, it is also one of the best films of the year, in any genre. A low-tech space western with no aliens or laser guns, Serenity is a follow-up to the prematurely cancelled TV series Firefly, but remains easily accessible to the casual viewer. Created by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), the world of Serenity is political realist's version of Star Wars in which the rebels lost and the governing authority isn't a cackling evil empire but an ostensibly benevolent democracy, the Alliance. (Spoilers)
You Can't Take the Sky From Me It's a bit of a puzzle to me why audiences haven't found "Serenity." While made for a miniscule budget that virtually ensures its profitablility, the film's thus-far lackluster box office -- opening in second place two weeks ago, then plummeting to eighth last weekend -- makes a sequel seem unlikely at this point, barring a stellar performance on DVD.
USA Network Gets Rights to Broadcast Serenity USA also has the first airings of "Skeleton" and "Serenity." The films become available in 2008. The deal allows NBC Universal to sell second windows for the films to another broadcast or cable outlet. |

James Marsters News |
From Spike to Smallville James Marsters is ready to wreak havoc again. He previously joined the cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in its second season as Spike, a deadly but wisecracking vampire. It was meant to be a brief role, but Spike proved so popular that he kept coming back, and eventually became a regular, sticking with the show until it ended. Then Marsters moved to the spinoff Angel for its fifth and final season. |

Serenity News |
Serenity Takes UK Box Office Well, what can you say? Hooray that Serenity climbed to the top, but it's more of a molehill than a mountain, isn't it? In fact, this is the first weekend that the number one film has grossed less than £1 million since Boogeyman mysteriously reigned for a week back in March. |

Latest Buffy DVD Will Leave Spike Fans Feeling Cheated “Spike: Love is Hell,” the latest character-themed DVD collection of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” episodes from Fox Home Entertainment, offers fans of the show and those uninitiated into the “Buffyverse” four solid hours of cutting social commentary, cheeky humor, pointed drama and well-executed action. Spike Movie News |
Spike Movie Anyone? Ok, so it doesn't actually qualify as the apocalypse, but I checked out the please-please-let-it-be-true gossip on whether a Spike movie was actually in the offing, and highly placed sources in the TV industry say "Not even!" Just wanted to let all the chosen out there know, so none of us got our hopes up and our spirits all crushed or anything. Sigh. |

Serenity News |
Meg's Boyfriend of the Week You know that old Marvin Gaye song "Let's get it on"? Why is it that every time I go to work on this write-up, that song pops into my head? In pondering this out loud, I realize I don't actually have an answer for that. I mean, other than the obvious one, which is that it's because all five of this week's Boyfriends, stars of the new movie "Serenity," are total babeamatrons. No, this was really a rhetorical question. I just thought I'd start this write-up off with a complete non sequitur, so you'd know it was really me.
Standout Cast Makes Serenity a Hit Take a seat, George Lucas. Joss Whedon has trumped you with his freewheeling sci-fi western "Serenity." Whedon, best known for creating "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," makes his feature directing debut with this big-screen adaptation of the cult TV series "Firefly." "Serenity" follows the exploits of a ragtag group of space adventurers, including the tough, clever Captain Mal Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), perky mechanic Kaylee (Jewel Staite) and second-in-command Zoe (Gina Torres). Mal and his crew find themselves in big trouble for harboring River and Simon Tam (Summer Glau and Sean Maher, respectively), a pair of government fugitives. River's brain is tinkered with, giving her extraordinary fighting skills as well as a batch of secrets that the galactic governing body, the Alliance, desperately want kept quiet. |

James Marsters News |
See James as Brainiac The WB has released two more images of the "Aqua" episode of Smallville scheduled to air on Oct. 20. The images features Tom Welling as Clark Kent and James Marsters as Professor Fine/Brainiac. The network has also released a description of the "Thirst" episode, set to air on Oct. 27: "Lana (Kristin Kreuk) decides to enroll at Metropolis University at the last minute and is forced to join a sorority to find housing at such a late date. However, her new sorority sisters offer her more than a place to crash after they turn her into a vampire and instruct her to kill Clark (Tom Welling). Meanwhile, Chloe (Allison Mack) applies for an internship at the Daily Planet, but the newspaper's formidable editor (guest star Carrie Fisher) may be more then she can handle." Steven S. DeKnight wrote the episode, which was directed by Jeannot Szwarc. |

You know the drill.’’ To quote from “Revelations,’’ that’s the Buffy episode not the book from the Bible, I’ve been busy lately people. The fall is like the Ascension if you’re a theater critic. Too many demons to slay/plays to review, too little time. That’s me apologizing for not getting back to all y’all Scoobies. |

We're doing it. Definitely doing it. I'm revved. |

Serenity News |
Serenity - Why Stop the Signal When It's This Good? Faithful readers of The Advocate-Messenger may remember a column I wrote two months ago about my experience at an advance screening of "Serenity," one of many set up by Universal Pictures to generate positive word of mouth on the project. I'll admit it: In the column I gushed a bit, begging movie-goers to take a chance on the film and displaying my affection for the material. (Spoilers)
Nothing Serene About Sci-Fi Flick Serenity Much has been made of the back story of Serenity. It has been discussed in great length how Joss Whedon's creation, originally a short-lived television program called Firefly, gained such an enormous cult fan base that Whedon was able to bankroll into a major motion picture. (Spoilers)
Sci Fi Beats Pride in Film Chart Serenity, created by Buffy the Vampire Slayer mastermind Joss Whedon, took almost £960,000 in its first weekend. Pride and Prejudice, starring Keira Knightley, dropped to second place with weekend earnings of £907,000, taking its UK total to £11.4m.
Heroine Chics Enter the Space Age Her big gun blasting away at kill-crazed mutants, Serenity's Zoe does battle in the grand tradition of Alien's Lt. Ripley. She's tough — except with her husband: Then she goes all giggly. "I'm a lover and a fighter," says Gina Torres, who played Zoe in Firefly, the 2002 TV series, and reprised the role in Serenity. "That's what's so engaging. She is the most balanced person on that ship. She has a loving marriage (to Wash, the pilot of spaceship Serenity) and a job she embraces every morning. She likes being a soldier. She's good at it." |

Joss Whedon |
Joss Talks Charisma At TVGuide.com Question: Did Joss Whedon mention Charisma Carpenter being on Veronica Mars while you were interviewing him? Is there any chance the rift between them has healed? — Lara Du Pres Ausiello: Yes, he discussed Charisma and yes, I think we can assume from his comments that the rumored hatchet has been buried. This is what he said when I asked him why he thinks Charisma keeps getting cast as bitchy sexpots: "She looks the part, let's face it. She's a stunner, she's voluptuous, she's got that sort of air about her. But she's not that person at all… I mean, Cordelia was that person until we said, 'Let's see the other side.' She can just sort of take that and hit it out of the park, and then if you need to get in deeper, there's more there. Whether or not they're going to show that [on Veronica Mars] I don't know, although that is sort of Veronica Mars' benchmark. It's their staple that the person you think you know perfectly is more textured." |
