Firefly/Serenity News |
Browncoats 101.2 - The Best Gorram Fanbase in the 'Verse And now, it's time for some thrilling conclusions... So where were we? Ah, yes. Firefly was canceled and the fanbase, along with Joss Whedon and the rest of the cast and crew, were sad. And FOX did the second-smartest thing they'd ever do and release the Firefly DVDs. Why was this so smart? It allowed the fanbase to grow. Before, the network had to rely on ratings and that one time they'd air a show to hook viewers. With DVD, that wasn't a problem. The consumer buys the entire series and can pass it along to more people, some of whom may go buy the DVDs themselves. Firefly went on to consistently become one of the highest-ranked DVDs on Amazon.com's list of television show releases on DVD. |

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Chosen Collection Why is it that so many stars these days are reluctant to acknowledge the films or TV series that made them commercially viable in the first place? That's the question that immediately springs to mind when watching the bonus disc featurettes accompanying Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Chosen Collection, which collects all 144 episodes of the TV series in a massive box set. |

Joss Whedon News |
Wonder Woman News In an interview with Suicide Girls, director Joss Whedon talks about updating Princess Diana's look. "We're definitely have a nicer look than that," Whedon said. "It will be the Wonder Woman silhouette, but the star spangled adult diapers are gone. Wonder Woman is going to have major special effects because she's Wonder Woman. Joel and I are very much on the same page about how big this movie is and what kind of movie it is. I'm not worried about any conflict there. But with Joel, he wakes up and there's conflict but it's the good kind. The kind that makes good movies."
Joss Whedon Says Star Trek if Father of Serenity Q : When FIREFLY was getting ready to debut, you had talked about this being the anti-STAR TREK. I just find it amusing that in a sense STAR TREK has faded away, yet the grittier, more realistic BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and FIREFLY are now living on. Whedon : There's always the young punk rebelling against his father.I'm rebelling against Han Solo, but if you are going to tell me that Han Solo isn´t the father of Malcolm Reynolds, then I am going to laugh and laugh and laugh. A lot of people liked the first STAR TREK when they were really finding their way, and James Kirk was about taking the time to take his shirt off and getting it done. Kirk was also, I would say, Malcolm's weird uncle. And both of those franchises became more and more sterile, and less kind off down and dirt. I was rebelling against that kind of TV and science-fiction. At the same time, I owe both of those franchises a huge debt. They are both in my personal, how can they not be ?It's that classic thing : I'm rebelling against my father and doing everything he doesn't do, but I think I look like him. |

David Boreanaz News |
David Boreanaz Hopes to Excercise Funny Bones on Fox Crime Drama David Boreanaz is experiencing a strange sensation on Fox’s new series ”Bones”: the sun on his face. Playing brooding 247-year-old vampire Angelus for seven years, first on ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer” then its spinoff ”Angel,” meant the 35-year-old actor did most of his work in the dark and never got to sport a tan.
Sex Fleshes out Bones David Boreanaz can do without the gory details. Some actors regale journalists with tales of their off-screen exploits while researching their crime-solving characters -- storming doors alongside SWAT teams, chilling in morgues, etc. -- but Boreanaz says he has avoided digging around dead bodies, although he does star in a show that is tellingly entitled Bones. |

BtVS News |
Buffy makes Women Bigger Sci Fi Fans than Men TV shows like BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER have given rise to a new breed of sci-fi fans - women. British digital television channel Sci Fi UK claims that girls now outnumber male fans, due largely to the popularity of strong female characters like SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR and ANGELINA JOLIE in TOMBRAIDER, who star in more emotional storylines than the surreal plots of old. |

Spike Movie News |
Matt Roush Wants Spike Movie And finally, since you brought up Buffy, let's revisit this tried-and-true topic, from Chris: "You've always been straight-up on things, so honestly, do you think there'll be any Buffyverse TV movies, or is it time to let the Buffyverse go on-screen for now? There has been so much conflicting talk in the press, from Joss, Tim Minear and the WB, about various issues such as money. I've heard it will happen and is slowly being put together now and I've heard reports that it won't and that nothing is in development. The various actors who would do a TV movie are on new projects, and James Marsters has a time limit that at last check is down to two or three years. Does Serenity's failure at the box office impact things? What's your honest opinion on a Buffyverse TV movie actually happening?" I'm not really in the loop on this one, and don't have time to keep up with what may or may not be happening, but I would still love to see a Spike movie; there is so much untapped potential in that character. But will it happen? Who knows. If it does, I'll welcome it the way I did the Farscape miniseries. If not, I still have seven seasons of Buffy and five of Angel to treasure. That's plenty right there. (And I doubt the fate of Serenity has anything to do with it.) |

David Boreanaz News |
Boreanaz Makes No Bones About Being Happy His appearances as a soulful vampire on Joss Whedon's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and his own spin-off, "Angel," made David Boreanaz a star. But Whedon -- a writer, director and producer -- believed that the actors on his shows should say their lines only as written. |

Marti Noxon News |
Point Pleasant: The Complete Series Coming hot off the success of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer, television producer Marti Noxon was quick to jump back into TV-land as soon as Buffy left the airwaves. While her ability to keep up the high standards that Buffy set without the presence of Joss Whedon had been put into question, I found her work on the show's later seasons to be quite good. |

General News |
Love at First Bite If vampires rose up as frequently as stories about them, we'd have to wear garlic necklaces every night. Tales about these suckers have been around for hundreds of years, of course, but in 1897 Bram Stoker's Dracula sunk its teeth deep into the collective imagination and spawned a thousand descendants. At this late date can anyone draw more blood from the story? "Buffy" gave up the ghost in 2003. The WB drove a stake through the heart of her spinoff, "Angel," the next year. "Dracula: The Musical" closed on Broadway in January. Anne Rice now writes about Jesus, for Christ's sake. |
