Mars As Good as Buffy Without All the Demons There's no doubt that one obsessively dissected Wednesday night drama knows exactly where it's going. Though "Lost" has been enjoyable, if occasionally vexing and slow-moving this season, it's "Veronica Mars" (8 p.m., WPWR-Ch. 50) that has its fans and critics declaring -- with good reason -- that the show's second season is better than its first. The ongoing mystery on "Mars" is even more enthralling, star Kristin Bell continues to effortlessly impress and even the guest stars are a treat. What's not to love? |

Eliza Dushku News |
5 Minutes With Eliza Dushku Go big or go home!' is the motto that steers babe-tastic actress Eliza Dushku, whether she's dealing with demons ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel"), dead folks ("Tru Calling") or De Niro ("This Boy's Life" and "City by the Sea"). The philosophy is now guiding her in her latest venture — Off-Broadway. Dushku, who turns 25 next month, makes her New York stage debut tomorrow at the Century Center for the Performing Arts (111 E. 15th St.) in Bert V. Royal's "Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead." The play is an "unauthorized parody" of the "Peanuts" gang — Charlie Brown, Lucy (who inspires Dushku's character), Linus, et al. It fast-forwards the tots into their troubled teen personas — and manages to use the F-word 57 times. Salty "Peanuts," indeed. |

Serenity News |
Cast of Serenity To Gather at Convention for Fans and For Charity Three years ago, the television show Firefly debuted on the Fox Network. Created by Joss Whedon, who was also behind the hit series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, the show was a bit of a departure from the status quo for Whedon. There were no vampires, no demons...except for mankind itself. Set in the future, Firefly dealt with the crew of the ship Serenity and its passengers. Part sci-fi, part western, the series was totally unique on the television schedule. And even though the show had great writing and a talented cast, Fox decided to cancel the show after only 13 episodes.
Likely Details of Benelux Serenity DVD We have noticed from recent forum discussions that dvdbits.com have listed the bonus features that will be available on the Australian Serenity DVD so we thought it was high time we confirmed the likely disc configuration in terms of content. Anthony Stewart Head News |
Head Returning for Buffy Movie? Remember that planned “Buffy” spin-off that was set to revolve around Anthony Stewart Head’s character of Watcher Rupert Giles? It was all-set for a BBC unleashing at one stage? How things change. But possibly, in a good way. Head’s Giles character – for the dilettante, he was the British chap who guided Buffy the Vampire Slayer on her many adventures – will star in a “Ripper” series for DVD, says the actor. “It’s gone from, being a series to a two-hour movie that might be part of a series of DVDs that we were talking about doing for the different characters from the shows. It’s got a lovely story, and I hope he does something wonderful with him”, Head told Buffy Magazine, reports TV Squad and Whedonesque. There’s also DVD spin-off’s in the works with the characters of Spike (James Marsters) and Illyria (Amy Acker). The Giles film, set in England, has been on and off for a number of years now. |

General News |
Whatever Happened to Ripper I was watching some old episodes of Buffy recently, and I realized once again how much I miss having something in the "Buffy Universe" on television. Joss Whedon mentioned recently that we haven't seen the end of his Buffyverse creations, likely refering to the Spike TV movie we've heard about. While I was watching those old episodes, it suddenly hit me: what the heck happened to the Ripper series, once planned to air on BBC? It seems the idea of the series just simply vanished. |

Serenity News |
The Future is Now Sorry -- this is much simpler than that title makes it sound. While science fiction and fantasy novels seem to be in a never-ending Golden Age (my favorite recent reads come from Neal Stephenson, Susanna Clarke, Neil Gaiman and Octavia Butler), science fiction and fantasy film and TV have been, at best, hit or miss. But just when you thought the post-Buffy/Angel horizon looked empty, two ships of different sizes but with similar complexity of characters and ideas have come in. |
