Spike Movie News |
Spike Movie Has This Fan Excited Television without Joss Whedon is like popcorn without butter. There's no point. For avid fans who followed “Buffy the Vampire Slayer's” seven-year-run, “Angel’s” five-year trek and “Firefly’s” less-than-a-season damnation by the television Powers That Be, there’s just a lot of dead air out there. |

Tim Minear News |
Tim Minear's Own Take on Things My own take on a couple of things. Everyone has a little different perspective, I guess. And I know and love Fury and would work with him again in a heartbeat. Also, who can tell from a printed interview what the subtleties are of what someone might be saying? Anyway, from the time I started on Angel, which was right at the beginning, to the time I left, which was the end of season four -- I’d returned to Angel after Firefly went down -- Joss had been getting the rap on the 'net that he wasn't as involved with Angel as with Buffy. Or then not as involved with Buffy *or* Angel as with Firefly. |

Serenity News |
Serenity DVD News - UK to Get Unseen Footage One of the best sci-fi films of the year, Serenity, is coming to DVD on February 27 – and the UK is to get some bonus material not included on the US release because we're Joss' favourites. As well as his introduction (which screening audiences will already have seen) and his commentary, there are also nine deleted scenes (finally, Inara gets some screen time) and outtakes. Featurettes cover the history of the 500 years between now and Serenity, the visual effects and the journey of the crew from cancelled TV show to feature film. But the real news is that we in the UK are going to get A Filmmaker's Journey, following Joss from script to screen, in a 20-minute documentary that won't appear on the US disc. Check back nearer the time for the Empire review of the DVD release. |

Director Takashi Shimizu and scribe Stephen Susco are also are on board. |

Serenity News |
Why Serenity DVD Was Released So Quickly Serenity did come to DVD especially quickly for a major studio release: Roughly seven weeks separate the Sept. 30, 2005, theatrical opening and the Dec. 20 DVD release date. But to put that turnaround in context, the window between theatrical and DVD/video has been shrinking steadily for several years. While I'm not going to go into all the ins and outs of how various parties make money from movies, certain factors have a direct bearing on why studio producers and distributors are putting movies out on DVD (and, to a lesser degree, video) faster than ever before. |

Joss Whedon News |
Whedon Won't Rush Wonder Woman Search Although names including Sandra Bullock and Jennifer Lopez have been bandied about in recent years to star in the long-anticipated big-screen "Wonder Woman," writer-producer Joss Whedon doubts he'll use a big name for the part. The man who created the TV world of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," among other accomplishments, tells us he's wrapping up a draft of his "Wonder" script and expects to have it in early next year. But there will be no rushing of the project into production, no insistence on a high-profile actress. |

Sarah M. Gellar News |
Gellar Returns for The Grudge 2 The Grudge and The Grudge 2 screenwriter Stephen Susco tells Dread Central that Sarah Michelle Gellar will reprise her role of Karen Davis in the sequel. Talking from Japan, Susco revealed that "SMG is back. Without giving anything away, we've all been pretty focused on making a sequel that has a strong raison d'etre - a second chapter to an evolving story, instead of a sequel that's made just because the first one performed well." |

Joss Whedon News |
Interview: Joss Whedon Hey folks! Your pal and mine Dude here again, with yet another fabulous interview with someone far more interesting than I am. Today's victim? I mean subject? Joss Whedon. THE Joss Whedon. You know him, you love him, you bow down before everything he does and everything he will do. Well, that's just me.
Joss Whedon Talks Serenity 2 If I were a betting man, I’d say the sequel to “Serenity” will most likely be direct-to-DVD. But, if I were a man of faith, I’d also be collapsing on my knees, bringing the hands together and praying to the high heavens that we get (at least) one more cinema excursion of the crew. Whatever-will-be-will-be I guess – and as Whedon says, nothing will be decided until the monkeys tally up the returns from the forthcoming “Serenity” DVD – but regardless, Whedon has some ideas for the sequel. |

Serenity News |
Serenity II - A Sci-Fi Original? Well this is interesting. I was talking with a publicist from a major studio a few days back, and he tells me he’s got a friend who’s connected with the Serenity production. He makes this claim: that, in light of Serenity’s disappointing box office performance, there are still plans to go ahead with another film, but it will be done at a much lower budget, and instead of getting a theatrical release, it will be aired on the Sci-Fi channel as a Sci-Fi original. |

Joss Whedon News |
Comic Movie Round-Up: Wonder Woman You can watch a video interview of Joss Whedon talking about Wonder Woman here. The gist of what he has to say is that his movie is not a remake or a reintroduction, but more of “a distillation.” He’s taken what he considers to be all the best and most important parts of the character, and discarded some of the less important bits. Sounds like a good plan to me, overall. |

Bang Up Buffy Boxset Sends Stake Through Heart of Undying Fan Fanaticism, I think, is a lot like a better version of herpes. A sometimes brief, sometimes extended but always torrid affair with someone (Stanley Kubrick, Fiona Apple) or something (Harry Potter) you love leaves you dazed and confused and infected for life long after the said someone or something is gone. Kubrick’s death leaves you wondering how much better “A.I.” would have been had he directed it; Apple takes a slow six years constructing her extraordinary “Machine;” J.K. Rowling is writing the seventh and final “Harry Potter” installment as we speak. |

BtVS News |
Double Dip Digest: Buffy I was an extreme latecomer to the "Buffyverse" - the world depicted in Joss Whedon's wonderful shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff, Angel - only discovering it after playing the eponymous Xbox game and being taken by the offbeat humor of the dialogue. Having heard the buzz on this show for years, I picked up the first season box set to see what it was all about. |
