Jewel
Staite
Born 2nd June 1982 in White Rock BC, Canada. Until the age of four, Jewel lived on Maui and made her first public appearance at age two in the Maui County Most Beautiful Baby Contest. An entertainer from birth, she spent every Friday night dressed in a grass skirt, doing hula at the Mai Tai parties at the Mauian Hotel on Napili Bay. Jewel was born a mike hog - she’d grab the mike and dance and sing with the Sandy Bell Trio at the Napili Kai Beach Club.
At four, Jewel moved to Vancouver. After a photo session for mom at the Sears Portrait Studio, Jewel was approached for modeling and asked to do a video for Sears. Even though they offered her anything in the toy department she’d like, she refused because “they talk down to me”.
Her mom, being in the advertising industry, arranged a photo shoot and necessary promotional items and Jewel went pro. Vancouver Youth Theatre became her second home where she trained several days a week for several years. Modeling jobs lead to commercials and eventually large television roles.
A complete natural, her work appears effortless and she gets straight to the heart of the character.
When she was fourteen, Jewel had the distinction of being the first to go mouth-to-mouth with David Duchovny on The X Files.
Jewel has eight TV series under her belt, four of them leads and is about to start her ninth.
In September 2002 she can be seen in FOX’s new SciFi series FIREFLY, created, written and directed by Joss Wheadon of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame.
For a good time, Jewel sings jazz and swing. It doesn’t take much coaxing to get her up to the mike at her favorite hangout, The Marquee Grill where she sang every Sunday night until real work interfered. She sings only for fun and good causes and has opened benefits for the Dyslexia Foundation at the Vogue and often offers her talents to benefit her main charity, The Children with AIDS Project of which she was made Teen Spokesperson two years ago.
Her passion is big band, her dream is to have her own rat pack and her style is pure Jewel – exciting, funny, dynamic and passionate about everything she does. |
Kaywinnit Lee 'Kaylee' Frye
Kaylee's seen as the baby of the crew, the youngest out of them
that's for sure, but that it no way demeans her value to the crew. She's
the ship's mechanic. She's got a natural gift with engines, so her
father tells her, who trained her. She first came aboard Serenity as the
previous mechanic's, Bester, humping buddy. But in all innocence Kaylee
just wanted to see the engine. Which she did get to see. She also fixed
it, something Bester couldn't do. That impressed Mal enough to want to
dump Bester and take on Kaylee, besides the fact that she had never had
any experience on a ship before let alone go off planet. Hardly ever
without a smile Kaylee's the most cheerful of the crew, always thinking
in "glass half full" terms. When Serenity first picked up a
set of passengers a certain doctor caught her eye. Dr. Simon Tam. She
and Simon had many attempts in which to ignite something more than
friendship but they never really got the chance. There is hope for the
future though.
