Break Down

In this episode, things are good between the two Slayers. So good in fact, that Faith shows her loyalty to Buffy. Again, wanting to be liked by her peer, Faith suggests to Buffy (who's just been dumped by Scott) that the two of them could go to the dance together. She really shows her friendship colors in this episode. Faith wants to cheer Buffy up, and the only way in her mind, is to . . . find a coupla studs, use them and discard them. Buffy seems to like the plan and Faith is pleased. It's beautifully played by Sarah Michelle Gellar and Eliza. Faith's suggestion is almost tentative. It's gentle and presented in such a way, that if Buffy rejected the offer, Faith could (but in her heart wouldn't) write it off as "no big". To Faith's relief though, Buffy, despite being a little wary at first, likes the plan. The next scene with Faith, is really quick. A surgical strike from Faith to embarrass Scott. This is done from two angles. Faith wants to humiliate Scott because he's hurt her friend. It also shows a loyalty to Buffy that surprised many viewers. Sadly, the loyalty is something that Buffy doesn't return.
