City By The Sea

The Box The Box Says:

Plot Synopsis When a respected New York homicide detective (Robert De Niro) discovers the prime suspect in a murder case is his estranged son (James Franco), he is forced to return home to the decaying boardwalks of Long Beach, Long Island to confront the darkness of his past. During the course of the investigation, he realizes that his failures as a father - and his unresolved anguish about the painful estrangement - have deeply influenced his son’s life, and he must put his own life on the line in order to do right by both his family and his profession.

We Say We think:

Oh, woe is us. I'm not being bias when I say Eliza's the best thing about this movie. She herself cites it as one of her best performances and she's not lying. Frances McDormand was practically wasted, De Niro was all but sleepwalking his way though the film and poor James Franco, who was wicked!, was almost lost in the process. The movie tends to be a little dull, so don't expect a pacy, fast action flick - you'll be disappointed.
