The record for horse speed is something like 43mph held by a quarterhorse, who can do that only over a quarter mile. Thoroughbreds can keep it up for a mile or two, but at a slower pace - say 30 to 35 mph. Arabs can keep it up forever, but again at an even slower pace. So how come a whole herd of not particularly distinguished beasts can run with the Winnebago, even on a gravel/dirt road? That’s like those old westerns where the bandits gallop alongside a speeding train. Can’t be done. Even in the olden days trains were faster than that. |
