As the Scoobies and potentials start their battle with the Turok-Han in Showtime, we’re unaware of Buffy, Xander and Willow’s plan. We later see a flashback to their telepathic conversation discussing a way to improve moral. A similar use of flashback was used in Chosen, when Buffy’s final speech to the potentials was played during the big fight. |

All Buffy thinks is, Willow can you hear me? And she says yes, so I wonder, is Willow always reading peoples minds or did Buffy concentrate real hard to project her thoughts to Willow.

That is a good question. Willow is the one with the telepathic powers, so how did Buffy initiate the conversation?

:s hmm good points, also this flashback technique is used in ‘the gift’ too i think, when buffy is telling dawn why she has to jump. i think its an exptremely powerfull way of portraying the scenes

My theory is that since Willow is telepathic she can sense if someone’s trying to speak to her, hence picking up on Buffy’s thought. I wouldn’t think she was the type to read people’s minds all the time for fun.
I liked this technique though, in both Showtime and Chosen. It’s a good way of surprising the audience and then keeping them hooked thereafter.
