Giving up on men

Willow

Joyce apparently knows nothing about Willow and Tara’s relationship in Buffy vs Dracula as she says, “Oh, when you girls are older you’ll understand. It’s hard to date. Sometimes you just…feel like giving up on men altogether.” She apparently finds out before the next episode as Dawn mentions in her diary in Real Me that, “I told Mom one time I wished they’d [Willow and Tara] teach me some of the things they do together. And then she got really quiet and made me go upstairs.”

I would imagine that Joyce’s apprehensions about letting Dawn learn things from Tara and Willow had more to do with the witchcraft and less to do with the lesbianism.

    2. Blondie-Bear says:

Personally, I always interpreted this comment in the lesbian way (hope you get waht I mean there)

    3. mairceridwen says:

I think it has more to with the lesbianism. That’s why it’s funny, Dawn means one thing and joyce thinks another. I don’t think that means Joyce is homophobic, just a little uneasy (as even the most open-minded mothers can be when it comes to their own kids and possible gayness).

    4. Saintsaucey says:

The reason, (I feel), she knows about their relationship in the next episode and not in this one, is that in this episode she doesn’t have a younger daughter until there very end and there is no reason Buffy would feel she would half to reveal the facts of their relationship.

I’m not saying that because willow and tara are lesbians they can’t keep their hands off. I’m just saying that Buffy is trying to be resposible.

that being said why does Joyce find it okay to have Xander as Dawn’s babysitter. She’s a thirteen/fourteen year old girl, who obviously has a crush on the guy.

I do think it has evrything to do with the fact that they are lesbians. that’s just my two cents on the subject

I can’t believe I never commented on this before.

So what if she has a crush on Xander? So she should shelter her daughter away from cute boys? Obviously, she trusts Xander to be a responsible babysitter.

Do you think she should assume Dawn would pull a Lolita on his as. YOU have a smutty mind.

And your assessment about Joyce’s knowledge of Tara/Willow being somehow related to Buffy being responsible makes no sense whatsoever.

This is what I think happened, offscreen:

Tara and Willow return from doing the spell and told Buffy about the funny thing that Joyce said to them about giving up on men. Buffy realizes that her mum doesn’t know and lets her in on it. It has nothing to do with her having a daughter.

pull a Lolita on his “ass”

Yes, I’ve got the insomnia suddenly tonight and the grammah’s shot.

Oh please…everyone knows that Xander and Dawn were doing it like rabbits. “Maybe I should get a cape?” Read between the lines, mair….
