Not happy for me

In Potential, Dawn reminds the Scoobies that she saw her mother in Conversations with Dead People, and reveals that she’s privately still concerned about what her mother said to her:

Dawn: “Guys, when Mom appeared to me she said…”
Willow: “Dawnie…”
Dawn: “No, please. She said something about Buffy and I’m thinking… I’m just not so sure Buffy will be happy for me.”

Just curious: Does anybody know why the exchange between Dawn and the First (one assumes, at least) took place in “CWDP” (which led to its mention in “Potential”)? Does anybody know where all this was going, assuming that it was intended to go somewhere? It seemed important in “CWDP”, and it was mentioned in this episode, but it went nowhere.

I didnt understand that quite well either…
But I guess ‘Joyce’ tried to say that Buffy will chose for the other potentials instead of her this season…

and also that conversation with Giles comes screaming in my mind right now… when Giles says to Buffy that if you would do it all over again, would you let Dawn die? and then Buffy says yes… I dont remember actually the lines… but Buffy did turned her back against Dawn in season 7… maybe thats what ‘Joyce’ was trying to say…
