security overalls

Please note: This trivia was suggested by cardboardy. It has not been approved.

There are a number of times in the series where Buffy wears overalls. I have noticed that whenever she is wearing her overalls, she is vulnerable or despairing, and sort of hiding in them.
- Becoming (Part 2) (when Buffy’s on the run)
- Helpless (when she’s lost her power)
- Restless (in Giles’ dream sequence)

I’ve already read this on the site somewhere, I think it was called Sad overall, or something,

    2. somethingblue says:

I think she wore overalls in season 2’s Ted, after she thought she killed Ted and believed he was human. So, the theory that she wears them when she’s vulnerable is spot on.

    3. cardboardy says:

i looked around the site to see if i could find it b4 suggesting.. but it wouldnt be the first time i did this and STILL suggested something that was old news!!
but i think the overalls are important… and for some reason, when i see buffy in those overalls, no matter how TOTALLY stoopid they look, i always feel her pain!

    4. cardboardy says:

just checked ‘ted’ for overalls action and s’blue, you are a shining star!

    5. Abby M. says:

Oh yeah, Buffy defintely dresses how she feels and if she think she killed somenody, lets just say it is not going to be a goos fashion day!

    6. somethingblue says:

Thanks, Carboardy, you are the ingenious one who suggested this trivia and I had always remembered her in overalls, but never connected the sadness that ties in with them until you called it out!

    7. MagicBone says:

Overalls are good for when you’re sad. You can pull awkwardly on the straps and put your hands in various pockets and mess with buttons and stuff vulnerably and insecurely. And pick at the seams.

    8. beagle says:

I just watched Fear Itself. The S4 holloween ep. Buffy is definately not feeling good about herself. She dresses as little red riding hood.

    9. beagle says:

and the little dress thingie is like overalls with the wide straps and stuff.

    10. cardboardy says:

classic! i’ll have to get me some for my next big presentation. nobody will suspect a thing.
i thought of this trivia the other night cause of this moment:
me, my partner and a friend (who is a houseguest and therefore perfect fodder for brainwashy experimentation) were watching ‘helpless’ and partner says, ‘oh look its the vulnerability overalls!’ and i laugh loudly (cause we’ve joked about them before). and friend looks at us with this incredulous ‘you guys are just scary’ look. and that look can only mean one thing: trivia!

    11. MagicBone says:

You were in the pursuit of trivia. Trivial pursuit. And better than that: Buffy trivia!! Ahoy!

    12. cardboardy says:

trivial pursuit, now that’s just gold, m’boner.
so i guess we’re all trivia buffs in the overall trivial pursuit of buffy trivia.

    13. MagicBone says:

      Say that 5 times fast.

    14. somethingblue says:

I’m gonna get me some Buffy overalls!

    15. Jess says:

Sorry, I’ve been searching for this for a while as I knew it had been on the site. Turned out it got lost in the madness at the beginning of the year, but I’ve restored the original now. Sorry, cardboardy!

    16. cardboardy says:

just thought i’d add that the overalls occur in s2 school hard, too.
i mean they’re kinda used as painting overalls, but she’s under pressure from a lot of different directions, thus fitting the theme (barely)
