I think it’s funny that Tara says something like “Also, you can tell it’s not gonna have a happy ending when the main guy’s all bumpy.” This could fit either of Buffy’s relationships with her vampy boyfriends (bumpy ’round the forehead region), and also be a clue to her impending relationship with Spike, as she said “bumpy” and not the more obvious “humpy.”

Everything Tara says about Quasimodo in this scene applies to Spike. She says:
“No. See, it can’t — it can’t end like that ‘cause all of Quasimodo’s actions were selfishly motivated. He had no moral compass, no understanding of right. Everything he did he did out of love for a woman who’d never be able to love him back. Also, you can tell it’s not gonna have a happy ending when the main guy’s all bumpy.”
We’ve seen Spike help Buffy out and do the right thing for a while, but he doesn’t do it because he thinks it’s the right thing to do, he does it selfishly out of his love for Buffy, despite the fact she doesn’t love him back. And glumplum hit the nail on the head with the bumpy thing.

Wow! glumplum & Wynter, that’s a brilliant observation. I love(and look out for) Joss&Co’s obsession with metaphor, but this one I missed. Just fun.

That’s crazy. I never realized that. All of the times I’ve seen Crush, I never caught up on the metaphor. That’s weird though that this all is about Quasimodo but it relates to everything that will happen in the episode … or actually the season. And the next season. Go Joss. Mmmm hmmmm.
