[3.09-13.58] Anya’s necklace

Goof seen in: The Wish at 13.58

We know Anya’s necklace is her demon power centre. So why would she give it to Cordelia? In future episodes where she makes wishes reality (such as Selfless), she never gives the necklace away.

    1. Mullsen says:

I’ve wondered about this too. The only reason I can think is that Cordelia didn’t actually want to be making a wish (she certainly didn’t seem about to make one), and that the power of the necklace made her want to somehow.

    2. anniec says:

Maybe Anyanka was cocky enough, up to this point, to believe that she could put her power-necklace on a mortal and still get it back without trouble. The fact that she didn’t do it again in future episodes doesn’t indicate inconsistency–it indicates that she learned her lesson!

    3. Mel says:

It could also be that Anya was trying to gain Cordelia’s trust and friendship to co-erce her into making a wish and saying that she could have her necklace for luck was a way in doing this.

    4. Esual says:

Or, it could be that Joss just didnt think that Anya would be a regular on the show and so didnt think that far ahead considering the plot and continuity.

    5. slayed says:

The reason that Anya gave the amulet to Cordelia is that they needed something to keep the plot moving along.

If Giles had not found the amulet on Cordelia, then he would not have been able to tie Cordelia’s cryptic remarks back to Anya.

I *wish* they’d found another way because giving the amulet away does create inconsistencies. Either that or bother to explain it away later.
