Miss Kitty Fantastico was a black and white kitten belonging to Tara and Willow. The girls discussed getting a cat in New Moon Rising. She appeared in The Yoko Factor, Restless and Family then disappeared for three seasons. Her absence was finally explained in End of Days, when Dawn implied that Miss Kitty had died, “Xander, my crossbow is not out here. I told you, I don’t leave crossbows around all willy-nilly… Not since that time with Miss Kitty Fantastico.” |

The way I interpret it, it doesn’t sound like Dawn show Miss Kitty, but rather Miss Kitty had shot herself.
Dawn states: “I don’t leave crossbows around all willy-nilly, not since that time with Miss Kitty…” This would suggest that Miss Kitty was shot because someone left a crossbow sitting around unintended. If Dawn had shot her, she’d have probably said something to the effect of, “I don’t play around with crossbows…”
The fact that the crossbow was “left around all willy-nilly” means someone probably just carelessly left the weapon unattended and Miss Kitty sniffed around too close to it and shot it off herself. And thus, Dawn learned from this event not to leave weapons just lying about.

I never thought of that Kain..

I think it was definitely meant to imply that Dawn had accidentally shot Miss Kitty. We know from eps like Conversations with Dead People that Dawn likes to fool around with Buffy’s weapons. She even shoots a crossbow arrow into the wall of their house during that ep.
So, sorry to say, but I think Dawn is guilty of kittyicide.

i agree chimp, Dawns constant whining has taken its toll on me i’ll be happy to accuse her of anything, does that make me dawnist? :/

I agree Dawn is so annoying and i’m pretty sure that why the show lost ratings in season 5.
As for Miss Kitty… :’( my god i hate Dawn if she did murder the Kitty

The demise of Miss Kitty Fantastico is actually an assumption based on very little information. All the line says is that something happened with a crossbow left lying around (that Dawn was the one who left it is, itself, an assumption, albiet a reasonable one). It may mean anything from the end of Miss Kitty to Miss Kitty having used it as a litter box just prior to Buffy needing it for patroling. The greater likelihood (knowing how both cats and crossbows work) is that Miss Kitty, sniffing and whapping at it set it off causing damage and comic mayhem. Of course, we have not seen her in a while and, if she was around, they could have wrung great lumps of pathos out of a scene with her when Willow returns from England.

Well it’s a possible question for a future convention.
Intense Fan: Dawn, did you kill Miss Kitty Fantastico?? If so, why?? She was soooo cute!
Michelle T: Em…I’m not actually Dawn…so I don’t know…you’ll have to ask Joss about that…
Intense fan: I already have! He made some witty remark I didn’t understand. People laughed. I ran into the toilets and, like, cried for an hour. I LOVE YOU DAWN!!
Michelle T: Em..thanks…Can we have another question…PLEASE?!!

Intense fans at conventions are scary. Also - intense guests. James Marsters beware.

I think what might have happened was Joss just forgot about Miss Kitty (or didn’t want her in for some reason) and then just put in as a joke about the crossbow and then decided to reference it later. Seems like a ‘Joss’ thing to do.

I think it would have been funny if Missy Kitty had somehow been lost in Demon Kitten poker, maybe Spike or Clem would have taken her for to ante up?! Although I’m all for letting it go, as I had not even noticed Miss Kitty’s disappearance and/or the explanation of said demise.

I’ve always thought Miss Kitty either ranaway when Glory trashed the dorm, or else was crushed in the rubbble….
December 17th, 2005 at 8:34 am
Ahhh! Crushed Miss Kitty Fantastico!

I think if Dawn had killed the cat, we probably would’ve heard about it. And as a fervent kitty lover, I’m going to go with the “set it off, caused mayhem” interpretation of the line.

I just thought, Tara got Miss Kitty Fantastico in season 4. You would have thought that by this episode, she would have grown into a cat, but she seems exactly the same. I’m thinking there’s a mistake there somewhere.

maybe it was a magic cat, like peter pan, it never got old!! or maybe not!
December 28th, 2005 at 12:27 am
Maybe Tara put a spell on her to make her not age and she could keep her forever. That was short lived when little miss klepto shot her with a cross bow. :’( poor Miss Kitty Fantastico.

shame, if only it was a mystical death they could have summoned osyrus to bring her back. there could have been a miss kitty fantastico episode like the one with johnathon. erm…probably not though *ahem*

Hello all
After reading your thoughts on the demise of my namesake, I can confirm she is alive and kicking in the Old Cats’ Home in Chigwell.
:o)
February 13th, 2006 at 5:56 am
She made it clear that she left it lying around for the cat to get to and shoot itself, or so I thought.

Awww…the first evil as Miss Kitty Fantastico! I can picture her getting up on her hind legs, trying to be evil. I would act the same way Xander did with Gachnar: “Who’s a little fear demon, who’s a little fear demon?” She would be evil, but in a really cute way!
February 13th, 2006 at 6:37 am
Cats are evil to begin with, so it wouldn’t be a stretch.

Holy Crap, Abby M, That comment about the First as MKF just made me bust out laughing. That’s one hell of a mental image.

Awwwwww. Bad Dawnie (STOP BAGGING ON DAWN! She’s my favourite character!) I miss MKF!

Thanks deacon! Yeah, Dawn wasn’t a bad character, she just got annoying after a while but she was a good character. Her position and sense of feeling ignored is understandable.
