Adam confronts Spike in his crypt during the daytime. There’s lots of sunlight around, yet Spike doesn’t dust.

      This is kind of explained in the first season of Angel. Vampires are only affected by direct sunlight, allowing Spike to stay in his crypt during the day. The room is still illuminated, but the direct rays aren’t everywhere.
