[6.10-13.28] Amy and Rack

Goof seen in: Wrecked at 13.28

When Amy became a rat in Gingerbread she had only really dabbled in magic previously. When she is de-ratted in this episode she is a complete addict and introduces Willow to Rack (who she must have met when she was still in school). This seems to be an unlikely shift in Amy’s personality.

I believe in Gingerbread, Joyce mentions that Amy and Willow are “dabblers”, an assumption Willow desperately clings to.

However, Amy was already very familiar with black magicks as early as the second season: witness the teacher mind-control in Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered. In the same episode, she also maliciously turns Buffy into a rat and threatens Ms. Calendar.

Seems like Amy not only inherited her mom’s interest in witchcraft, but possibly her hubris as well.

has anyone wondered if Amy is definetly Amy and not still her mother? I know she threatens buffy before buffy imprisons her in the statue, showing that its amy’s mum not amy, but the boundaries between the two people were getting shaky (amy had flashes of what her mum was doing) and her mum had sufficient power to make amy say those things. anyway. just watch ‘the witch’ and see if you can be 100% sure who survives. because if amy’s mum did manage to remain in amy’s body then it would explain the shift in personality and magic. the innocence would have been an act to make people believe she was still amy while at school. but when shes done being a rat she might as well let her true magics and personality show. i really think amy might be her mum all along. sorry for writing this in such a long roundabout way.

No, Amy couldn’t be her mom because why would she switch bodies with a woman who was trapped in a statue? When Amy’s mom was banished into the statue, the only thing she could use were her eyes as you could hear her trying to speak but it sounded like her mouth was taped shut or something. So Amy’s mom wouldn’t have the ability to say a spell to switch bodies again and there’s no reason why Amy would want to, cause that would just suck. Maybe since Amy was a rat for so long, she began thinking about all of the things that she couldn’t do then and wanted to do when she turned back. She stopped being shy and stuff and maybe she met Rack after she turned back and met with other powerful witches and they told her about Rack’s place. And remember when Amy told Willow about how only a demon or a powerful witch could sense Rack’s place so maybe she just sensed the magicks and was drawn to the energy. If I was turned into a rat for 3 years, I would definately want to do all kinds of stuff that I had missed out on. Especially if I was a really powerful witch.

no i meant that they never switched bodies in the 1st place- ie gile’s spell didnt work at all and it has been amy in the statue all along and amy’s mum in amys body all the time. i really think that amy after deratting is very similar to amy’s mum’s personality.

Amy’s friends, such as Buffy and Willow, would have noticed in the ensuing two years (before she bacame a rat) if the body switching had not taken place, or so it would seem.
