Boca del Infierno

Sunnydale was called “Boca del Infierno” by the first Spanish settlers there. Roughly translated, it means ‘Hellmouth’. Giles told the Scoobies this information in The Harvest.

      Hi!
      I don’t think is roughly translated. I have spanish classes, and I think is very well translated. :)

    2. UnheardWeirdness says:

      It’s not roughly translated, I know spanish and Boca del Infierno is very well translates, Hell’s Mouth or Hell’sMouth would be the literal translation though.

    3. hailtothechimp says:

      Actually the literal translation would be “Mouth of the Hell”.
      Boca = Mouth
      de = of
      el = the
      Infierno = Hell

      “de and “el” get contracted in Spanish of course to create “del”. But since we don’t use the definite article (’the’) in English the way they do in Spanish, “Hell’s Mouth” or “Mouth of Hell” are both fairly good approximations.

      So Jess is right to caution that the translation “Hellmouth” is rough! Ease off guys…

      lol wait, if spandiards settled their how did the mayor build the town for deams to feast on

    5. BringTheNoise says:

      Presumably he built the ACTUAL town after the original settlers left/were driven out and their settlement torn down. A bit of stretch mind you.
